"Your father told me you'd like to go into investment," Director Edward announced as the two drove back to the mansion after the emergency was dealt with. "What part of the business do you wish to do?"

"I really haven't given it much thought," Lut confessed. "All this is still new and strange to me. I'm still trying to wrap my head around my new reality."

Director Edward hummed knowingly, he stopped the car at the red light and looked towards Lut who was still looking outside. "You have enough time to think about it. But for the time being, why not follow me around?"

"Most of your father's business is managed by me, I can show you a way around the business for a few months before you make a decision on what to do," Edward suggested.

Lut turned to Edward, a flicker of curiosity in his eyes. "Is that even allowed? Won't it bring trouble to you if you bring me along with you?"

Edward chuckled, easing the car forward as the light turned green. "Of course. Your father entrusted me with muc

“You look like you didn’t sleep a wink.” Clara noted as she pulled open the car door for Lut, who was dressed in a fitted cream-coloured suit. His hair, styled perfectly to show his handsome face."I was too nervous to sleep," Lut confessed."There is nothing to be nervous about, Mr. Lut; you'll only be there to see how the board meeting goes. Besides, it's a casual meeting over breakfast." She explained as they both got into the car.Lut gave a nervous chuckle, adjusting his tie. "Casual for them, maybe. For me, it's like being thrown into a lion's den."Clara smirked slightly as she glanced at him. "You’ll be fine. Director Edward believes in you, and so should you. The board members might seem intimidating, but they’re just people. They’ll respect you if you present yourself confidently.""Easier said than done."As the car pulled up to the company headquarters, Lut felt his jaw hit the ground in awe. No matter how many times he had seen the magnificent buildings under his father's

“It was nice to see you again, Lut. Having you present in the meeting, I'm certain that you must have grabbed a thing or two.”Lut paused outside for a moment, enjoying the chilly night breeze. To him, the shock of being the son of a man who had such a vast estate and a company that was worth billions of dollars hadn't worn off.Even now, after he was told that he was going to handle a project that would have been given to a professional, anybody other than him who had little or no experience, he was still in awe of how fast his life had changed for the better.“Same here, director Edward. The challenge, everything about the company excites me, you know.”“ Oh, you bet,” Director Edward chipped in. Dressed in a tuxedo and Italian leather shoes, he definitely looked the part.“I can't tell you how excited I am that you are the one in charge of the fast food project. We've never done anything like this before. But the board members were impressed with you, so why not give it a try?”Ha

He had barely ended the call when the Porsche stopped at the gates of his father's estate. The gates lifted of its own accord, as if it recognized the car.His eyes widened, and he caught the eyes of Hubert, the driver, who saw his dilemma but refused to speak.“How did that happen?”Hubert adjusted uneasily before speaking.“The gate is one of the new models in the city. It has the ability to recognize all cars owned by Mr James. This is just one of the capabilities of the gate. It can resist forceful entry by raising an alarm that rings throughout the neighborhood and all the way to the station.”Lutenant nodded in awe. A few days ago, he had never passed through a gate that recognised faces. How quickly things could change for the better.“Incredible!”“Here we are, sir.” Before Lut could get out of the car, Hubert had done so, running to his door to open it for him. Smiling, Lut grabbed the file that had been given to him by director Edward before turning to Hubert. “You know th

As Lutenant left the house that he had come to call his own that morning, he felt overwhelmed by how fast things were moving for him. Last night after showing him the house, his father had handed him a car key, the keys jingling in his hand as he transferred the ownership of the Range Rover that had transported them to the house to him.He could barely find the words to thank his father after that.“This is too much..dad.”His father had smiled after he said that, the skin around his eyes crinkling as he did so.“It's not too much, Lut. For the past few years of your life, you've been battered by life, friends and even your peers. I've watched from the background, and to tell you the truth, you deserve everything that is happening to you now. Even more.”A few minutes later after his father left in an Uber, he stared at the house for close to five minutes, unable to move, unable to do anything at all.A few days ago, he had been ridiculed by the woman he loved most, her new found bo

