“You like her, Lut. There's no harm in admitting it.”

If there was anything Lut loved about the conversation that they were having, it was the fact that she had stopped referring to him as a lord. She had been his sister in his former life, and he wanted her to remain so.

He wasn't buying the name and the title calling.

“Who wouldn't like her? She's an excellent worker. Pays attention to detail, knows where and when to be. She's one of those people that you leave your problems to and know that they'll solve it without problems. That's Aurora.”

Mia shrugged. She ate, then patted her hair.

“Do you need help picking out what to wear? Or taking you to a better barbershop?”

Lut stared at her, surprised.

“Are you saying my barber isn't good enough?”

“Well, some are better than others. He's good, yes, but I know a guy that can do better, even slightly. Dress up, and I'll take you there. You'll be ready before six thirty.”

When she left the dining room, Lut found himself suddenly conscious of

The last thing Aurora wanted to talk about on the date was work. “Well, I believe it's going to be successful. You turn literally everything you touch to gold.”He laughed before continuing.“Yes, yes. But I want to let you know that no matter how far the project is, you're going to be the team leader. Even if it is on a different continent.”“Thank you.” She said, doing nothing to stifle the laughter that shot out of her system. The exterior of Bite and Brew was lit with lights that guided anybody coming from the outside into the parking lot. As Lut parked, Aurora found herself comparing the sizes of Bite and Brew to Déjà Vu.Bite and Brew was slightly bigger, and that was because there was only a single building in the premises. And yes, she muttered to herself, extremely satisfied, her designs were way better. She didn't want to say it out loud, but she took great pride in seeing the differences between the two buildings.“Good evening sir. Good evening ma. Welcome to Bite and Br

“Does this mean I have the right to say anything during this meal without my job being at stake?”Staring at her brilliant smile, Lut only wanted to tell her that as long as she looked so good, she could ask him anything and get away with it.She was beautiful. Even if she hadn't accepted his invitation to go out with him on a dinner date, he was certain that he was going to continue asking her. That was how smitten he was by her.“Yes, your job isn't at stake, miss Aurora.”She laughed, eating the shrimp cocktail that they had chosen as an appetizer. He wasn't particularly hungry, but he wanted to eat to impress her. He didn't want her to feel left out or anything. “Well, I've always wanted to ask. How come you say you never knew that Mr James was your father until recently? I find that very awkward. Every man with a rich fatter surely knows who his father is. You're not any different.”He smiled. He liked Aurora and the energy she gave, but he wasn't sure if he was ready to give o

“We're selling the company.”Ariel stared at her father, her eyes widening. He was doing what? That company was the reason she had always put in a lot of effort at school. That company was one of the reasons she had loved her father even though she knew that he was somewhat selfish and self centered. It made her believe that he always wanted to make the life of his family better, to the extent that people around him suffered. And now he wanted to sell the company? What was going to be her inheritance? Why now, when she was ready to get married? When her father had called her from the ranch while she had been checking out the horses and the other farm animals with Richard, she had expected him to say something about the wedding. But this piece of news was different. She hadn't expected it at all.And staring at her mother who was focused on the lemonade she was making without saying a word, she wanted to scream out loud.“Sell the company? When she turned, he waited until she was at her door. She waved, then entered her apartment, the door slamming shut. He waited by the sidewalk for a few minutes, staring at her closed door, wondering if it was going to be too fast if he just went to her door, knocked and then expressed how he felt towards her, and how he had tried to control himself throughout the entire night. But at the same time, he also reminded himself that he was one of the executives in the company where he worked, and he didn't want to do anything that would tarnish his image. He was going to wait until he was sure. Yes, he wanted to wait. Nodding to himself and hoping that he had made the right decision, he drove past the sidewalk and out of her neighborhood, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly. * Aurora waited until his car left the sidewalk before she could breathe properly. To Lut, a whole lot meant having to do everything to impress his father who had given him the opportunity to be where he was. But he wasn't sure he wanted to tell that to Aurora yet. “All I've done is make Déjà Vu fast food look good. I have other things to do apart from that. There are other companies to conquer, other conquests to set my sights onto.” Aurora nodded, sipping the champagne. “Ready to go?” “Well, I have to resume tomorrow, isn't that right?” In truth, Lut didn't want the night to end. He had a good time. From being with Aurora to knowing things about her, he wasn't sure that he had ever gotten happy talking to another woman since Ariel. And if there was anything he wanted, it was to put Ariel behind him. He wanted to move on. “I can give you the day off, you know.” Aurora didn't let him finish before she burst out laughing. “No, Lut. Preferential treatment isn't good f

