Even if I could run fast now, the beasts would definitely catch me before I got to the group. I thought I would really die now. I've nearly died several times lately, maybe this time it will actually happen.
However, before I could blink my eyes, I saw a spear fly past me, narrowly escaping my left cheek. The spear hit the beast right in the heart, pinning it to the ground.
I just realized that the beast that attacked me was some kind of giant wild boar. It was the lowest among the kinds of beasts that dwelt in the wild. Even though this beast was the weakest, I would still die if the spear didn't fly in time.
I'm still shaking when someone comes toward me. The man had come to retrieve his spear. I recognized him based on Rex's memory. This man who saved me was the Totem Warrior who used to be a friend of Rex's father. Several times he has helped Rex in difficult times. His name is Bil Iris.
He looked at me with his bright green eyes. His skin is brown from sunburn. He was tall and well-built, like any experienced Totem Warrior.
I was still in shock and my breathing was erratic, but I knew I had to thank my savior. I didn't know what to say so I decided to bow before him.
“You better catch up with the group. If you fall behind again, you better bury yourself for good," he said in a cold tone.
I can't even answer. My whole body still feels shaky and cold.
“Clean and pack the meat. That will be our dinner," he said again.
I nodded. Together with the rest of the Logistics Team, I cleaned the boar-like beast and put the meat in a sack ready to be taken out for dinner.
We resumed our journey soon after. Many eyes stared at me sarcastically. I knew they were pissed off because I was nearly left behind. I started to think that they actually want to left me behind. However, I still try my best to catch up with the group.
My guess was right because a minute later, faintly, I heard the conversation of the Totem Warrior who was at the forefront of the line. I recognized that man. He was big, with long hair braided at the back of his head. His name is Rais Musi, one of the powerful Totem Warriors. He did not like Rex, it was clear.
“You shouldn't have saved that child. You're just slowing us down, Bil," he said to Bil Iris.
"What do you mean, Rais? We can't just leave him like that. He’s part of this group," answered Bill.
“That weak child is useless. He was just like his father who was a traitor. We shouldn't slow down just because of him. Letting him die would be much better. Besides, the day will soon turn dark, if we don't get to the shelter before then, even we warriors cannot stand the risk," he said again.
“He would have caught up with the group if only that beast–”
“Enough! I don't want to hear this quarrel anymore. We have to continue our journey,” said the Lead Warrior who suddenly stopped their debate.
They both fell silent. I could see Rais glancing at me with a cynical look before he finally faced forward and continued on his journey quickly. Bil also glanced at me coldly, as if warning me that next time, he would really left me behind.
I looked up at the sky and the sun was already leaning toward the West. If night falls and we haven't arrived at the shelter, I would feel really bad for my group. Worry started to take over my feelings. I just hope the location of the shelter is not far from here.
While walking, I try not to look around too much. I just look ahead, where my feet are going, so I won't be left behind again. I was not used to being in such a small body, but now I'm getting used to it.
While walking, I thought about how I suddenly got energized when I fell down just now. The energy was clearly emanating from the golden tree tattoo on the back of my hand. The tattoo definitely benefits me in this strange world.
I didn't want to be left out of the crowd, but I couldn't stop thinking about that golden tree tattoo that might come in handy at a critical moment, so I tried to focus myself and looked at the tattoo. The tattoo looked as usual, evident on the back of my hand. However, something was different this time. The light from the tattoo dimmed a bit and it made me frown.
“Rex! Move quickly! Don't daydream, you don't want to be left behind again!” Rea shouted warning me.
I quickly nodded and quickened my pace as the group now started moving faster. The sun was sinking and I knew they were going to speed up even more. My little feet and shoulders started to hurt again, but I ignored it as much as I could.
However, my curiosity still tickled. Quietly running with the group, I focused myself and saw the golden tree again floating in front of me. It was still the same as when I looked at the tatoo at my forehand. The light of the golden tree wasn't as bright as before. I thought about it over again.
Is it possible that the light has something to do with some kind of power storage? Maybe last night's disgusting stew was able to add and store some power in it, fortunately. And now that I used it’s power when I fell just now, the light has dimmed. Maybe I should replenish the power of this golden tree with food later. I decided to check on it again after we reach the shelter.
I looked up at the sky again and I was totally dreadful. The sun was really getting down and the yellow light had almost turned orange. What if it turns dark and we haven't reached the shelter yet?
