Stepping out the door, his phone rang again.
*Ring.....ring* Seeing the caller's name on the screen, he frowned and hesitated to pick it up. Waiting for the ringing duration to end, he inserted his door key into the keyhole and locked the door. *Ring....ring* The phone began ringing again, this time he had to pick it up. "Hello mom" he said with a hint of dissatisfaction in his voice. **Hello son, how is everything?** "Am okay" he said grudgingly. **I called to let you know that your sisters just finished their promotion exams and will be coming home soon** "Yeah okay" there was a short pause "is that all? cos I have things to do" Hearing the annoyance in his voice, his mother scolded **come on son, don't be like that. Aren't you happy for your sisters?** "Of course I am, why wouldn't I be? I just have somewhere important that I need to be right now" **Oh you mean work? You have a job now?** she assumed expectantly. "Ehm...no I.....am going for an interview" Tisane closed his eyes in embarrassment as he lied. **Oh really? Well then son I wish you best of luck** she said with a hint of understanding in her voice. **But you should know that there is still a chance to work things out, your fa---** "Mom can we please not talk about that right now?" Tisane interrupted. "I really have to go, I'll call you later" **.....o--okay son, take care** she said resignedly with a hint of sadness in her voice. *sigh* after the call ended, he let out a long sigh and massaged his forehead. Speaking with his mother right now dampened his mood due to the unpleasant memories that he just remembered. He was of African origin, Nigeria to be precise and the first son in a family of five, with two sisters behind him. His mother, a charismatic businesswoman and financial instructor was involved in various businesses across the country. In other words, she was quite a busy woman. While his father, a no nonsense military officer, who believed in establishing his opinion and having others follow accordingly. His sisters were high school students with great beauty and promising future prospects. Also due to their brilliance, they advanced quickly in their academics. As for Tisane, well...it would be quite disappointing to attribute him any achievement or accolades, only for you my dear readers to find out the truth later on. Tisane was the 'black sheep' of the family, there I said it, 'the black sheep' He had it rough during his early teenage years, especially in school, Tisane never saw anything good about schooling. A mindset that resulted to a lot of escapades from school which incurred his father's wrath and severe punishment. He would have been a school dropout if not for the insistence and vehement support of his mother whom made sure he saw it through school and finally became a graduate. As for Tisane, he led a sad life, he was never good enough for his father and was considered a shame to the family in every African way. What pained him most, was how he was always compared to his younger sisters whom seemed more progressive in every aspect of their life. Tisane never hated his sisters but held an unintentional grudge against them for the huge shadow they casted over him. "Aish....." he pinched the centre in between his eyebrows as all this unpleasant memories came flooding in. He was still standing in front of his door when his cellphone rang again. Deciding not to answer it if it was his mother calling again. He checked the screen with a deep frown on his face. Seeing the caller's name on the screen, his frowned cleared immediately as he picked the call. "Hey bayo" **Hello Tisane, the whole crew's waiting, you coming or what?** "Oh....s--sorry, I got carried away" Tisane scratched his head with an awkward smile on his face. **Well, whatever it is that carried you away, we hope it dumps you at our crib no?** a series of laughter erupted in the background. "Haha....very funny bro" Tisane shook his head in laughter. "Don't you guys worry, am on my way" **Well, you better, cos little Mel ain't gonna wait for long** Hearing a rebuking 'hey!' from a feminine voice in the background, Tisane couldn't help but freeze for a second as he stuttered "Uh....uh" **Haha....don't worry melvina, we can give you both enough room to make up for lost time** **Just shut up you clown!** the feminine voice rebuked again. "Yeah bayo, please can you just shut up for Pete's sake?" Tisane timidly whispered over the phone. **Hehe....alright, alright enough teasing for now, see you soon Tisane. Don't come late or you'll miss your date** Tisane face palmed himself as he cut the call. 'Damn blabbermouth, why does he have to always say the first thing that comes to his mind without thinking about it first' Tisane cursed as he walked down the stairs from his apartment. Arriving at the expressway to hail down a transport vehicle, he noticed a little boy of around 8 years of age running up to him. "Uncle, can you please spare some change? I am very hungry but I don't have any money to buy food" the little boy spoke anxiously. Tisane sized up the boy. Torn clothes, dusty hairdo, bruised wrists and ankles with a haggard appearance. Two words came to Tisane's mind while he stared at the boy, 'orphan.....beggar'. This was a common scene in Nigeria. As a third world country, poverty and starvation were rampant occurrences among the low class citizens. Deciding to fulfil the little boy's request, Tisane reached into his wallet to take out some cash