Lutenant fumbled, the pain rising like a thousand spikes through his spine.

If you had ever experienced that pain, you would be able to relate. The pain of having a handsome face, and an intelligence that paves the way for a bright future.

But you are nothing more than a fathom in people's imagination. Seemingly not to exist. The ones you loved lingering in the hands of others.

Nah, Lieutenant would have been better off if he had been treated like a nonexistent creature. He was a breeding den for bullies, even though he was already in college, he could not pass the day without a stomp in his stomach.

Someone pulling his hair and saying trashy things. He was the most popular celeb in school, also known as the trashy celebrity. Popular for being broke and having the poorest background for a school that was meant for rich people.

He had scaled through because of his will to become a great person. The will that drove him to apply for a scholarship eventually.

Sigh, but this spiky pain was a lot more different. It yelled at him right in the face, your end is near.

The one that mattered most had collapsed in his hands, diagnosed with kidney failure and she was not going to survey for a weak.

Ariel was the only one who stood by his side. And gave him a reason to live. He could not see her die, he would rather give his life in exchange and see her live instead.

He gave one of his healthy kidneys but then the deadly news came, his other kidney was failing.

"Are you okay?" His sick sister inquired, seeing how his face had turned pale, dripping with sweat.

"I'm fine." Biting his lower lips to subdue the pain that welled up throughout his body.

He could not let any of them mourn over him. Not even Ariel. He was going to enjoy the rest of the few days that he had with her, that was the only thing that he asked for.

"Are you sure?" Her voice was laced with worries as she coughed out.

Even with the pain, the Lieutenant was still able to force through a weak smile.

"I am fine." He responded.

"Then you should get going already. So the chicken soup doesn't get cold, with that, I am sure that Ariel is going to heal faster." She replied.

"I can't wait to see the both of you get married," Arizona said.

Lutenant smiled, knowing that her wish was not going to come through.

With his hands structured at his lower abdomen, he made his way to the hospital, his foot merely getting to the floor.

But at the hospital, she was not there, the doctor revealed that she had been discharged already.

Lutenant was confused.  From the last time that he saw her, she had merely healed properly.

He tried to call her but her contact was not going through. Then he called one of her friends.

"Which planet do you live on?" She mocked.

Even though Elsa despised the fact that her friend was dating the campus junk dumb, she could not help but admire her love for her.

"Everyone is headed to the campus runway, I am sure that you might see her there. That's if you search properly." She quickly cut off the phones.

Then the lieutenant signed, wishing he had money to get a cab. With one spike like a thousand stings running through his body, he gritted his teeth in pain.

But he didn't mind the pain. Seeing Ariel's face was going to be the greatest antidote.

He nosed through the see of Student, his eyes pairing around to see if he was going to notice Ariel somewhere in the crowd.

"Get your hands off me Stinky Lut." Numerous people strolled away as he got closer to their paths.

"Maybe being the school's dump wasn't so bad after all."

"I can't believe that Prince Michael is finally proposing to a girl." A group of girls gossiped as the Lieutenant walked by.

While the first girl jumped repeatedly into the air, the other girl beside her had her hands around her chest angrily.

"Why are you so happy when someone is stealing the school prince from our hands? Do you realize the prestige it will get us being in that position?" Scoff.

"At least I'm not that beautiful like you guys and I know I will never be able to compete if I were to." She kept on jubilating while the other girl hissed.

They got a glance at Lieutenant and soon burst out into laughter. "Another waste of sperm." They sprouted out.

"Or a walking corpse, in my opinion, he should be just dead already." He added. The lieutenant continued to walk, ignoring their statement, and his pain seemed to increase even more.

Micheal was the mayor's son and a popular playboy. Only God knows what they see in someone that changes girls like pieces of clothing.

Soon, a group of boys who seemed friends with Michael began to chant out words that flooded the center's stadium.

"Say yes Ariel! Say yes!"

"Say yes Ariel! Say yes!"

