In the story, Faust was swallowed by the illusion though it didn’t hurt him physically. The illusion enhances the feeling of ‘regret’. Unlike the first trial, a made-up story, the second trial is about looking back at the past. The person who will be under this trial remembers… will be shown every event in his life and every ‘regret’ in that scenario.