in it. *Sigh* guess am no different from you little guy' he shook his head as he saw the pitiable amount of cash remaining in his wallet. "Here you go" he stretched his hand towards the boy. "Thanks uncle!" the little boy's face brightened as he collected the money and smiled showing his brown-stained teeth. Tisane felt weird seeing the little boy smile. Nodding his head, he watched as the little boy skipped away. Successfully hailing down a motorcycle, which was one of the most popular mode of transportation in Nigeria, Tisane gave his destination address and haggled the price with the motorcyclist, which was a common practice among the citizens of the country. After agreeing on the transport fare, he stepped on the motorcycle and was taken off to his destination. ----------------------------------------------- Few minutes later, the motorcycle dropped him before a two storey building with a barbed wire fence and a large cream coloured gate. Knocking at the gate, he had to wait for a few seconds before the security pigeon hole compartment slid open to reveal someone's face. "What do you want?" the person asked. "Am a friend of bayo, he called me over" Tisane replied. "Called you over for what?" the person kept asking. "Well, there is a party here right?" Tisane asked as he nocked his eyebrow. "Yeah?" "Well am the special guest of honour" Tisane spoke plainly and grinned. "Eh?" "Let me in Yusuf, I know that's you" Tisane spoke in irritation. "Uh....." the person's eyeballs quaked. "Well I guess I should call bayo then" Tisane said bringing out his phone. That seemed to do the trick, as the person behind the gate panicked. "N---no need, no need sir" he hurriedly opened the gate. Tisane stepped into the compound as the gate opened only to set his eyes on a short, black native looking man. He stared at the man blankly, while the other scratched his head and revealed an awkward smile. "What gives Yusuf?" Tisane scolded the native man with a frown. "S--sorry Mr Tisane I just want to make sure master bayo and his friends are not disturbed" the native man replied righteously while bowing his head. "Tisane?" a voice called out. Turning towards to direction of the voice, Tisane smiled. "Hey Ibrahim, what's up bro" Tisane said as he walked towards to a light skinned guy wearing a hoody and shorts. "Long time no see" "Hoho! Tisane long time no see indeed!" Ibrahim, without warning hugged Tisane by his waist and lifted him straight up. "Ha! dude what the hell?! drop me down!" Tisane exclaimed in shock. Letting him go, Ibrahim had a smug look on his face. "What do you think? Am quite strong aren't I" Ibrahim flexed his arms with pride. Tisane rolled his eyes 'typical Ibrahim still kidding himself over his biceps and triceps' "Tisane?" another voice called out. Shifting his gaze to the source of the voice, Tisane felt every joint and muscle in his body freeze. There she was, standing at the front door of the house. Her smile seemed to make the building behind her become a palace and she the residing queen. 'Mel--melvina?' Tisane's eyeballs quaked.Staring at her elegant figure, Tisane couldn't help but imagine holding her in his arms. Even if it's just for a second, it would all be worth it. 'Oh Melvina....so pure, so beautiful' Tisane felt his heart beat faster and his face become very hot and flushed. As he was having his romantic fantasies..... "Hey everyone! Tisane's here. Time to get this party started!" Ibrahim's yell was like a grenade blasting away David's romantic thoughts. Turning his gaze to Ibrahim, Tisane had the urge to palm his face when he saw Ibrahim stupidly smiling and winking at him. 'Gosh.....this is so embarrassing' Tisane thought, hoping Melvina didn't catch on to the awkward atmosphere. "Is that you Tisane?" "Oi, Ibrahim's right, it really is Tisane!" "Haha....so you finally arrived Tisane?!" Due to Ibrahim's yell, Tisane's arrival became known to everyone. "Well, well Tisane you took your sweet time!" Bayo said as he came over. Tisane smiled as he saw his childhood friend embrace him in a
"Joyce, Esther come over, food is ready" she called out. "Yes mum we are coming" the two girls chorused. Coming out of their rooms, Joyce and Esther made their way to the dining room. Sitting down on their respective chairs, they salivated at the delectable dish placed before them. Taking a bite out of her own meal, Joyce couldn't help but lick her lips in happiness. "You're still one of the best cooks out there mom" she praised as she shifted her gaze to their mother whom was about to take her seat at the dining table. "Thanks dear, I take it as a responsibility to satisfy your tastes" their mother smiled. "I just hope we don't become obese due to constant eating of your food mom" Esther said. "That's foolish talk, Esther, there is nothing wrong in eating good food. It keeps you healthy and strong" their mother corrected. "By being fat?" Joyce interjected. "By looking healthy" their mother corrected again. "But mom, we are already as healthy as we can be" "You girls do
