Chapter 8: a lawn mower.

Adam's eyes widened, he gasped in awe. The symbiote just revealed to him that it can read people's minds like it was nothing. Adam actually ignored all the other thoughts and images projected by the symbiote, and focused on the part where it said (biological data), it showed him that he just needs to touch a living being, and its memory, thoughts, and Physical condition will be analyzed.

Adam quickly left the play ground, heading to the one person he would test this on.

Birdy was helping Roland, the maintenance worker, with his job. Roland is the only one in his team, he is responsible for the entire orphanage's maintenance. the orphanage consists of two buildings, a play ground, and the outer wall which had several cameras and equipment on it.

Helping Roland were one of the most paid tasks that kids can get, although usually only older kids are accepted, because of size and strength of course. There were some tasks that required brain more than Brawn, Roland would then request specific kids, Birdy was one of his favorite helpers, for the sole reason that he would do what he's told, no hesitation, no question, he would talk like a talk show of course, but when focus is needed, he would focus.

Roland Burgos is a tall thin man, with a black trimmed beard, a long black hair that reaches his shoulders, tide in a ponytail, with its ends and some whole strands being white, his Eyes dark brown, not many wrinkles on his face, only the ones left behind by his long loud laughing, and his long sleepless nights.

Birdy was helping him fix a malfunctioning lawn mower, they were in the second building, which had the swimming pool, the inside activity and sports, and the maintenance workshop.

"ok, press the Green button!" said Roland with his head inside an opening on the side of the lawn mower.

When Birdy pressed a Green button on the Screen, which was the size of an adult's palm, on the other side of the lawn mower, a green light shown from beneath the lawn mower.

"I think its working now! Lets go test it." Roland said while closing the cover.

he came to the other side, holding Birdy's shoulder and getting down on his knee, Roland pressed a few buttons on the screen in succession.

Any one looking at the two from a far would mistake them for a father teaching his son how to fix a lawn mower.

With a crackling noise, the lawn mower raised its self on its legs, which all ended with an omnidirectional wheel.

At the moment it started to scan its surroundings, Adam arrived in front of the workshop door, which was 3 meters high, and had the two sides of its sliders open wide.

A cube like robot, with four retractable limbs connected to the middle of each of its edges, its upper part black, with solar panels covering the entire surface, the lower part green with multiple tubes coming out of it, it had a bulging half ball glass dome the size of a palm, on each of its angles. It was 1.5 meters tall, which looked like a giant to Adam when it passed by him walking on its tall legs.

Adam stared at it for a moment, it was heading to a green area near the wall.

"birdy! Are you done yet?!" Adam asked with an excited expression on his face, which actually shocked both birdy and Mr. Roland. "Hi! Mr. Roland, do you still need Birdy with you?" Adam asked Mr. Roland when Birdy was taking too much to answer.

"we are done for today, but I want him tomorrow in one piece!" Mr. Roland said with a chuckle. "what made you excited any way! I want some!" he couldn't help but ask while Birdy was actually terrified.

For three months in the orphanage, no one have ever seen Adam's facial expressions change. His current expression was not extreme or even obvious for a stranger, but to Birdy who have seen Adam almost every day for three months, he never saw him laugh or smile, he never saw him even speak unless he had some plan to escape or was plotting something.

Mr. Roland respected and actually liked Adam, he saw him as a serious man, not as a child. When ever Adam's punishment was helping him, he would try to speak with Adam, Adam would occasionally answer him when the subject was to his liking. Adam also wasn't just helping, sometimes he would learn the simple things and do them on his own.

While Birdy was thinking of an excuse to escape from Adam, he was grabbed by him and dragged outside.

Roland was actually tempted to follow them, his curiosity was peeked, seeing Adam excited like that. But he preferred to respect their privacy.

Adam was holding Birdy's hand dragging him to a place where no one can see them, "Adam! Are you gonna kill me? I didn't tell Vergo that you stole his stash! He figured it out on his own, I swear! I don't know what you did with my pillow, but I forgive you! I can give 50 credits if you leave me alone, I was planning to buy some comics, but you can take them, just let me go! I have my entire future in front of me, I don't want to die this young, I haven't even kissed a girl yet! why do you think there is no girls here? Do girls parents not abandon them? Why did my parents leave me! Because I'm not a girl? If I was b…"

Ae usual, Birdy didn't stop talking until he felt a slap on the back of his head. "why would I kill you! And who cares about Vergo?! As for your pillow… I wouldn't sleep on it again if I was you." Said Adam while staring at Birdy, who felt uncomfortable standing alone with Adam, in the changing room of the pool area, which was empty at this time.

Birdy took a few steps back, away from Adam. "what are you gonna do to me?!" he was about to cry.

"I don't actually know! But I need you to not speak about this to any one! Ever." Adam said while raising his hand, reaching for Birdy's forehead. Birdy was cowering back in fear, the moment Adam touched his head…
