Chapter 6: level headed conversation.

Adam and miss Sydni returned to her office shortly after Elina finished checking Adam's condition, miss Sydni didn't waste more time and asked Adam. "why are you trying to escape, Adam!? Where do you wish to go! As a child, we cannot just let you live alone! Do you know where your father is?" her voice was kind, her expression was honest.

'so it is real! She wants to help me!' Adam thought. 'but why now!? I've been trying to escape for three months!' and as if she was reading his mind, miss Sydni said. "I'm asking you this now because I can see you are smart. previously we all thought you just needed some time to get used to the place, but if it comes to hurting your self trying to escape! We can't allow that…"

"so you can take me by force, put me in this place, and not listen to me until I hurt my self trying to escape!? And all that is because my father is away for work, and you are stronger than me?!"

Miss Sydni suddenly felt dizzy, in front of her was a 9 year old kid, but the words she heard, the way those words were spoken. As much as these words shocked her, she couldn't deny the truth behind them.

Adam wanted her to help him, but he didn't like the way everyone was talking as if they know what's best for him. He was not a foolish child, they showed up one day, kept asking questions, then they took him against his will. He fought back, but what can he do.

"I promise you that I just want to help, so tell me what you want to do?" after shaking off her daze, miss Sydni asked.

"I want to go home, and I want to be left alone. I'm not an orphan, and my father is not irresponsible for leaving me home alone. He knows I can take care of my self." Adam said in a cold tone, not averting his eyes from miss Sydni as if they were in a staring contest.

"leaving you alone is not an option, at least until you turn 16." Miss Sydni said firmly. "And what kind of a father leaves a 9 year old kid home, without even a nanny?" she partially forgot that the 9 year old kid she is talking about, is actually the same kid in front of her.

"what do I need to pay to get you out of my life? For ever!" miss Sydni's shock this time was doubled, not only did Adam totally sound like an adult by this point, he was actually trying to bribe her out of his life.

"are you trying to bribe me?!" she scoffed. "the law doesn't allow people to leave their kids home, and just go take a vacation somewhere!." She said as she stood up walking around the office. "And you need to speak to me with more respect, I'm way older then you!" she was a woman in her mid thirties, yet she felt the need to remind him of that.

"I thought we were finally having a level headed conversation! Okay then I'll be going now, I've plans." Adam said in a series tone that actually didn't surprise her, she also over looked the part where he Ridiculed her, as if she was a child throwing a tantrum. As he jumped down from the comfy couch.

"okay then, I'll play along!" she sighed. "If you have a way to call your father I need to speak to him. Also he needs to appoint a guardian for you." she said while Adam was preparing to leave.

He stopped and looked at her expectantly.

"I'll give you 3 days. During this time you need to promise me that you will not escape. And also I'll be coming with you wherever you go." She turned to her chair preparing to set behind the desk. "this is me giving you a chance, Adam. Prove to me that you are not a dumb kid! And we will leave you alone."

"fair enough!" he said with a smile that could only be seen for a second. "when do we leave?"

"Tomorrow, at 2pm. Consider it a vacation." She said with a radiant smile.

Adam then left the office, heading towards the cafeteria. He had a hunger that didn't seem to go away, so he needed to stop being picky, and eat what ever comes in his way. Nothing will be worth then eating Vergo's stash.

When he remembered that he still had to deal with Vergo, he felt a slight headache coming. Even though the kids in the room he was living in were not bullies or any thing, they more then once tried playing rough with him. Of course it didn't end well for both parties involved.

On his way to the cafeteria, Adam opened his closet, it was relatively close to the room being only 5 closets away. He took the pay card which was the only thing in the closet other than a change of clothes.

This pay card was given to the kids to use as currency in the orphanage, they would get a daily allowance equivalent to 2 coins, this amount was enough to buy three meals. Since a peace of bread was worth only 0.1 coin.

If they wanted to get more coins, they would have to do several chores, which would earn them more than the daily allowance. They can than buy things from the city, and request it to be delivered with the supply truck. That was all done using the monitors around the play ground.

Adam had a three months worth of allowance, deducting the occasional fruit or vegetables he would buy and eat.

His total balance was 137 coins, when he arrived at the cafeteria, he smelled different food aromas, which he never found to be delightful. However, he now didn't mind it as much as before.

He approached one of many monitors on a wall that behind it was the kitchen, the monitor was the size of a book, it was 1.5 meters off the floor, and in front of it, a small step for the shorter kids. Adam touched the monitor and scrolled through the available food and edibles, when all of a sudden…

Adam was again surprised, he barely touched the monitor and the thing already scanned it.

'what exactly are you?.' He asked, eager for an answer.

'what will this synchronization do exactly?' Adam finally asked, he needed to get more information about that thing, but it seems to need to be synchronized with something to answer him.
