Chapter 4(Brian in wonderland)

Magical music played as whispers and echoes filled the whole place. His ears tingled at the sound of horses whinnying.

His eyes fluttered gently but didn't open them. His mouth let out a yawn due to tiredness and weakness. He rolled to and fro, feeling comfortable where he laid.

If he could recall, he had collapsed due to poisoning and perhaps his neighbors must have taken him to the clinic.

His subconsciously opened his eyes and jerked up from where he laid. Shockingly, he found himself in a vast field of sunflowers that were tossed by the wind.

He must have been in a dream! He closed his eyes and got them opened again, but he was still at the same spot.

The puzzled man attempted to rise from where he laid. He felt a spinning headache but managed to stand. His eyes squinted that the place he was, still confused.

“Find him dead or alive!” A voice thundered from afar. The hoofs of horses drew closer, the confused man stood wondering what was taking place before him.

Roars and swishing of swords made him flinch where he stood, yet he wasn't moving.

He needed to get an understanding of what was going on. Brian tried to recall what had happened before he found himself her.

Earlier, while he fell unconscious, he had seen himself swimming in a vast ocean of stars. There were different doors, he was bemused by what was going on but then realized something like shadows were tailing on him.

He presumed if he was in the afterlife, the shadows encircled him and whispered to him to pick a door before luck runs down on him.

Brian hesitated and intended to speak. Howbeit, he became mute and his tongue heavy to move.

“Hurry! Now!” The shadow chorused in an enchanting voice, and lightening struck around him.

His hands reached for the closet door, and he struggled to get it open. When he opened it, he swirled inside and found himself falling in an endless pit.

He had thought death was greeting but only to find himself in the field bewilder by what was going on.

Brian jerked back to reality when a husky voice muttered;

“Great wizard, the king wishes to see you”

Brian pointed himself and then narrowed his eyes.

“Wizard?”

“Yes noble one, we promise not to harm you if you with us” the same voice announced.

Brian studied the man who wore a helmet that had horns. His face was almost invisible because of the mask he wore.

His structure looked mighty and seem molded from a different cast, as he had an androgynous look uncommon to most people.

Lacquered and enameled by the ray from the lantern, he radiated energy and brio. His mountain peak cheekbones appeared chiseled into shape by a master craftsman.

This mighty man of valor climbed down from the horse and strides towards where the terrified man stood.

He possessed a latent, leonine power and walked with purpose and authority.

His eyes took note of the men on their horses, they were dressed like the medieval times and had helmets on.

They were 20 in numbers and terrifying in looks that anyone could flinch at the sight of them. Only that their faces weren't visible.

From his speculations, they were barbarians or perhaps warriors, but how did he get to such a place.

Could he be in hell because he remembers falling vividly in an endless pit when he opened the door in his dreams.

“I'm going to close my eyes and pretend not to see this…” He paused, and close his eyes, intending to wake up from his nightmare.

The devil can't take him now, he didn't take the poison, so how would he have died? There was a misunderstanding somewhere.

The man who had stepped now from his horse suddenly unsheathed his voice, and it made Brian whimper.

Were they going to behead him ? He was void of thoughts. Recently, he had been thinking of death, and now he was going to face one.

Why were his legs not even moving! At least they could have tried running to safe him.

“Please, don't kill me… argh!!!” He panicked and shut his eyes in fear.

He was meant to feel pain, but then realization struck him when he got his eyes opened only to realize that the men on horses had climbed down, and gotten on their knees for him.

They were kneeling before him with their heads bow, and their swords placed beside them.

“Please, great wizard safe our lands, we have journey far and near to find you, do not turn your back on us” the leader cried, and the rest men chorused along with him.

The petrified Brian was speechless as the questions he tried asking weren't coming out. He was going ballistic as his head spin. Something was wrong somewhere. He was certainly hallucinating, perhaps the tragedy of his life was now playing a trick on him that he was imagining irrelevant things.

He needed to clear up the confusion and also ask these men for directions on how to get out of here. Brian had a lot to do with his life, and winning his wife and child back was his priority.

While he sank into that horrible pit, the happy memories of his family flooded his brains. He wasn't going to give up on life anymore, rather, he was going to fight and win them back.

He was going to prove to all those who mocked him that something good was going to come out of him.

Right now, it wasn't time to let fear lurk inside to find a way out of this unknown land or wherever he was.

The men who still had their heads lowered were waiting for his reply and he said;

“I'm not the one you're looking for”

The leader widened his eyes and raised his head. He seems astonished by what this man said. Were they wrong about the great man they seek for many days?

His soft gaze on Brian suddenly darken, he stood with rage. This mighty man unexpectedly declared;

“Then we shall behead you”
