7. Happiness for Savana

Everyone in Cooper's room was naturally surprised. It had never occurred to them that their names would be on the Commander-in-Chief's invitation list. Cooper pulled several envelopes from the table with their names engraved in bold gold letters.

Savana rubbed her eyes a few times to make sure she wasn't mistaken. "Does this have Xavier's name on it too?" a disbelieving Savana chirped.

"Wh-what?" At a loss for words, Joseph looked at the names on the front of the envelope one by one.

"This is all the sender gave us. I'm sure there must be something wrong! I would have come even if I hadn't received such an invitation! After all, I am the owner of the Cooper Company, and you wouldn't exist without me!" Cooper exclaimed as he massaged his dizzy head.

"Grandpa!" Haris, who had suddenly appeared, opened the door without knocking.

"What's wrong?" asked Cooper.

"Is there an invitation for me from the Commander-in-Chief? I heard that one of his men just sent an invitation to our office," Haris exclaimed.

"Yes, I want one too!" Yuan, who was behind Haris, walked in.

"Nothing for you guys!" Cooper was already annoyed, but when he got a question from his favourite grandson, he was even more annoyed that they didn't get one.

"Huh? Then who's going?" Yuan exclaimed.

"Just their families," Cooper exclaimed, pointing to Sheila and Savana's families.

"Look!" Haris snatched several envelopes out of Joseph's hand.

"What the hell is this? How could Xavier be on the invitation list?" Haris grumbled as he threw the envelopes on the floor. An angry Savana glared at her brother.

"You!" Savana held back her curses, only able to stroke her chest as she picked up some of the envelopes.

"This is not our wish, but our names are here, Grandpa, Brother Haris and Brother Yuan. But can't you all watch on TV? At least they still honour the Cooper Company by inviting our representatives. What's wrong with us going? If we make a good impression, won't you still make a profit? Isn't that what you were hoping for?" Savana tried to speak, looking at Cooper, Haris and Yuan in turn.

"No! You still have to go there and ask if there was a mistake in the invitation."

"If it's really just our names, won't that embarrass you even more?" chimed in Sheila, tired of dealing with them herself.

Seeing that Cooper had said nothing, Joseph spoke immediately. "Grandfather, I promise to bring the Cooper family name to the attention of the Commander-in-Chief. I hope you won't have to come and embarrass our family, as there will be many other bigwigs there. Right now, the Cooper Company can't be in the top five, but as the richest company in town, we can definitely be in the top five. However, please don't let the Commander-in-Chief know that we made a mess, so that only our bad impression will be left there."

Cooper tried to calm down and think clearly, Joseph, who was waiting for Cooper's answer, looked nervous. "Well, your suggestion is very welcome and reasonable, as long as you bring a gift from me to the Commander-in-Chief. Just say that I can't come, as if I was invited by the Commander-in-Chief, so that all those bigwigs don't look down on me!"

"Yes, Grandfather. Of course!" exclaimed Joseph, finally settling the argument. But not Haris and Yuan, who were furious and upset that he had lost to Xavier.

Another incident occurred to the Smith family gathered in the meeting room. All the members in the highest positions were the Smith children, except for Ella's family, who had already left.

"I have heard that all the companies have received invitations from the Commander-in-Chief. They're going to hold a welcoming ceremony for the Commander-in-Chief because there's a big project he's working on. This could put our company in the top five if we can get close to the Commander-in-Chief," Peter said as he looked at all the people gathered in the room.

"Yes, but nothing has been sent to us," Gylen replied.

"Didn't you ask in the lobby? Ask the reception, maybe they haven't given it to us yet." Smith said to Gylen.

"I asked them several times before we gathered here, Grandpa." Gylen explained calmly.

"I'm sure they'll send it a bit late Grandpa, so just relax." Janiska smiled broadly and tried to reassure Smith.

But Smith was still very worried that none of them had received the invitation. Then Smith said something about the development of his company.

"Right now we need a lot of money to repair the falling stock value and to cover the debts. I hope that working with the Commander-in-Chief will help us become number one. Yes, although that is highly unlikely as the Guetta Group is not only the richest family in the city, but also among the second richest people in the world. It's a shame that our image with their family has already been tarnished by a problem that even I don't understand."

"I have heard that Guetta's grandson is a handsome man, could he be the Grand Commander, Grandfather? I want to find out and get close to him so we can rebuild their trust," Janiska said as she flashed a wide smile.

"We don't even know who his grandson is, or his son. Guetta never introduces his family members to the public. I'm surprised myself," Smith grumbles.

"If I'm not mistaken, someone on social media said his initials were D. That's Guetta's son."

"Initial D? Who is that?" Smith tapped his hand on the table. He had memorised the name he knew in the Guetta family with the initial D, but he couldn't remember it at all and felt unfamiliar with it.

"Ah, now your job is to ask the guard at the front if there's a delivery of invitations for us!"

"Yes, Grandpa!"

Xavier returned home early, before his wife arrived. He had helped his mother-in-law prepare dinner, and Xavier had brought home some delicious food from Ella's house at his mother's request.

"Who made this? It tastes so good, it must have been made by a famous chef," exclaimed Anggie as she tasted the food. "I've cooked it before, but it tastes even better. It's a good thing I didn't cook too much. Can this dish be mine and Joseph's, you can eat my cooking with Savana." Anggie even made a request of Xavier.

It was as if Xavier wanted to refuse and give his mother's cooking to Savana. But if his mother-in-law liked it so much, Xavier had no choice but to nod.

"Good! Now get the plates ready, it'll be a while before Savana and Joseph come home. I need to take a quick shower, the smell of cooking is still on my body."

When Anggie left, leaving him alone, Xavier texted Ella that Anggie had tasted it and liked it. He also apologised that Savana and he hadn't been able to eat it because Anggie had whined about eating it with Joseph. Luckily Ella didn't mind, she said they could have it another time.

The doorbell rang and Xavier rushed to open the door for someone to come. As expected, it was Savana with Joseph.

"Anggie! Where's Anggie?"

Xavier pointed inside. "In her room, Dad."

Joseph nodded and rushed into the room, leaving his shoes scattered in front of the door. Xavier quickly cleaned them up.

"Xavier!" Savana suddenly exclaimed as she hugged his neck. This took Xavier by surprise and he looked back at Savana.

Seeing the joy and happiness in Savana's eyes, Xavier smiled too. "Why do you look so happy? You're really pretty that way."

Savana slapped Xavier's arm, her cheeks flushed. "Aish, you! Why are you flirting with me? I've brought you the happy news that we're going to the Grand Commander's welcome ceremony the day after tomorrow."

"Oh, just because of that?" Xavier was not surprised at all, so he replied casually.

"Ah, you know, all my brothers are really angry with you because you got an invitation and they didn't! So that's our luck," Savana exclaimed.

"But you're not upset that they didn't get it because they're still your family, right?"

"No, because I get more upset when they look down on you and put you down."

Xavier paused, his heart suddenly warmed to hear those words from Savana. He was very happy to hear them.

"Xavier, how about we go shopping for you tonight? What shall we get for the Commander-in-Chief?"
