“You know Ms. Sydni?!” as if he hadn’t got enough surprises for the day, the Mother of his best friend and the manager of the orphanage appeared to know each other for some reason.
“Do you know where she is Adam?!”
“No! I don’t! She left a message saying she well be back by 4 pm!”
“Oh my god! I can’t reach her! She’s not answering her phone! What do I do?!”
“You are an adult Mrs. Perla, and so is she, I don’t believe its quite appropriate asking a child what to do.”
A twitching smile formed on Mrs. Perla’s face while her eyes closed to slits. “Its… nice to see that you are still… you!”
“who else would I be?!” he slid passed her into the apartment uninvited. “Can I speak with Mela?”
“You… are already in!” she sighed while pinching her nose Bridge slightly.
“Mela! Are you here?” he knocked twice on the door to Mela’s room. His mind still working to figure out the relationship between Sydni and Perla, the breakfast a few days ago in Sydni’s office kept coming to his mind. ‘Is Mrs. Perla the reason Sydni started helping me?’ he wondered.
“Come in Adam!”
Adam went through the door that opened on its own to see Mela who sat on a massaging chair, her whole body vibrating slightly.
“Exhausted?! We didn’t move around much!” Adam raised his eyebrows, he didn’t think that her case is as bad as being exhausted from just this amount of effort, she was wearing an exoskeleton suit that supported her movement, the symbiote also reported that she undergoes treatment, and her muscles functions with 78% of its normal strength.
“No not that! My body is just stiff from all the excitement, I need to relax a bit.” She closed her eyes peacefully.
‘Can we make a suit that can help her get better? Or any solution!’ Adam inwardly asked.
[Muscle stimulating exoskeleton suit will require an external power source.]
A slight smile appeared on Adam’s face. ‘Keet! Can you redirect my order to my current location and add a power cell to it!’
An icon with Keet’s face appeared in Adam’s vision. (What are you planning kid?! You know if an hour passed and you are still not out, I’ll level the entire city to get you out! And that will be on you, any thing I do is your fault from now on.)
‘Shut up old face! It’s not like you have a conscience.’
(I changed your f*king diapers brat! Respect me a little!!)
‘Ok! Will you do it then?!’
(Shameless mother f… do you need any thing else?)
‘No thank you! I appreciate your help.’ Adam closed the channel between them and approached Mela gently.
“I’ll help you get better, it’s a gift too.” He said in a soft voice patting her head.
“How are you going to do that? Do you have magic?”
“Yes! I can breathe fire too! What kind of crap do you watch on TV?!” he chuckled flicking her head. “I’m waiting on a drone to deliver a few things, I’ll go to the bathroom until the delivery arrives.” He headed into the bathroom and closed the door behind him.
‘how much time will it take to absorb these crystals?’
[approximately 10 minutes for the full process once the materials reaches the stomach.]
‘Easy for you to say! I’m the one who’s gonna be choking on 13 pieces of 10 centimeter crystals.’ tears gathered under his eyelids.
The 10 centimeter crystal in his hand was not thicker than a finger, however, the pain he would feel during the fusion process is what brought tears to his eyes.
He closed his eyes and hastily swallowed them one after the other before he can think twice about it. A single tear traveled down from his left eye, as he used some of the fabric on his body to make a comfortable seat.
The relieving dismantling process ended, and he mentally prepared for the hell to come, alas, no amount of preparation was enough.
A hellish 7 minutes of regret and self cursing made his expression as dark as a burnt bread when he regained his mobility.
[New skill acquired, space displacement.
Can be used to control the host’s position in space. Flying and floating is possible. The amount of space displaced is dependent on the host’s strength and the amount of gravity stone in the body.]
‘magic!’ Adam’s eyes widened in excitement, his whole body felt heavier and stiffer, moving was like lifting heavy weights, but if he can fly, it’s definitely worth the pain and the unpleasant feeling of countless ants crawling under his skin.
He thought to test it first, he focused on the skill too hard, and his head made a bump in the bathroom’s ceiling.
“Are you okay in there Adam?!” Mela asked when she heard a loud crashing sound.
“Yeah! Don’t worry! Coming out.” Controlling his altitude proved to be harder then he anticipated, as the gravity stone’s function is to cancel or generate a gravitational field, or do both at the same time.
