The shadow man
"Today, $1,200,000 is deducted from your dashboard for yesterday. If you refuse today, it's $500,000 per hour," a notification flashes on Ethan's screen.

He pays it no mind, heading to the restroom to splash water on his face.

The system's warning persists, "If you continue like this before the contracted days with the system, you will lose all your money at this rate."

"So, you're telling me I should betray who I love for your money? If you want it all, take it. Let me be poor. I don't care," Ethan snaps back.

"Then, so be it," the system responds.

Ethan dresses in a simple blue top and jeans, waiting for the people he has invited. The event planner for his wedding arrives, holding out an elegantly designed invitation card.

"Here it is," she says, extending the IV card to him. "I made more, just in case."

"Thanks, but I only need seven of them," he replies, his voice tense.

The door knocks, and Ethan assumes it's the person he's waiting for. However, it's Ariana.
