“If you hate me, you can look away,” Vivian said, her voice laced with a rare anger. The words came out colder than she had intended, her usual calm demeanor slipping for just a moment. She turned to Amelia and Angela, her gaze softening as she added, “Amelia, Angela, let’s go.”

Vivian made a move to leave, but before she could turn around, she heard Sandra’s voice call after her.

“Vivian, wait!”

Vivian stopped mid-step, her body stiffening, before she turned slowly to face Sandra. The calm exterior she usually wore was now replaced by an edge of ice. “Yes?” she asked, her voice steady, but there was an undercurrent of tension in it.

Sandra, her tone lacking any warmth, spoke up, her words carrying a certain smugness. “Vivian, I remember you as a prodigy at Symphony Studio. Everyone who saw you play would praise you. Whatever competition it was, you were always in first place, and I was always second. That always made me feel uncomfortable.”

At Sandra’s words, Vivian’s eyes flashed wit

“Vivian, I remember you were the best at ‘When a Man Loves a Woman’ back then. Let my hobby compete with you on that song. What do you think?” Sandra’s voice was laced with a hint of smugness, as though she had already won the moment she uttered the challenge.Vivian, usually composed, let out a soft sigh, though it was tinged with indifference. She gave Sandra a brief, cold look before responding. “Sure,” she said simply, without hesitation.Morris, on the other hand, observed quietly, but a slight shift in his expression revealed that he wasn’t as eager as Sandra. "When a Man Loves a Woman" was a well-known piece, but compared to the other more intricate works of piano literature, it was considered relatively simple. The melody, while beautiful, lacked the complexity of some of the other famous piano pieces. Yet, the ending could prove challenging for someone who hadn’t played it in a while.Vivian’s eyes darkened slightly as she thought about it. It wasn’t the type of piece she woul

Why aren’t you saying anything?”Richard, however, didn’t flinch. He glanced at Angela, his expression empty and unreadable. He said nothing, his gaze cold.Vivian, who had been observing the exchange between Richard and Angela, couldn’t hide the frown that crossed her face. Her disappointment was palpable. Although Vivian had played a part in today’s confrontation, she couldn’t help but feel frustrated by Richard’s lack of action. Sandra and Morris had humiliated Amelia time and time again, yet Richard—her fiancé—stood by silently, not lifting a finger to defend her.Vivian was not a snobbish woman; she didn’t judge people by their wealth or background. As a student of Charles Anderson, Morris was well aware that Symphony No. 10 was one of the most challenging pieces to perform in the entire piano world. Countless renowned pianists had attempted to recreate it, but none had truly captured its essence. The technical difficulty alone was enough to test even the most accomplished musicians, but the emotional depth required to perform it was what truly set it apart.Vivian had chosen to compete with Morris on the piece “When a Man Loves a Woman.” It was a beautiful song, yes, but compared to Symphony No. 10, it was relatively simple. There were countless pianists who could play that song, but only a select few could even attempt to bring the full weight of Symphony No. 10 to life.Richard watched Morris closely, his expression cold and composed. His thoughts drifted to the past, far from the present moment, as he observed the man before him.In his youth, Richard had learned the piano in the orphanage. It wasn’t a grand or well-equipped p

Richard took a deep breath, trying to pull himself out of the heavy weight of his memories and back into the present moment. The piano’s haunting melody still echoed faintly in his mind, but he knew he had to focus. He sighed softly, his breath carrying the quiet frustration of the moment, before standing up slowly and locking eyes with Morris. From the beginning, the outcome of this competition had been all but decided. It was clear to anyone with even a basic understanding of the piano that Richard and Morris were not on the same level. To put it simply, there was no contest. Richard was destined to win, and deep down, Morris had to have known that. It was only a matter of time before he would have to admit it.“I lost,” Morris finally muttered, his voice low and begrudging.Richard’s lips curled into a faint, almost imperceptible smile. "You admit defeat?" he asked, his tone not mocking, but matter-of-fact. "Didn't you say I was trash before? Now you can't even win against me? So, c

“Apologize to you?” Amelia’s voice wavered in disbelief when she heard Sandra’s words. The audacity of the request left her speechless.Sandra, standing there with a malicious glint in her eyes, stared them down, her arms crossed. “Yeah, if you don’t dare compete with me, it means you’ve lost. If you lose, you have to apologize to me!” she said with a smug smile, clearly enjoying the power she thought she had over them.Amelia’s frustration boiled over. “You have no shame! It’s already gracious of us not to ask for an apology from you. Why should we apologize to you? On what grounds?” Her voice rose, her patience worn thin by Sandra's arrogance.“I don’t care, but now you only have two choices,” Sandra snapped, her tone biting and firm. “Either you let Richard compete with me on the guitar, or you apologize to me right now. Otherwise, no one is leaving today!” Her words rang with the venom of someone who was accustomed to getting her way.Richard, Amelia, and the others had been trying

Turning toward Richard, Sandra sneered, her lips curling into a disdainful smile. “Come with me to the third floor!” she shouted arrogantly, already heading toward the stairs without a second glance.Richard, feeling the weight of the situation but unwilling to let Sandra have the last word, sighed softly. He followed her up the stairs, his thoughts a mix of irritation and inevitability. It seemed like there was no way out of this ridiculous competition.A few minutes later, Richard, Amelia, Angela, and the others made their way to the third floor of Symphony Studio, each of them silently anticipating the upcoming showdown. Everyone had gathered, eager to watch the spectacle unfold.Once they arrived, Richard, ever the gentleman, allowed Sandra to play first. He stepped aside with a calm, collected demeanor, aware that Sandra’s performance would be nothing short of spectacular.Sandra didn’t hesitate. Sandra’s fingers danced over the guitar strings, and the sweet, familiar melody of “When a Man Loves a Woman” flowed through the room. Every note she played was flawless, every chord perfectly struck. Even an experienced guitarist might have hesitated to compete against her. The performance was so polished, so precise, that it was hard to believe she was anything less than a virtuoso. But Richard, standing at the back of the room, showed no sign of backing down. To everyone else, it seemed like a futile attempt on his part—he was only setting himself up for humiliation. As the crowd murmured and watched him, Richard ignored the curious and somewhat mocking glances. He walked steadily toward the guitar, his steps calm and assured. The murmurs faded into the background as his fingers gently touched the strings.“Huff…” Richard inhaled deeply, grounding himself in the moment, feeling the instrument in his hands. He closed his eyes for a brief second, remembering the lessons from his youth

As Richard’s fingers gently hovered over the guitar strings, an unexpected hush filled the room. The audience, captivated by the rhythm of the guitar, had forgotten about the rivalry. They were pulled into the melody that Richard weaved with his touch. Each note resonated deeper than the last, and the atmosphere shifted.Sandra, who had been so certain of her victory, couldn't hide her shock. When she saw Richard's calm, measured approach, she felt a twinge of unease. As his melody began to flow, she could sense something stirring in the room, something that no amount of practiced technique could overcome. When the final note of Richard’s performance lingered in the air, a deep silence followed. It was a silence of reflection, of the kind of music that moved the soul. Richard gently placed the guitar down and slowly opened his eyes, his breath steady.“Who won?” Richard asked, his voice calm, almost unbothered by the tension surrounding him. His words hung in the air, defying the obvio
