Instead, the person who stepped out was the lobby manager of the Morgan Empire—Freya Davidson.

Richard’s gaze landed on Freya, and for a brief moment, a flicker of disappointment crossed his face. He then shook his head, helplessly, and forced a bitter smile.

“Miss Davidson, what are you doing here?”

A trace of disappointment was evident on James’ face as he confronted Freya, his voice laced with anger.

“Mr. James… I…”

Freya’s voice trembled as she stammered, clearly unsettled by James’ sharp tone, and struggled to explain.

“What is it?”

James snapped, glaring at her, before continuing, “Didn’t I specifically tell you this morning that I have an important meeting? No one is allowed to interrupt us.”

“Mr. James, I... I know it’s important, that’s why I came up…” Freya responded, her voice barely above a whisper.

“What exactly are you doing here?”

Harvey York, sensing Freya might be buying time for Richard, interrupted impatiently.

Freya hesitated, stunned for a moment by Harvey’s outbur

The meeting room buzzed with the murmur of voices as more than a dozen men in suits filed in. The air was thick with anticipation, and Richard could feel the weight of the moment pressing down on him. He had thought he was prepared for this day, but the reality was starting to sink in.As his eyes scanned the room, Richard’s gaze landed on a familiar face—Maya.Maya. The same woman who had pressured him into revealing his true identity to the world. Her presence here now only reminded him of the uncomfortable truth that he had never asked for this power, nor had he wanted it. But now, it seemed, there was no turning back.Maya had come with a group of lawyers, men who, despite their sharp suits and stern faces, showed Richard nothing but respect. These were professionals, just like Richard, tied to the old Chairman’s legacy. They were there to ensure that the inheritance was handled according to the rules.Jasper stood beside Richard, silent but ever watchful, as if sensing the turmoil

After the video ended, the conference room was filled with a tense silence. The harsh light from the projector still flickered in the background, reflecting on the faces of the gathered professionals. James turned slowly toward Felix, his fingers still lingering on the mouse, and with a deliberate breath, he asked, "Mr. Whitmore, are we starting now?"Felix gave a quick nod, his gaze lingering on the screen before answering quietly, “Yes, you can show it now.”James took a deep breath, his hands steady as he clicked the mouse. The video began to play on the large projection screen, and Richard sat back, his face unreadable. The footage started with a shot of him scrubbing the floors of the Hamilton family house, his hands moving mechanically as he cleaned. Then, the camera shifted to capture Richard doing laundry, his brow furrowed with exhaustion, the sound of Lilian’s mocking laughter filling the room. The video showed Richard’s humiliation in excruciating detail—Lilian berating him

“I plan on continuing the legacy my grandfather created,” Richard replied, his voice steady but carrying the weight of a responsibility he could never fully anticipate. “I will work alongside the various managers and ensure the smooth running of the Empire, guiding it from greatness to greatness.”Maya’s gaze lingered on Richard, and she couldn’t help but feel a surge of surprise. It wasn’t often that he spoke with such determination, but despite his words, she found them lacking, not convincing enough. He was trying, but there was something in his delivery that didn’t match the gravitas required for such a monumental task. Could someone like him truly uphold the Empire?“Mr. Richard, your response is insufficient,” Maya spoke up, her tone firm, cutting through the tense air. “The Morgan Empire requires someone capable of managing its day-to-day operations, someone who truly understands the complexities of such an immense business. Doubt lingers in our minds whether a man like you—an o

The room grew thick with tension as the lawyers sat in their seats, their eyes darting between one another, unsure of what to do next. None of them dared to raise their hands, not even a slight motion. The fear was palpable. If Maya became the heir, they all knew she would hold their fates in her hands. No one wanted to risk incurring her wrath. In a situation where loyalty could be so easily bought, the safest course of action was to remain neutral, to keep their heads down.Maya, watching them closely, could feel her blood beginning to boil. She could almost hear their thoughts—their hesitation, their fear. And yet, they did nothing.“Mr. Felix,” Maya spoke with a smile, but there was a sharp edge to her voice. “Do you think we should continue voting? There’s no one left to support Richard now, is there?”Felix’s gaze remained steady. He snorted coldly, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. “Who said there was no one supporting Mr. Richard?”Without a moment’s hesitation, Felix raised h

Even James couldn’t help but turn his gaze toward Felix. There was a noticeable shift in the room, an electric tension hanging in the air as Felix’s words loomed large.“Not only did Chairman George mention this to Mr. James,” Felix said, his tone unchanging, “but he also said the same to me. I believe Mr. James’ statement makes perfect sense. When our lawyer team fails to reach a unified opinion, he is indeed qualified to participate in the vote.”Maya’s eyes widened in disbelief. Her jaw clenched as she stared at Felix, unable to mask the shock on her face. No, this can’t be happening. She had expected so many things, but Felix—Felix standing up for James and Richard—was beyond her wildest expectations.“Mr. Felix, what… what are you trying to say? Have you conspired with James against me?” Her voice was trembling with a mixture of fury and confusion, as if she could hardly believe what was happening.Felix's face remained stoic, his gaze unwavering as he addressed her. “Ms. Maya, th

After Maya stormed out, her heels clicking sharply against the floor, she left behind a silence so heavy it felt like the room itself was holding its breath. The door clicked shut behind her with a finality that echoed in the stillness.Felix slowly rose from his seat, his movements measured, and for a moment, his gaze lingered on the now-empty space where Maya had stood just moments ago. He turned to Richard and the others in the room, his voice steady but filled with a quiet resolve.“I will now announce the arbitration result,” Felix began, his words cutting through the tension like a blade. “After unanimous voting by the twelve lawyers in our legal team, Mr. Richard still qualifies to inherit Mr. Morgan's estate. Therefore, Mr. Richard remains the sole heir of Mr. George.”Relief washed over Richard like a wave, the weight that had been pressing down on his chest lifting suddenly. His muscles, which had been coiled tight with anxiety, relaxed for the first time in what felt like fo

There were no words left to say.Meanwhile, Richard, after stepping into the elevator, felt a rush of urgency as the doors closed behind him. His mind raced. Amelia. I need to explain things to her. He knew she was probably already halfway out of the building, and by the time he reached the ground floor, it would be too late. But he couldn’t shake the feeling that there was still a chance to make things right. The elevator doors opened with a soft chime, and Richard quickly exited. His heart dropped when he saw Amelia and Vivian already making their way toward the parking lot. It’s too late, he thought. I won’t catch up in time. But there was no time to think.