“It looks highly promising, sir. Despite the fact that there is risk involved, the output at the end can erase any loss incurred from the risks.”Lutenant was impressed. It was exactly what he had thought about the project, but hearing it come from Aurora seemed to give him the confidence he needed to take the challenge head on.She was good, he had to admit.“That project was brought to me by director Edward yesterday, Aurora. And I consented to taking charge of it.”Aurora's eyebrow arched in surprise, and Lut knew why.He had only come to the company a few days ago, and he was already handling something so fragile. It was rare, but at the same time, it said a lot about the extent of his ability to adapt quickly.“The reason I arranged this meeting is because I was asked to choose my team, and you were the first person that came to mind. If I'm going to be in charge of this project, I want you to be my assistant.”Her eyebrows arched even higher, but Lut continued speaking without w

“You know that if this works out, your father will have a list of companies waiting for you to control, right?”They were on the road, in the company car, but this time around, it wasn't driven by Hubert. The driver was a stone faced bald man, whose nostrils seemed to flare anytime the car gathered speed.Lutenant shook his head in the negative, telling director Edward that he had never thought about it before.“I've never thought about it that way. I just saw this as a challenge, and wanted to see what I could do. I never knew that this is a stepping stone to another job?”“It's more than a stepping stone, Lut. With this project, you're going to go places that you've never dreamt of. I trust you. Selecting aurora made me know that you know what you're doing.”Lut shrugged before speaking.“Well, she was the first person that came to mind. I was extremely impressed by the way she carried herself the day we met. I couldn't resist the thought of having someone like that on my team.”A f

“You can't sell the place, Mr Edward. She doesn't love it.”“Who doesn't love it?” Lut asked, an eyebrow raised.“Mrs Claire, the owner. She has always wanted to go into fashion. I guess that's why she's selling it. But what about us? We love our jobs, Mr Edward. This place, it's like home to us. We live our entire lives here. Déjà vu is our home!”It was just a few words, but Lut could sense the pain and the venom in them. The manager loved the company, that was quite obvious.Edward nodded, composed and cool as ever. Even though Lut knew that in the hierarchy of the company he was practically a bigger figure than Edward was, he looked up to him.Not as a role model, but as one who knew what he was doing, the right steps to take, alongside years of experience. He wanted to watch how he was going to handle the existing problem.“First of all, Gus, I want to say I understand you perfectly. Sometimes, a business might be dear to one's heart. “Good evening, sir.”After the visit to Déjà Vu, Lut and director Edward had sat down to taste if the chicken and chips prepared by the fast food was reminiscent of the name.Indeed, it was.The chicken was well prepared, and so were the chips. He wanted to taste other meals as well, but director Edward had whispered into his ears along the line that he had a meeting in a few hours. And they had left the fast food that they came to buy without making enemies, but making a friend instead. From Déjà vu, they had returned to the consortium.Lut wanted some time alone, to look over the files, to think about his plans towards the taking over of the fast food he had just visited, and how he was going to perfect the improvement and the upgrading of the place. That was until Aurora had popped out of nowhere, her brilliant smile and her polite tone making him pause whatever thinking he was doing.“Aurora. “Good morning sir.” Hubert, his driver, greeted him with enthusiasm. He looked as if he had been waiting for him all the while. The car key was already in the ignition, and the man looked ready to peel the car into the road and begin driving at a speed that pleased him, which was Hubert's customary way of driving.Lutenant didn't care much about the way he was going to reach work that day. He preferred Hubert driving him because no matter how fast he drove, he was able to slow down before the police noticed that he was going past the speed limit. It was a fun thing to do.Hopefully, he never got caught because Lut knew how difficult it was getting the police to believe that he hadn't intended to drive past the speed limit.A few minutes later, he was out of the car as it had stopped in the garage of the consortium. Leaving the car, he made his way into the elevator, which took him directly to his office. As soon as he opened the door, he was hit by the strong scent of Aurora's perfum

Before Aurora got to work that morning, she was surprised to see the door open a few minutes after she had sent her best friend the text regarding her moving from the hotel back to the house.“Natalie? I didn't expect you so soon.”Her best friend looked as though life with Carl had its perks. She had a bag of groceries from the popular Macmillan store in one hand, and in another was a box of pizza.“I decided to jump in, arrange my things. I'll be going back to Carl's this evening. Did I tell you he is planning to get a place so that we can start life afresh? He's also planning something huge for my birthday. I don't know what it is yet, but I know that he has something planned.”Aurora didn't comment, knowing how difficult her best friend could be most times. Natalie and misinterpretations were a normal occurrence. The last thing she wanted was her best friend quarreling with her over something that was irrelevant.Such as Carl and his inability to stick to one relationship.“Well,