The words seemed to pull a string in the Lieutenant's head.

"ARIEL!" His heartbeat shot up.

Lutenant quickly let out a chuckle, pushing the thoughts off from his head.

"What are you even thinking Lut. How can Ariel cheat on you with someone else? I am sure that you owe are an apology for even daring to abor the thoughts in your mind."

"Even if she had the intentions, wouldn't she reconsider after you sacrificed one of your organs just to save her life?" Her inner subconsciousness is revealed.

Lutenant nodded his head unconsciously and continued with the search, making his way deeper into the circle.

Then, there was a sudden pause in the hall that even a teardrop could be held throughout the Arena.

"Yes." The lady announced, her voice pulling Lieutenant into the night clouds and the crowd roared in jubilation.

But their wild jubilations didn't penetrate hearings and he could hear only his voice.

"No! It can't be!" A stream of sweat flooded down from his face.

Lutenant pulled quickly through the crowd, the rate of his beating heart going faster until he got to the free circle with all the boys and the girls.

The sight of Ariel accepting the rings from the renowned school's playboy tore his heart into shreds.

The pain of the spikes was now nothing compared to the pain packed in his eyes, wanting to force themselves through...

"Ariel..." The lieutenant yelled his lungs out and the crowd paused.

Their once happy looks shifted into skin-ripping glares when they replaced their gazes

[ Is he intending to beg for money? ]

[ Such a pathetic loser ]

But all his world was directed at her.

"Tell me it's not true. Tell me that I am dreaming." His whole world came crumbling down right before him.

Michael snared, his anger gradually rising to its peak at the disturbance.

"So what if it's true?" Her cold glance broke up the rest of him. "I'm only doing what's best for him."

It was as though he had been pulled into a different world of its own. More spikes accompany the pain of a broken heart.

The voice of his already broken voice was a signal of his pain.

"But I thought at least you loved me."

"Love?" She scoffed.

"Just take a good look at yours. How long did you rank that I will be able to put up with that broken ass of yours?

I needed someone to get me clothes, expensive stuff. I needed someone to call my boyfriend, not an animal... I never said I needed a dirty pet.

Even Khole Meow won't be dragging the stage with you." She didn't reserve her cold words.

The pain that he felt in his stomach almost pulled him down to the floor but he clutched tightly to it, half bent to the floor as tears welled up in his eyes.

"After everything. After cleaning your feet, cooking your meals, going to the far lengths of paying your fees even though I have a sister in the hospital." He chuckled in bitter sorrow, the pain clouding his mind.

Have you ever been broken to the extent that it seemed you forgot how to express pain?

"And even after." His voice cracked. "Even after giving up my healthy kidney, this is what I get?" He chuckled.

Ariel's eyes farrowed.

"Stop being such a liar Lieutenant. Taking up credits for what you didn't do? How despicable and pathic of you."

"You never did any such thing for me so stop painting yourself as the good guy here already." She was highly irritated by his words.

However, she made her way to the front of the crowd, then raised her flute.“To a life of happiness, endless celebrations and every good thing in the world. Boss and personal assistant left the office building, walking stride by stride. Aurora, her phone in her hand, was trying to reach Carl. He was the one who had done the arrangements, and she would've helped out if she didn't have to go down to the Fredrickson's company and help Lutenant get the contract he was gushing over so much. She waited next to her old model Benz, waiting for Carl to pick up. When he didn't answer after the first ring, she turned to Lut, who was waiting for her and shrugged. “He hasn't picked?” “Yes. Makes me wonder what is wrong with him. Who makes plans and doesn't keep to his own part of the deal? If he knows how tired I am, he'll pick up.” Lut smiled. “Call him again.” His voice was calm, the exact opposite of what hers was. Nodding, she did just as he had requested. And to her shock, Carl picked up on the first ring. “Aurora!” He called her name as if he was out of breath.