"Mum," Esther stared at her mother as she was about to finish eating. "Yes dear" Elizabeth raised her head to look at her daughter. "Um...." Esther seemed to hesitate. "Have you heard from Brother Tisane recently?" Elizabeth's expression seemed to drop when she heard her daughter's question. Nodding her head, she replied "Yes, I spoke to him on the phone not too long ago before you both arrived" "Really?" Esther and Joyce chorused. "How is he? When will he be coming home?" Seeing how concerned her daughters were over their senior brother's welfare, Elizabeth's heart couldn't help but feel happy. Only if Tisane realise how much they care about him. "He's fine" said Elizabeth as she answered her daughters' questions. "But am not sure when he will be coming home" Her second answer carried a lot of meanings that Esther and Joyce exchanged glances as they grasped some of those meanings. "Don't worry, he is going to be alright. He just need to have some experiences out there" Th
"Welcome daddy!!" Joyce and Esther chorused together as they hugged their father. "Hmm, gosh you girls are growing up too fast. If I wasn't as strong as superman, hugging you both like this would have been bad for my health" James joked as he lifted his daughters up in a tight embrace. "So, is that why they call you captain Nigeria dad?" Esther asked smiling. "Of course, do you think I would have lasted this long if I wasn't?" James said with a proud look on his face. "We are proud of you dad" Joyce added. "Thank you, and as a gift and reward for your successful examinations, I have enlisted you both as new recruits into the army, no questions asked" James said with a serious look on his face. "....." "....." "..." There was an immediate silence as the three ladies stared at James with shock on their faces. "Just joking" James later said as he saw the drastic change in their expressions. "But you girls should seriously consider my offer of making the Nigeria Defense Acad
"Mr Chairman, we have recorded huge profits from our updated marketing system and sales from our newly manufactured products" the secretary read the analysis in the boardroom meeting occupied by the top echelons of the company. "That's to be expected Miss Bolu. Ever since the emergence of our national revenue re-evaluation program, ACCOM has seen a rise in company sales and profits. Am just in anticipation of the financial waves we are going to stir when we introduce our latest goods and services" a man in French suit said. "Hmph, you are still getting excited over such things as profits. At the level ACCOM is now, we should be aiming at taking over the entire world!" another man dressed in the Nigerian clothing known as 'agbada' harrumphed and stated smugly. "One step at a time Mr Kunle, our rise to the apex is inevitable" a man also dressed in a French suit said confidently. "As philosophical as that sounds Mr Adewale, what is the point of taking a step at a time, when you can t
As Melvina came close to Tisane, he could smell her delicious perfume as it invaded his nose. Getting lost in her captivating aroma, she threw her arms around him and drew her face closer to his own. Tisane could almost feel the wetness of her lips as he sent out his tongue to have an early taste only to have a pair of fingers stopping his lips. As Tisane came to from his ecstatic fantasy, he noticed Melvina's seductive eyes staring into his own. "Tisane, can I ask you a question?" She asked strangely. "Uh...." Tisane was still trying to get his thoughts straight as he slowly nodded. "Do I look cheap to you?" Came the next question. "Huh?" Tisane cocked his head confusingly. "I said do I look cheap to you?" This time she asked with seriousness in her eyes. "N-no you don't" Tisane shook his head awkwardly. "You really think so?" She pressed further. "Yes I do" This time, Tisane affirmed vigorously. For a moment they were both silent as they quietly stared in each other
~CRASH!!~ "Whoa!!!" Around half of the guys in the parlor exclaimed in surprise as Bayo fell and shattered the glass table to pieces. After the exclamation, silence descended in the room. 'What just happened?' 'Did he just punch him in the face?' Everyone had questions popping up in their minds as to why Bayo was sprawled across shattered glass and Tisane was standing over him seething in anger. "You bastard!!" Tisane's voice roared across the parlor. "See what you've done?!" Tisane's countenance and expression was totally different from his normal gentle nature which shocked everyone. "Tisane, what the hell man?" Ibrahim came forward to assist the staggering Bayo to his feet. Tisane was not a guy of many words. After glancing around the room and seeing the shocked eyes staring at him, he hissed in anger and walked away. ------------------------------------ "Hey Bayo, what just happened. Why did Tisane go berserk just now?" Tunde asked Bayo as they assisted to attend to
"Good evening sir" Tisane bowed in greeting. "Good evening my boy. Nice of you to accept my invitation" Mr Fadeyemi smiled as he sat down while staring at Tisane. 'I am standing before the one and only Mr Fadeyemi!' Tisane could feel his heart beat kick up a notch. Sensing his nervousness, Mr Fadeyemi gestured with his hands. "Be at ease boy. Have a seat, by the way what do you drink, scotch or wine?" "Am okay sir" Tisane quickly said. "Come on, you can't have a good conversation without a drink" Mr Fadeyemi cajoled. "O-okay sir, water would be fine" "Still trying to be modest are we?" Mr Fadeyemi shook his head as he gave the attendant the order. "So what do you think?" Mr Fadeyemi spread his arms. "Of what sir?" "Of this place" "Oh, it's magnificent and beautiful sir" "Exactly" Mr Fadeyemi stated. "Magnificence and beauty are all we should aim for. They are the sole rewards of our hard work and success" Tisane watched Mr Fadeyemi moved his arms in confident ge