She squealed happily, and he tried his best to resist the urge to tell her to shut it.“I can come with you, yeah? Let me find something to wear.”He shook his head firmly.“No, Ariel. This is strictly boys. Like a boy's night out. One of them is marrying, and we get to have a bit of fun on the bachelor's nights out. I might not come back to the house.”The stare she shot him made him irritated, but he did an awesome job of not showing it.“A bachelors night out, huh? You were really going to go to one of those things, Richard?”He shrugged, taking another sip of the lemonade.“Yes? I was going to go. Did you make this?” He asked, staring at the glass of lemonade. He was asking because while Ariel's mother was an excellent cook, she had never thought it wise to also acquire a bit of her mother's skills. The lazy brat that she was, she preferred to be fed and clothed, to have everything done for her.He could swear that she hadn't made the lemonade he had just consumed.“No, I didn't.

She had fallen asleep, and Natalie's whiny tone and voice had managed to knock the sleep out of her eyes and her system.Looking at Natalie with eyes that screamed care and affection, she touched her best friend's hand.“You're in Greenroom hospital. The emergency ward. You were shot.”Looking around, Natalie's eyes widened as she recognized that indeed, she was in the hospital. Pouting, she stared at Aurora, as if she had just remembered that they weren't on talking terms.“How long have I been out?”Aurora looked away, aching for a drink. She was tired, dehydrated, and missed her bed. After spending the night with Lut, a night filled with excitement and mixed feelings, she had wanted to end it in bed.But her best friend who she had quarreled with a few days ago had gotten herself in another mess, and once again, it was up to her to clean it up.“I can't say. He was a heavy thinker, and most nights, you would find him in the backyard, a cigarette in between his lips, looking up at the sky or typing furiously on his laptop keyboard. It made him see that the man was just like any other man, and wasn't invisible in any way.“Oh, okay. And you're going to this party? You know you will get married to my daughter soon, right?”He rarely smiled, but tonight he did. He seemed lighter, happier, as though a huge burden had been lifted off his shoulders. It made Richard wonder if there was something happening in the family or the company that he didn't know about.Richard laughed, slipping on his jacket. He glanced at Ariel, who was helping her mother set the table.“Are you sure you won't stay for dinner? You've not eaten anything reasonable since morning.”He grinned at Ariel, going over to her and kissing her fully on the lips. His hand wrapped her behind in a squeeze, and she swatted at his hand with the slightest of frowns.“Stop it, Richard..”

Gosh, she had missed him so badly.“What time do I expect you back?”“Going to another party already, huh? You can't go without me this time, I assure you.”She rolled her eyes, punching him playfully across the shoulder.“No. I'll be helping mum to cook today. Mum says she'll love to have the anniversary dinner in the house, a specially prepared meal.”She had said a lot, but in actuality, all she wanted was him in her cold bed before she slept off.“Good. “Well, I'm sorry. I wasn't myself, and I'm certain we both know why.”Ariel's answer wasn't the best because she knew she was at fault, but she didn't care if the man she was about to marry had fought another man for her sake. He had put her in that position. “Good morning sir.” Hubert, his driver, greeted him with enthusiasm. He looked as if he had been waiting for him all the while. He preferred Hubert driving him because no matter how fast he drove, he was able to slow down before the police noticed that he was going past the speed limit. It was a fun thing to do.Hopefully, he never got caught because Lut knew how difficult it was getting the police to believe that he hadn't intended to drive past the speed limit.A few minutes later, he was out of the car as it had stopped in the garage of the consortium. • A befitting welcome

