“Richard, you…”

Andrew exhaled deeply, the sigh slipping out like a slow leak of resignation. With a heaviness in his gait, he turned and walked back into the courtyard, saying nothing more.

Amelia remained where she stood, rooted to the spot, her brows slightly furrowed in confusion.

Something didn’t feel right.

To her, Richard had never been the type to act out of pride or recklessness. And yet… his response tonight had been so far from his usual demeanor that she struggled to understand it. It wasn’t just firm—it was distant. Unshakable.

And maybe… a little cold.

Perhaps it was that stark shift that disappointed her most. Because if there was one thing she knew, it was that once Richard made up his mind, no amount of reasoning or emotion could sway him.

That was what made him reliable… and, at times like this, frustrating.

So, when the others drifted away from the courtyard, Amelia chose not to speak to him at all.

The rest of the Andrews family, meanwhile, were visibly displeased.

Rubin is Grandpa Gabriel’s eldest grandson,” Amelia replied coolly, her voice steady but distant.A flicker of something unreadable passed through her eyes—quick, but unmistakable.Richard caught it. “What’s wrong?” he asked, puzzled.“It’s… it’s nothing,” she said, shaking her head lightly, though her eyes lingered in the direction Rubin had gone. Before Richard could press further, Angela and Vivian approached, lowering their voices.“Rubin isn’t just anyone,” Vivian murmured.Richard raised an eyebrow. “How so?”Angela glanced around before replying. “The Andrews family is prosperous, sure. But nearly everyone on Grandpa Andrew’s side—and even his brothers’—are in business. Very few of them pursue anything outside of that. And those who try to enter politics or the military usually don’t go far.”Vivian nodded. “But Rubin

“Have we met before?” Richard's voice was quiet, but firm. There was a slight furrow in his brow, the kind that formed only when something truly didn’t make sense. His body was still, but his eyes—sharp, observant—were already assessing Lewis with quiet calculation. Lewis, standing with the confident posture of a man used to being in control, smiled disarmingly. “We haven’t. But James is a good friend of mine. I heard you’d be here tonight, so I thought… why not come say hello?” Richard’s expression shifted slightly. Not disbelief. Just wariness. He tilted his head, eyes narrowing. “Mr. James?” Lewis gave a small nod, and this time his voice dropped low—intimate, almost reverent. “Yes… Mr. James.” It was the way he said it—like the name carried weight. Like it was meant to unlock something between them. And it did. The look on Richard’s face changed. Barely. But enough. Lewis wasn’t a subordinate of James. Not an employee. He wasn’t here for Andrew at all. He had come for Rich

“This is the Mr. Richard you’re talking about?” Lewis didn’t even blink. “That’s correct. Now stop interrupting.” Then, astonishingly, Lewis reached out and gave Johnny a light shove away. The gesture wasn’t aggressive. Just disrespectful. Johnny stood there for a moment, stunned into silence. Then he turned to go, unsure of how to respond without escalating the situation in full view of guests. But he didn’t get far. Because another voice—completely unexpected—rang out behind him. “Mr. Richard! I’ve been looking for you!” The crowd parted slightly as a man in a well-cut brown suit rushed forward, breathing heavily, eyes bright with recognition. Johnny turned, dumbfounded. “Joshua Wallace?” He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. The general manager of Nex Investment Company—one of the most influential figures in the local business sphere—was running toward Richard like an excited schoolboy. And Nex had no known ties to the Andrews family. He wasn’t here for Andrew. He wa

“Mr. Andrew, it’s only proper for a junior like me to show respect on such a meaningful day.”Joshua Wallace’s tone was polished, courteous, yet full of conviction. As he spoke, he gestured subtly to his driver, who immediately stepped forward and placed an elegant gift box in his hands.Joshua took it carefully, almost ceremoniously, and offered it to Andrew with both palms open, eyes lowered in quiet reverence.Andrew, caught entirely off guard, took a small half-step back.“Mr. Joshua… what is the meaning of this?” he asked, voice uneasy. “Your presence alone honors me more than enough. I truly—this is too much.”Andrew didn’t dare accept it. Not from him.Joshua Wallace was younger, yes—but in status? In power? In reputation? He eclipsed Andrew like a storm cloud over a dying candle. The Andrews family had influence in name and lineage, but Joshua represented real-world capital—one of the wealthiest, most elusive players in the business sphere. And yet here he was. Smiling gently.

Now that the gift box had been placed in Andrew’s hands and the eyes of nearly everyone in Symphony Studio were locked on him, a deep sense of dread began to gnaw at the pit of his stomach. What if this is something cheap? Something ordinary? Something from a sidewalk vendor? If he opened the box and the contents were unimpressive—or worse, insulting—he would be humiliated in front of the most prominent figures in his circle. His pride, his reputation, and his control over the event would all collapse at once.Someone from the crowd called out, with a tone dipped in mock-enthusiasm: “Come on, Mr. Sean, the CEO of Nex Investment Company is a real powerhouse. I’m sure his gift won’t disappoint! Let’s open it and admire his generosity!”More voices chimed in after that—some eager, some curious, but most of them carried a smirk. It wasn’t celebration—it was bloodlust.Brooklyn and Gabriel exchanged tired, knowing glances. The group fueling the commotion weren’t just curious bystanders—they