If he cancels the planet’s gravitational field, he would start falling out of earth due to its continuous movement in space, and the centrifugal force of its rotation. And if he creates his own gravitational field, the planet would pull on him harder and harder, until he falls through the ground to the core of the planet.
The way to control his position in space, is by constantly calculating the amount of force needed to keep him in place or fly him to wherever he wants, and to have the accurate control to produce this exact amount of force, no more, no less.
A very powerful quantum computer is used to stabilize these forces in all flying machines, to master the equation used for controlling the gravity stones, mankind spent more then a century studying the stones after finding a small amount of it near the core of some planets in the solar system.
Luckily, Adam had a very powerful card he was too rash to play, the symbiote can do the calculations for him using his subconscious mind, which as proven earlier, it can surpass a strong Artificial intelligence. However, the skill and his body were still adapting, he used the skill before it was ready, and his head paid the price.
“You are hurt! Oh my god! You are bleeding! What happened in there?” Mela brought an icy bag from the fridge to ease the red swelling bump on his head, and a first aid kit, which unfortunately she doesn’t know how to use.
“I’m fine! It’s just a shallow wound!” he stopped her from wasting a good bag of beans, and opened the glass window to receive the package he was waiting for.
“You ready Mela?” Adam started opening the box that the drone gave him the moment he opened the window, it weighed about 15 kilograms, but Adam almost didn’t feel his weight.
“Ready for what! Did you really bring me a gift!” she blushed cutely as her shining hazel eyes fixated on the box.
“I hope you aren’t getting mad as well!! I have no clue how to cure madness!” Adam glanced at her and her precious look.
“You ruined the moment!!” she shouted at him madly for interrupting the romantic scenario she had playing in her head.
“What moment! Are you okay? Should I worry?!” Adam unpacked the box slowly while glancing at her every now and then, until a white bracelet studded with many blue crystals came to his hand.
“This doesn’t look like the picture at all! Stupid sales!”
“Its gorgeous! I love it!” She screamed in joy snatching the bracelet out of his hands and jumping around with it until she tripped and fell.
“Is it madness! I hope it’s not contagious!” He never saw her that happy before, he genuinely had no idea she would fall into madness.
“Shut up and let me enjoy the moment!!” she screamed at him before turning her face back to a delighted smile.
‘See what we can do!’ after connecting the 10 kg of cluster fabric to the bracelet, Adam touched the bracelet on Mela’s hand to allow the symbiote to access it.[Scanning…Accessing code data…Neutralizing fire walls…Limiters found, Limiters removed.Full version unlocked.System code improved.Building defensive measures…Upgrade successful.Would you like to connect to this core?]“This is amazing…!” Adam murmured as the bracelet slowly changed and absorbed some cluster fabric. He watched the entire process, as a normal core turned into a super military grade core. ‘How can a system core sold to civilian have the potential to become a top military core with all the technology a
“UFO detected In sector D25, sending scout.” Tommy the tower observer reported on the global communication channel prepared for this crises. He mentally guided 2 drones towards Adam’s location to investigate the Unknown/Unregistered flying object phenomenon. the drones captured nothing using normal vision, in thermal vision however, they detected a disappearing heat signature of a child like silhouette. They quickly explored different kinds of visions to see the same fading figure each time, until they couldn’t detect him at all.“Lost all visual. The UFO Used an advanced concealment, possible hostage scenario, requesting backup, satellite observers! Do you have visual.”…In the mean time, Adam was 5 km in the air, being hit by a strong wind, the sunlight assaulting his eyes as he flung left and right trying to control his position in space. At first, he thought its going to be made easy by the skill, like what happened with the cluster fabric skill. But once he launched into the air
“Who do you think that was?!” Johnny wondered about the identity of the war machine that caused all that trouble in city 17 in one day. Exposing a hidden criminal organization, and then a dangerous powerful signal that reaches the entire planet originating from the city, a UFO in the middle of the city, and lastly a ghost sonic boom, each one of these events were big enough to have multiple divisions in the tower investigating it. but all of them happening in the span of 2 hours, is a clear indication that they are all linked.“Maybe it’s a warning from the higher ups! They are telling us that we became too sluggish!” Demetri’s point of view wasn’t as grim as Johnny’s expression. he saw countless wars outside earth, way more than what Johnny witnessed. his knowledge of war machines and those who owns them allowed him to deduct that it must be a non hostile, because if it was, the casualties would be uncountable.
