Chapter 1(Family)

The cold breeze swept across his face as his legs were too heavy to move. There were tears in his eyes as he left the court.

He was agonized and devastated, glued to where he stood. Obviously, anyone could notice that with the way he behaved.

Everyone who passed by looked down on him with disdain, while some had pity in their heart for the longing young man.

The pen which he had used to sign the papers was still in his hand, and his eyes kept staring at a little girl who was being taken away by a young lady.

The child cried as the young lady took her away from her father. Her parents had just gotten their divorce finalized, and her mother was taking full responsibility for her wellbeing now.

The last word he asked his wife before she took her leave was;

“Is it because I am poor?”

Who had said money couldn't buy happiness?

The world was defined by money itself.

Separating from his family who had thought would support him caused his heart to throb with pains.

They all left him, and now he was a complete loner. Perhaps, he and the woman he got married to were young and naive, eager to start a family together at a young age.

Despite financial crises, he had tried to be a loving husband and father to the two most important people in his life.

His wife changed all of a sudden, always nagging and cussing that why couldn't be like other men who worked hard to become wealthy.

Really? Does she think he was happy jobless? Every business he ventured into collapses. Possibly luck was far away from him. Nevertheless, she was meant to be his biggest support if she truly loves him.

His precious daughter was his only encouragement as she always wore a smile on her face, not minding the situation at hand.

She might not have the best school, money, or feed well, but she had the best father in the world.

The child didn't mind if he never brings her the best present as other parents does for their kids, but he always put a smile on her face.

However, lately, her mother began to fill her tender heart with hateful words against her father. In spite of those slander she says about him, her father was still a god in her eyes.

It breaks her heart to see her father watch her mother take her away. Why wasn't he stopping her and just staring?

The little girl had wished and prayed to God to stop the divorce. She had little knowledge of what a divorce was, but knew it wasn't something good. However, those wish of hers wasn't granted.

Gone were those days when motivational quotes kept him striving. Gone were the happy days, how would he survive with his family?

What was going to become their fate?

His wife didn't even say her farewells to him, and just stormed out of the court as though she was excited that they were separating.

She claims their daughter deserves a better life than leaving in rags and poverty.

From her explanation, he felt she had found someone else, quite better than he was and the only way to unite with that person was to spilled up just so it wouldn't be term as cheating on him.

“I wish you're happy” he muttered and strides away from that place. His sad eyes were clouded by tears as every step he took out of the court brought back sad and beautiful memories.

He remembers when he fills his wife's head with imaginations of building a big mansion with numerous rooms for their kids and living happily ever after. They made wishes to the stars as though it works.

Those were just mere fantasy, and love was solely a fiction. Every marriage had its difficult time, but his was leading him to his early grave.

The people he strives hard for were gone, and so he saw no need to live anymore.

It was getting colder as the heavy cloud was ready to pour down its blessings on earth. For someone like this young man, the rain was a curse.

He didn't mind if he would be soaked in it and just ventured away. This young man had no idea of where he was going because his mind was blank.

His legs would rather not lead him home because it was now a house. He hated himself for every tragedy that befalls him.

The rain had begun to fall now, and he was getting drained in it. His eyes watched people running to various places to take shelter. They took note of beautiful umbrellas that filled the street he passed on.

He had one in his hand, but wasn't making use of it. This young man was one who easily catches a cold. However, he barely takes care of his health as all he was concerned about was family.

He sneezed and glanced at the sky which poured down water on him and then began to cry as a child. This young man couldn't hold it anymore. It was like though his chest should explode from grief.

If it were a dream, he desired to wake up, but it was reality knocking at the door. He was still in tears when someone mistakenly brushed pass his shoulder and something fell off this person.

This person had a dark coat on and was hurrying up, perhaps to avoid the lashes of the rain.

It was a purse, and so he picked it up and hasten to hand it over to whosoever it was. He couldn't tell the gender of this person because an umbrella covered him or her.

“Hello…excuse me” he called running after the person, but this stranger wasn't stopping, rather it's pace became faster. Howbeit, he noted that there was something crook about the way this person's pace was.

This young man kept pacing after the stranger without realizing it, and the path he took was quite isolated.

He shouldn't have picked the purse in the first place and would have just abandoned it, pretended like he didn't see it and just walk away.

However, who knows if what was inside that purse was of a great importance. The young man realized that he couldn't keep up to this stranger's pace and gave up trying to reach him or her.

Besides, he still had a heavy yoke on his chest over what had happened earlier. He glanced at the purse and intended to flip it away, when the person suddenly turned and said;

“Did you call for me?”