I ran faster, so did my group. We could already saw the shelter in front of us, not far away. I smiled because we would finally be safe and reach the shelter before it got dark. However, my smile was like a lamp that suddenly dimmed when I heard the faint sound of something buzzing and very disturbing. A few moments later, I saw a mosquito the size of a hen, just like the mosquito I had seen earlier in the forest. There was only one mosquito, but it gave me bad thoughts. What if the mosquito turns out to bring the swarm? That would be terrible.A second later, I regretted my bad thoughts because I heard an increasingly loud hum from behind the trees. A few more mosquitoes came closer. I even saw the Totem Warriors at the front starting to panic."Faster!" exclaimed our leader. The flaming torch was burning brightly to keep the mosquitoes away, but a second later my eyes widened to see a swarm of mosquitoes coming towards us. From a distance, I thought it was a flock of migratory birds
Noe closed his eyes as if he was preparing to face death. I then did the same thing, but what flashed in my brain was the golden tree. Suddenly, a golden light appeared and chased the mosquitoes away. A second later, I realized that the light was coming out of my body. More precisely, from the golden tree tattoo on the back of my hand.I widened my eyes, and so did Noe. I wish Noe didn't realize what was going on, but that's impossible. The mosquitoes left us but I was very scared. What if someone other than Noe saw all this? What if Noe told someone else? I don't know exactly about the golden tree tattoo yet, I'm afraid that if others find out about its magic, I will be in danger. My mouth dropped open, not because I was scared, but because I was about to say something to Noe. However, an instant later, I felt my energy being drained away, just as the light coming out of the golden tree tattoo disappeared. It seemed the light only shone for a few seconds, enough to drive away the mos
I sat while looking around. This shelter was made like a large dome of stacked stones. There were two gates, on the front and back, made of thick and strong wood. Inside were many tents prepared for sleeping, while in the middle was where people gathered to eat or to sharpen weapons.I deliberately waited a few minutes after Noe left me, pretending to be warming myself by the fire. I didn't want to seem close to anyone, I believe Noe thought the same. After that, I returned to the camp reserved for the boys from the logistics team. When I arrived, all the children were already lying in their places and some were fast asleep. Today was tiring. I saw that Noe was already lying in the corner and it looked like he had started to fall asleep. I chose one of the empty spots and lay down there.I couldn't fall asleep right away, not because of the snoring from the boy next to me, but because my mind was full of the things that had just happened. Noe's words were ringing in my ears that tomor
“Hello!” I shouted.I knew it was stupid, but I didn't know what to do anymore. My heart rate was literally soaring to the sky right now and my little voice sounded hoarse when I called out. I looked around in panic. My group wasn't there and I don't know where they went. It was so dark because of the denseness of the trees, I barely saw anything. I spread my hands forward so I won’t hit a tree.“Shit!” I shouted again.I knew that my grunts and screams might attract the dangerous creatures in the forest, but I couldn't help it. My group left me, even though I've been trying as fast as possible to get back. They couldn't be far. I have to find them.In a hurry, I tried to find traces on the ground. I'm not very good at it, but I hope Rex can. Unfortunately, Rex also didn't have enough knowledge to read the tracks on the ground. I wanted to swear again, but I held it in. In a hurry, I chose one of the paths that I think looks wider and the trees are more spread out. Maybe it led back t
I watched the three tigers stare at me unblinkingly. Rex Hito's body may be too small to feed the three giant tigers, but maybe it's much better than nothing. I can slowly guess that these three tigers haven't found food for quite a long. They were so hungry and couldn't wait to rip Rex's little body apart. Unfortunately, I will also feel pain when Rex's body is torn apart. The three tigers growled and somehow, I was able to predict their next move. A second later, my guess was confirmed, they lunged at me simultaneously. I took a step back so that the tiger on my left collided head-on with the tiger on my right. However, there is still one tiger that is now jumping right at me.Frantically, I searched for whatever was on the ground. My little hand found a stick. There wasn't enough time to think, so I pointed the stick at the tiger charging toward me. The little stick was now burning with fire and stabbed the tiger right in the neck. I didn't have time to think about how that could h
I ate more meat than I thought could fit in Rex's small stomach until I felt very full. I did all that because I was afraid that if my strength wasn't fully charged, then I would be very powerless. After that, I decided to take some of the meat I hunted into my equipment sack. With great difficulty, I skinned and cleaned the tiger's flesh. Occasionally I coughed because my breath was not as relieved as usual. However, I managed to do it and put it in the sack I brought with me. I tied it up and put it right beside me. The large tree trunk that feels damp is my place to lean on and rest tonight. Rex's small body felt so weak even though the golden tree's strength was fully charged. When I glanced at the back of my left hand, I could see the light was so bright. However, right now it seems pointless. The sky was still dark and the moon was still up in the sky beautifully. The red moon and bloody marks will still be in the sky for several more hours. I kept wondering when morning would