Where is he?”“There! There!”Richard was fast. He had run a lot back in highschool, and he hadn't forgotten how easy it was to forget everything and let his body glide. • Midnight rescue

Richard didn't know how to start. He didn't have an invite, he didn't know the owner of the party, and he was only there because he wanted to get his girlfriend, who he was certain was already drunk and take her home. The first man stared at him in irritation, his eyebrow arched.“I'm guessing you didn't hear me earlier, mister. If you don't have an invite, I'm afraid you can't come to the party.”Richard didn't know what to do, so he did the first thing that came to his mind. He pushed the first guard, the frown on his face huge, and began to make his way into the warehouse. The other man stopped him, pushing him backwards.“Are you out of your mind? I'm certain you don't want to get shot at, mister. And the only way to do that is to pick your sorry self and leave this place this instant.”Richard squared up, refusing to admit defeat.“Look, there's someone I need to see there immediately, and if she doesn't come out this minute, her life will be in danger.”The first guard scoffed.

Tapping the table, he grinned at her.“Well, you've got that right. My father talked to me earlier today, and he maintained that he needed my answer considering the list of companies he had given me to look into.”He watched Aurora nod, seemingly interested.“Well, he said Johnson fabrics and co is trying to sell. From my findings, the company is going for five hundred million dollars, and while that's too much, I can see the advantages of the buy. The forecast considering the lifespan of the business isn't good, but with enough work and effort, I believe we can turn it around.”She shrugged, her beer in one hand, one leg crossed over the other. She looked like something out of a picture, as though she wasn't real, but a model in far away Europe.“Well, you sound as if you've already made your choice, Lut.”He rolled his eyes, sipping the vodka slowly now. The vodka was starting to get to him, the bitterness and the tipsy feeling that was settling like a blanket. If he was going to be

“Well, that brings our outing today to an end. Mr Cleveland is caught up in traffic and sadly won't be able to make it. We'll have to push the meeting to tomorrow.”Richard barely heard a word of what Mr Johnson had said. His mind was focused solely on Ariel, and the fact that she had just ended the call on him without even waiting to hear him out.“Richard?”“Yes sir, I understand. And I've heard you.”“That's besides the point. Will you be available tomorrow? I have a strong feeling that Mr Cleveland is going to be our buyer. Are you busy tomorrow? Classes or anything of that nature?”Richard shook his head in reply. He had a bunch of classes the next day, but he wasn't going to go. First things first, he had to stop joking with the woman who also served as his next source of livelihood. If there was anything he had to do at that moment,it was to make sure that Ariel was okay, and that she wasn't seeing someone else.Seeing someone else would serve as the fatal blow. It would eventu

Dylan's elder brother has been arrested. He was on his way out of the state when he was caught by police officers. It's not looking too good for them now. With the phone evidence, the attack on you and the hired killers arrested, they've made this an easy case for us without even knowing it.”She nodded, not knowing exactly how to feel.Sometimes, she felt happy because she was certain that she wasn't the only woman who had gone through harassment in that office, but she was also afraid because she didn't want all the unnecessary attention and publicity on her once quiet life.“Well, you'll have to appear in court by next week, Aurora. We're letting a few older workers go, so there must be someone going through those applications on a daily basis. Aurora is still in her recovery phase, so Lut here said he's working in her place, and when she comes back, she'll owe him hours.”Mr James nodded before sitting.“That's good. Excellent work from you both. I've been trying to call you, Lut. The police have just arrested Dylan Rick's older brother. He was on his way to Seattle, but they managed to apprehend him before he got on the plane.”Lutenant smiled in spite of himself. It was good news. Each and everybody that was involved in making Aurora's life a living hell deserved what was coming to them.“However, the company's legal team is working on releasing them on bail, and the case begins next week. I'll have to cancel all my meetings, because I want to be there to see them go down. T
