Becoming a Ghost

However, I also saw Nola, still standing where she was with tears streaming down her cheeks. I tried to smile, but I couldn't tell if my face looked like it was smiling or not because my whole body went numb. I can't hear anything anymore. I'm grateful that at a time like this I can see Nola's face, even though she's crying next to me.

"I love you," I said in a weak voice as I felt my consciousness begin to fade. I don't know if Nola heard my words or not, but she seemed to have heard them, because she was crying so hard. I couldn't hear what she was saying, because a second later, I had closed my eyes and darkness enveloped me.

When my eyes finally opened, I felt the glare of the lantern illuminating the room. It was a very strange feeling after being stuck in the dark for so long. I was in a serene-looking room, with pure white walls and large windows that let in soft sunlight.
