Chapter 175: "Freedom of the scum"

Drake seethed with self-directed anger, more furious at himself than at the revelation of Eleanor and Lucille talking behind his back. He scrolled through Eleanor's phone, his hands trembling as it revealed Lucille living a seemingly content life without him.

"What did I do wrong?" he mused aloud, his voice laced with frustration.

"Why ask me? You must have done something more than just a simple misunderstanding," Eleanor retorted, snatching the phone from his grasp. "So, what are you going to do?"

"What else?" Drake responded, his tone exasperated. He surveyed his room, cluttered with games, action figures, Legos, and toys—his refuge during the three years of solitude. Not a day passed without worry and longing for Lucille, and it was his games that provided solace amidst the frustration and hopelessness of her absence. Doubt crept in again as he questioned his ability to find her, wondering if she was deliberately evading him because she loathed him.
