03. Dream Nebula

"I have to go gardening in a while, if you have anything you need, you can come to my house and tell uncle Leo what you need. He's at home right now, looks like he got fired from his job again. Haih, what should I do with him? He's 30 years old and still doesn't have a steady job..." Owen massaged his forehead as he thought of his youngest son, Leo.

From what 'Reynard' remembered, Leo was a good uncle but he was not a good son in Owen's eyes. He himself did not know how, but it was not uncommon for Leo to contradict Owen's words and do all the things he wanted without thinking about Owen.

"But uncle Leo is good to me, I'm sure he'll get a job soon..." Little Reynard rubbed Owen's hair back, an action Owen had done to him earlier.

Owen smiled in response, he nodded his head, "I hope so too, I want him to be able to take care of himself in my absence..."

Reynard had a look of astonishment on his cute face, "eum? Where are you going?" he asked. His childlike instincts could not be hidden even though his soul was 21 years old.

This time Owen shook his head, "no, we never know what the future holds. Being independent is something everyone should do, one cannot depend on others forever."

"I think you're wrong, humans have to depend on each other. Just like you buy clothes made by tailors, or cook rice from farmers..." his 21-year-old soul instinct unconsciously came out stronger, making him sound wiser than other kids his age.

After saying that, Reynard knew he had made a mistake. He could only grimace softly, hopefully Owen's grandfather wouldn't think anything strange after hearing his words.

Owen on the other hand was stunned as soon as he heard Reynard's words, who would have thought that a little boy who used to have a mental disorder would suddenly turn into a child who could utter a series of wise words?

But Owen didn't think too much about it, maybe this was a good thing because Reynard already looked like a normal child. He could be calmer seeing this change in Reynard's demeanor in front of him, some of the invisible weight on both of his shoulders was starting to ease a little, judging by how straight he stood.

"I don't know where you heard that line, but you have a point. Never mind, you can eat your breakfast now, I'm going west to do some gardening..." Owen said before leaving leaving Reynard alone in the dining room.

As the sun was getting higher, and as the temperature was getting hotter, at the same time, Reynard was busy with his own activities in his house. He was holding a wet cloth in his hand, while his left hand wiped the sweat from his forehead.

"Finally now that this place looks more like a home, I'm completely exhausted despite only doing a few chores. I didn't notice before, but a child's stamina is very limited..." He said as he sat limply on the floor.

The condition of the house was much better than before, there was no dust accumulation or insect nests in the house anymore. Some items were back in their original places, while the piles of garbage had been thrown into the trash. The atmosphere in the house was no longer so gloomy.

"I don't have time to relax, I need to understand what's really happening to me..." His little face wore a serious expression, seemingly in stark contrast to his adorable face.

Reynard tried to solve the mystery of his transmigration, but unfortunately no matter how hard he thought about it, he could not find the exact reason behind his transmigration other than his suicide.

"From the memories of the owner of this body, the Isekai world I'm in now is the Viryon Continent, one of the three continents on the Satar Star. Actually, the structure of this planet is the same as Earth, except that there are many anomalies that I have never heard of before but are so common in this world..."

Magic.

What makes Satar's star special is that there is magic in it. Unlike Earth, which relies on technological advancements to thrive, Satar's star believes that magic is everything. That was also the reason why discrimination against ordinary people was often heard in this world.

In a world that only adheres to magic, believing that power is everything. Without realizing it, the law of the jungle becomes commonplace in Satar's star, the weak will be preyed upon by the strong. Justice was in the hands of those with power, those who were weak could only accept their fate as weaklings and die as weaklings as well.

"This is exactly like the Isekai world I read about from manga, where the main character would transmigrate to the magic world and become an OP character! Wait, doesn't that mean I'm the main character and get amazing powers?!" This was unthinkable, being the main character of a heroic story that parents used to tell their children before bedtime.

"Then what are my abilities? Ah, maybe I'll find out after some experiments!"