That beast seemed dissatisfied with just wrapping around my body as tightly as it could. Now with the help of four clawed legs, it makes my body roll around. The more I rolled around, I felt my body getting more painful. It did it not just for fun torturing its prey, but to make my body break down much faster. I won't be able to survive this condition. As I rolled over, I realized that the snake was rolling me over my burning bonfire. At first glance, I could see slime between the embers, and through Rex's memory, I knew it was this beast that put out my bonfire. This giant-legged snake is one of the highly intelligent beasts. He is so smart that he is able to calculate what he will do to attack me with very little chance of failure. This snake must have been attracted by the fire I lit. He knew when there is fire, there are people. However, it is not a creature that dares to face fire, even though its hard and thick scales are not affected by the hot coals. Because of that, I guessed
I saw from afar two pairs of eyes stalking me behind the trees as I ran to the shelter. The road to the shelter is wide open grass so it is quite safe unless there are flying animals like the mosquitoes yesterday. It's still early today, most likely I can safely get to the shelter. When I was about a few tens of meters from the shelter, the people in the shelter had seen me. I know because there are several windows that open from behind the high walls of the shelter's dome. They must have known I was approaching. They were just getting ready to set off on the hunt today. I wanted to scream for help, for someone to pick me up with a flaming torch, but I discouraged myself. Not because I'm too proud to do it, but because I'm sure no one will help me. I was on my own.I actually saw something flying towards me. I didn't know what it was, because I didn't dare look anywhere. I focused myself on running as fast as I could until my lungs felt like they were going to explode. I saw several p
The light of the full moon envelops the room with a magical glow, creating a magical and serene atmosphere. Moonlight gently kissed Nola's face which was tense with pain. I stood by her side, my right hand holding hers tightly, conveying warmth and strength from every touch. But the healers want me outside, so I have to go out.“Arghhh!! It hurts!" she cried, the sound of the night's silence interrupted by a cry of pain. The healers forbade me from entering the room, and I could only hear moans and screams from behind the door. Anxiety swept through my heart, I couldn't wait to hear news about Nola's condition.Suddenly, a healer came out of the room and approached me.“My King, you can come in and accompany the Queen,” he said to me.I went into the room and held Nola's hand. Nola held my hand tightly, her eyes staring at the ceiling of the room filled with darkness. Deep moans escaped her lips every time a contraction hit. The light of the full moon, even though it couldn't enter th
That morning, the sunlight played games with the leaves, creating a magical blend of shade and golden glow. The fresh scent of flowers and herbs wafts in the clean air. It was as if nature itself was participating in celebrating this historic moment. The once simple assembly hall now sparkles in the splendor of natural jewels. Folded flags made of silk fluttered brilliantly, and decorations made from dried leaves and fresh flowers decorated every corner of the room. The light from the shining totems reflected the colors of life, implying a new awakening of their power.A moment before the sunlight reached its peak, I came to Nola who was getting ready in the preparation room. The soft light from the crystal chandelier reflected a beautiful glow on her dress made from natural materials, giving her an aura of stunning elegance. When she turned around to see me, her sweet smile filled the room. "Ares," she said in a soft voice that seemed to wash away my nervousness. "You shouldn't have
In an increasingly debilitating state, my voice broke in the reflection of the vibrations of light around us. Light flashed, creating an invisible yet powerful energy network. "I won't give up, even though my body feels increasingly fragile. I won't let you be trapped in this darkness, Nola," I said with trembling determination. The words seemed to be a mantra, strengthening my will even when my body could barely support itself. The Shadow Diamond Totem, glowing with fading black light, spoke in a voice filled with urgency. "Ares Jones, we don't have much time. We have to hurry. Nola needs us.""The Grand Healing Totem's light is starting to fade," she added, her voice filled with determination but sounding fragile. "We have very limited time, Ares Jones."Deep anxiety welled up within me, making me realize that not only these totems were on the verge of destruction, but also Nola and my own life. However, I knew I couldn't give up. It is my mission to reunite Nola's divided soul. Des