Before Aurora got to work that morning, she was surprised to see the door open a few minutes after she had sent her best friend the text regarding her moving from the hotel back to the house.“Natalie? I didn't expect you so soon.”Her best friend looked as though life with Carl had its perks. She had a bag of groceries from the popular Macmillan store in one hand, and in another was a box of pizza.“I decided to jump in, arrange my things. I'll be going back to Carl's this evening. Did I tell you he is planning to get a place so that we can start life afresh? He's also planning something huge for my birthday. I don't know what it is yet, but I know that he has something planned.”Aurora didn't comment, knowing how difficult her best friend could be most times. Natalie and misinterpretations were a normal occurrence. The last thing she wanted was her best friend quarreling with her over something that was irrelevant.Such as Carl and his inability to stick to one relationship.“Well,

  • Midnight rescue

Richard didn't know how to start. He didn't have an invite, he didn't know the owner of the party, and he was only there because he wanted to get his girlfriend, who he was certain was already drunk and take her home. The first man stared at him in irritation, his eyebrow arched.“I'm guessing you didn't hear me earlier, mister. If you don't have an invite, I'm afraid you can't come to the party.”Richard didn't know what to do, so he did the first thing that came to his mind. He pushed the first guard, the frown on his face huge, and began to make his way into the warehouse. The other man stopped him, pushing him backwards.“Are you out of your mind? I'm certain you don't want to get shot at, mister. And the only way to do that is to pick your sorry self and leave this place this instant.”Richard squared up, refusing to admit defeat.“Look, there's someone I need to see there immediately, and if she doesn't come out this minute, her life will be in danger.”The first guard scoffed.

Tapping the table, he grinned at her.“Well, you've got that right. My father talked to me earlier today, and he maintained that he needed my answer considering the list of companies he had given me to look into.”He watched Aurora nod, seemingly interested.“Well, he said Johnson fabrics and co is trying to sell. From my findings, the company is going for five hundred million dollars, and while that's too much, I can see the advantages of the buy. The forecast considering the lifespan of the business isn't good, but with enough work and effort, I believe we can turn it around.”She shrugged, her beer in one hand, one leg crossed over the other. She looked like something out of a picture, as though she wasn't real, but a model in far away Europe.“Well, you sound as if you've already made your choice, Lut.”He rolled his eyes, sipping the vodka slowly now. The vodka was starting to get to him, the bitterness and the tipsy feeling that was settling like a blanket. If he was going to be

“Well, that brings our outing today to an end. Mr Cleveland is caught up in traffic and sadly won't be able to make it. We'll have to push the meeting to tomorrow.”Richard barely heard a word of what Mr Johnson had said. His mind was focused solely on Ariel, and the fact that she had just ended the call on him without even waiting to hear him out.“Richard?”“Yes sir, I understand. And I've heard you.”“That's besides the point. Will you be available tomorrow? I have a strong feeling that Mr Cleveland is going to be our buyer. Are you busy tomorrow? Classes or anything of that nature?”Richard shook his head in reply. He had a bunch of classes the next day, but he wasn't going to go. First things first, he had to stop joking with the woman who also served as his next source of livelihood. If there was anything he had to do at that moment,it was to make sure that Ariel was okay, and that she wasn't seeing someone else.Seeing someone else would serve as the fatal blow. It would eventu

That shows you're not the lazy brat I always thought you to be.”He laughed, and tapping his steering wheel with his thumb, he began to speak again, eyes on the road.“Guess what? Dylan's elder brother has been arrested. He was on his way out of the state when he was caught by police officers. It's not looking too good for them now. With the phone evidence, the attack on you and the hired killers arrested, they've made this an easy case for us without even knowing it.”She nodded, not knowing exactly how to feel.Sometimes, she felt happy because she was certain that she wasn't the only woman who had gone through harassment in that office, but she was also afraid because she didn't want all the unnecessary attention and publicity on her once quiet life.“Well, you'll have to appear in court by next week, Aurora.