“I’m supposed to trust you now and tell you my story?!” Adam chuckled and looked at Keet laying down beside him.“No! You Are supposed to stop treating me like an Artificial Intelligence, because I’m not, and also I’m really worried about you! What happened earlier was by no means normal!”“Okay! I’ll tell you the story later but for now, all you need to know is that I convert food into energy and use this energy to do things like flying and controlling fabric and other stuff.” Adam casually revealed to him as he stood up. “Can I have a mirror please? I want to see how this cool space suit looks on me.”“You care about how you look that much! Is it your girlfriend or something?!” Keet teased him watching him as he changed the helmet of the space suit and started to change the rest of it.Keet was thinking about what could have caused a 9 year old kid to have such abilities. A normal human would never sacrifice his real legs for a prosthetic leg to be able to fly or float, they have ca
The inside of the ship was almost the same as Adam’s living room back home, but smaller, and the ceiling was closer at only 2.5 meters high. It included a comfy sofa, two chairs occupied by Adam and Keet, and a coffee table in the middle. On the wall there were pictures of Adam and his father and mother, some of the pictures were moving and repeating a certain pose or action, it was like a moment frozen in time, so clear and detailed, and almost alive. It was fancy, and every thing smelled nice, Birdy never saw any thing like it before, he knew nothing other then the orphanage and its walls, and every thing he knew about the outside came from the books and comics he always reads.“So what’s your answer?”“You kidding me!! Of course I’ll come! I hate this place, everyone is mean to me! Even if you are going to hell it would be better then this place! But I hope you’re not though! It’s gonna be hot, and I don’t want to die burning! I think I would taste good though…”Keet was already an
“Because raising a child a thousand kilometers away from any living human is a bad idea!” Keet sighed while sinking into the chair he was sitting on, under the frightened eyes of Birdy, whose suit also melted down into the floor turning into nothingness.“A… Adam… your… friend! What happened… to him?! Was he a ghost!” Birdy jumped behind Adam for protection, visibly shaking in fear, he knew of the existence of cluster fabric, but he had no idea about its function, nor he ever seen it before. To him, the apex of technology, is the old machinery he helps Mr. Roland fix in his work shop. He often heard him talk about other things on the phone, however, he didn’t bother him with questions, to not make him angry, or annoy him and never find a job again.“Don’t worry Birdy! Keet is a friendly ghost.” Adam had many things on his mind, and wasn’t ready to explain the situation to Birdy, not when he himself didn’t fully understand the situation. “Keet! Give Birdy full access to the network and
On a small floating island among the heavy clouds, shaded by a net made from flexible steel wires with gabs smaller than a man’s head, Adam wearing a black armored space suit covering his entire body, was getting ready to start his flying test. This suit had a safety mechanism in its exoskeleton to prevent any excess bending of any joint, muscle, or bone, to avoid all injuries incase of impacts. He took a final nervous glance at his stats to make sure he have enough energy.[strength: 20.Stamina: 20.vitality: 20.energy: 199/200.]‘Can you change the energy stats back to percentage! It was easier to keep track of it.’ He sometimes found it confusing as he was used to the 100% energy system, and turning it into a point system sometimes made him read it wrong at first.[energy: 99.5%.]Feeling better with the modification, he started to focus on the skill, and moderately exerted some force.Keet was watching him but he didn’t manifest his human form, instead, he had several cables rea
Keet didn’t pay him any mind, he was focused on examining the anomaly in front of him, and Birdy wasn’t important to him at all. Living for almost three hundred years made him lose any attachment to human lives that didn’t have any significant to him. Keet wasn’t a cold artificial intelligence, but he wasn’t a human either, he was something in between. Birdy gathered what little courage and determination he had, and approached Adam with the intention of saving him from this unsightly torture, or at least lessen his sentence and share his pain. Sadly, he had too little courage, his knees buckled as he stepped on the vibrating platform and saw Adam’s face up close, several veins were visible on his tensed up neck, and blood red forehead, he was gritting his teeth in pain, sweat dripping from everywhere on him. “Boy! If you go near him you could get crushed by the gravitational field.” Keet calmly warned, not bothering to look at Birdy, he just didn’t want his death to interrupt the e