The dream just disappeared, fading into endless darkness, and Nola seemed to disappear from my field of vision. I remained asleep, without dreams or images haunting my mind. My body responded deeply to rest, immersing me in an undefined dream world. Abstract images awaken and disappear over an immeasurable span of time. Nola, as if closely linked to the dream world, moved far from the horizon of my mind, disappearing in the surrounding darkness. As morning approached, the sun's rays seeped in through the thin curtains, painting streaks of light on the walls of the tent. I woke up slowly, thrown back into the real world. Rex stood tall by Nola's side, his eyes reflecting a deep worry, hinting at thoughts hovering over the worst possible possibilities."How is she doing, Rex?" I said in a voice that was still hoarse, following the footsteps of the dreamland I had just grasped.Rex looked at me sincerely, his eyes filled with deep worry. “She is still in a weak state; there are no signi
The aroma of spices and herbs filled the air when my eyes opened. My body felt heavy as if all my energy had been drained. Gathering the power to repair The Shadow Diamond Totem was indeed a tiring task.Beside me, Mora stood with a concerned look. "Ares, you are lucky to have survived. But don't underestimate your strength. Don't forget your own limits," he said in a soft voice, hand holding out a healing potion. It tastes bitter but immediately brings freshness to my body."Thank you, Mora. It feels like I was born again," I said with a faint smile.Mora smiled softly. "You will be fine, Ares. The entire tribe is grateful for your sacrifice," she said, her eyes shining with respect."Where is The Shadow Diamond Totem?" I demanded, my curiosity peaked.Mora looked at me warmly. "She is resting in the Shadow Totem Tribe's temple. She needs time to recover her strength from all this."She went to tell the others that I had woken up. Not long after, Toth Karan and the totem warriors ent
In the chaotic battlefield, with magic explosions and echoing groans, I stood before The Shadow Diamond Totem who kept screaming. Her body swayed, trying to break free from the totem warrior's bindings, but her strength only depleted further.I realized that in a state like this, where she was still conscious and twitching wildly, it was very difficult for me to repair her totem codes. My concentration must be stronger than before. However, I can't watch her continue to suffer like this."Get some more blood, we need her weaker!" I ordered several nearby totem warriors. They responded swiftly, opening buckets of blood and meticulously watering The Shadow Diamond Totem. Every drop of blood entered her body, producing the desired effect. However, the woman's desperate screams still roared, filling the battlefield. Bil, with tense eyes, found his courage. "She has to pass out, Ares. We need you completely focused," he said, trying to calm himself and decide on that bold move. I nodded fi
All the totem warriors, men and women who dared to face this darkness, had positioned themselves behind a tight wall of protection. Their eyes were full of determination and firmness as they waited for his next order. The air was thick with tension, and only the sound of the gentle breeze blowing through the leaves could be heard.Only I dared to stand in the middle of the open field, in front of The Shadow Diamond Totem that was almost formed. Swirls of wind and black smoke surrounded him, creating an extremely frightening effect, as if he was the dark embodiment of the subconscious.I was tireless, even though every fiber of my muscle felt tense, and my breath came in short gasps. With strong will, I transferred energy from myself to The Shadow Diamond Totem, seeking to fill the void within him with light and goodness. However, the longer I used my energy, the more tired I became. As weakness began to creep in, I could no longer hold back the cry of exhaustion. "Ahhh!" my cry trembl
The three of us called all the tribe leaders for a meeting at the meeting camp. Tough and cool-headed steps are the price that must be paid to save Nola. Moonlight radiated softly in the night sky, giving this gathering a sacred feel.Toth Karan sat with a serious attitude, his deep eyes filled with deep worry. Rex, with his might, gave off an aura of confidence in every word he spoke. I, trying to hold tightly to my anxious heart, stood in front of the leaders who looked at me with hope."Leaders, we have important news we need to convey," I said in a calm but authoritative voice. "I have found information in the Totem Code Book that can help us save Nola and return the Shadow Diamond Totem to its original state."Mora looked at me curiously. "Original state? What do you mean Ares?"“In the past, this totem was a source of goodness for this tribe. However, there was damage that caused the totem code to have problems. "If we can fix it, the totem will return to being a source of goodn
After eating the beast meat provided by Toth Karan, the feeling of fatigue in my body began to recede. New energy flowed through me, reigniting my enthusiasm to complete this mission."Thank you, Toth Karan. This meat really helps me," I said gratefully to Toth Karan.Toth Karan nodded with a warm smile. "That's good to hear, leader. Is there anything else I can do for you?"I thought for a moment, then finally decided. "Toth Karan, I need some time alone. Can you leave me here so I can concentrate?"Toth Karan nodded in understanding. "Of course, Ares. I'll leave you alone. If you need me again, I'll be in my cabin."After Toth Karan left, I returned to focusing on the thick book open in front of me. Carefully, I touched the surface and started reading again with full concentration. As I delved deeper into the contents of the book, my spiritual eyes began to drift over the pages filled with runic writings and symbols. I began to feel the energy of the totem code book itself radiating