If one needed a dose of cuteness in their life, perhaps they could come to one of the simple houses located in the Oshley village and see the adorable antics of the little ones inside.

The curiosity coupled with the cute behavior made some of the villagers who saw it scream in distress, trying to restrain themselves from kidnapping the little boy who was 'playing' alone in his yard.

"Oh my, is he the same Reynard as the previous Reynard? Why does he look so adorable?!"

"Oh no, my maternal soul is screaming to make him my adopted son!"

"Look at that cute expression, if someone asked me if I could trade my son for Reynard, I'd probably really trade him!"

"Honey, do you intend to have another child? Maybe an adopted child wouldn't be so bad."

Reynard on the other hand had no idea that his attempt to find his 'ability' was inviting reactions from the villagers of Oshley. "Damn it! What exactly are my abilities? I can't disappear, run at lightning speed, or even fly like a Phoenix bird. Ah, maybe my abilities are related to animals?"

He wandered around, looking for animals or insects that he could 'talk' to. "Ah, there you are!" Reynard approached the ants who were lined up to carry the dead insects to their nest.

"Hey, ants, can you hear me? Then tell me, am I handsome?"

Ant: "..."

Reynard: "It turns out you know I'm handsome, thank you."

Ant: 'What's wrong with this crazy human?

Everything Reynard did attracted the attention of the villagers passing by his yard. It was quite natural considering Reynard was adorable and everyone in Oshley knew Reynard would be a handsome man in the future seeing how adorable he was now.

After a day of trying to figure out what his transmigration-induced abilities were, Reynard finally figured out that he was not at all endowed with abilities like the main characters in the Isekai novels he used to read on Earth.

Little Reynard laid his tiny body down on the grass in front of his yard, his golden eyes gazing up at the blue sky that looked so beautiful, in stark contrast to his mood.

"I've never been lucky, but I didn't expect to be this social. What should a 7-year-old child do all by himself? Couldn't heaven transfer my soul to a more mature person, I could at least work and find other activities that could make money and then become filthy rich. A 7-year-old child who is still a teenager? Haih, how unlucky my life is," he complained, ending with a heavy sigh coming out of his mouth.

Sleepiness suddenly attacked him, perhaps he was exhausted after working hard to clean the house with his small body. In the end the little man closed his eyes while enjoying the breeze that felt so cool.

***

'Where am I?' there was only endless darkness in front of him, Reynard was confused, not knowing what else was happening to him.

'Am I dreaming? But why does it feel so real?' Reynard wanted to speak, but his mouth was locked, all he could do was look carefully at his surroundings even though there was only empty space as far as the eye could see.

After a while, he finally calmed down. He walked without direction, letting his feet lead him to a place he had no idea where he was going.

His footsteps stopped once he saw the silhouette of a woman standing not far from him. Reynard raised his eyebrows, he walked over to the woman. He tugged lightly at her clothes, trying to get her to look at him.

The woman turned around, looking back at Reynard with a sweet smile on her face. "It was you who got lost in the Dream Nebula dimension."

'Dream Nebula?' Reynard's eyebrows once again rose, not understanding what the woman in front of him was saying, but he had to admit he was fascinated by the beauty of the woman in front of him.

"You must be wondering what the Dream Nebula is, you'll find out in a moment..." The woman waved her hand, suddenly there was a projection screen in front of him, displaying a record of Reynard's life on Earth and little 'Reynard' in Oshley village.

Reynard was surprised to see it, he stared at the woman beside him and the projector screen in front of him while wearing a curious look on his face.

"The Dream Nebula is a place that can only be visited by those whose souls are lost in the bodies of others. Mistakes like this usually only happen when the path to the afterlife is under maintenance. Unfortunately, you committed suicide back then and ended up in the body of a child who had a similar fate to you. I am the Goddess of Heaven, the being in charge when such a mistake occurs. Now I would like to ask you, are you willing to follow me into the afterlife or stay alive as Reynard Fillmore on Satar Star? The decision is yours."