  • Sealing the deal

The executive meeting hadn't gone well, or maybe someone had brought an offer larger than the amount he had proposed. He didn't know which one it was yet. “The executive meeting didn't end too well. The highest bidder plays a huge role, Lut. I'm afraid we chose someone else.” Lutenant smiled. He looked out of the window, forgetting what he had planned to say for an instant if things didn't go his way. “Lut? Are you still there?” “Yes sir. It's alright, Mr Fredrickson. I understand you perfectly. There are other companies in the industry. We'll have to look into it.” He glanced at his father, who raised an eyebrow, still smiling despite the fact that he had heard his son's answer and knew that the deal was lost. “Come on, Lut, I'm kidding! Did you even believe that I'll sell to someone else? You've been the highest bidder so far. The rest have all come in under hundred. And even if you weren't, I would've still sold to you.

  • Family friction

When Richard ended the call, his hands were trembling slightly and he felt lightheaded. When had Mr Johnson entered the room? Had he been listening to the entirety of his conversation with Hal? He wanted the earth to open up and swallow him. “Having problems at work?” He nodded, not knowing what else to say. “Yes, something like that.” Mr Johnson stood up, going to the window. He looked out of it, smiling at nothing in particular. When he turned to look at Richard, Richard noticed how furrowed his eyebrows were, and how he didn't even smile one bit, even though he had been smiling earlier. The smile had seemed to disappear into thin air. Something was wrong. “What kind of problems are you having at work, son? Are you aware that you're marrying my daughter, the only child I've ever had? Do you know that, Richard?” Richard swallowed hard. He wasn't scared of Mr Johnson, no, that was far from it.

  • Guilt by association

“Hundred million, Mr Fredrickson. I can't go higher.” Mr Fredrickson looked at members of his executive team. They all exchanged knowing glances which Lut knew he didn't understand. But he kept calm, watching the entire proceedings with his hand holding his flute. “Why don't we both sleep over it, Lut? My team and I will take your offer into consideration. Before anything, I want you to know that I've thought about leaving this company in good hands. And there are no other guaranteed good hands in this city apart from yours.” Lutenant nodded with a smile. “I understand you perfectly, Mr Fredrickson. I do.” “Now, there are still offers coming in, and we want to sell to the highest bidder, I'm afraid. At the same time, I want my legacy to live on even if this place doesn't belong to me anymore. You're the only one who can assure that.” “Oh come on, Mr Fredrickson, you flatter us way too much.” Mr Frederickson raised

“I hope you enjoyed your meal, Lutenant.” Lut nodded. At that point, he couldn't tell which kitchen was better. The consortium kitchen made good meals, but he had to admit that he had tasted one of the best pasta drenched in sauce he had ever eaten in his entire life. It was insanely good. “I did, Mr Fredrickson. I'll need a few days to decide if your kitchen is better than ours, though. But I have to admit, that pasta was amazing.” They were looking at the buildings, and Frederickson was pointing out the important parts that they needed to know. Aurora, walking next to him, held a notebook and a camera in her hand. She was taking pictures and writing at the same time. “How about you, Aurora? How was the food?” “I'm planning to ask the cooks to give me their recipe after this. That's to show you how good it was.” “Oh, good to hear. Lut, you've got a good one on your hands. Truly, Mr Fredrickson and his team were waiting for them in the parking lot. Aurora had done a lot of research, and because of that, she knew how he looked. But up close, he looked shorter, even, and his smile was warm. His eyes twinkled in happiness, as if he was overjoyed that his company was being sold. “Mr Lutenant! I've been expecting you.” The two men shook hands, while Aurora watched. They were basically gauging each other through the handshake, but Aurora was comfortable with it. She knew her boss could handle it. “And who is this behind you?” “That is Aurora Spencer, my personal assistant and the woman in charge of most of my reformation success in most companies. She's very good, I tell you.” “Well, let's see how good she's going to do here. Welcome, Aurora. Lutenant, this is my team. The executives in charge of running this place. It hasn't been easy, but they've done a good job. You have to acknowledge them.”
