Chapter 8

Dr. O’Donnell was infuriated by Mr. Lampton’s reaction. As more sweat continued to team up on his forehead, he wanted to demand why Mr. Lampton struck him but then he made a quick analysis of the situation at hand. He realized that he was standing before the Almighty William Turner and only a fool would disagree with such a man so the doctor simply sighed and looked away with his bowels heating up with rage.

Mr. Lampton then cleaned his forehead with the edge of his palm and turned toward William after heaving a sigh. His lips parted and just when he was about to mumble an apology, William stopped him short with a half-smile.

“That’s okay,” William said and waved his hand down, motioning to Mr. Lampton to ignore the doctor.

Meanwhile, Dr. O’Donnell was still holding onto the conviction that fried Cicada was not an option because as far as he was concerned, the cicada Alex was proposing was in no way related to the ailment at hand but he chose to stay quiet or might get hit again.

He then moved to one of the empty sofas in the room and cashed there with his arms folded across his chest like a pompous child. He concluded that they could go ahead and offer the fried cicada to Diana. He was very confident that they were going to seek his intervention once the concussion backfired.

A few minutes later, the maiden that left to get the Cicada walked into the room with a platter. She presented it to Alex who quickly uncovered the plate.

He placed it on the bed beside Dianna and continued to roll up his sleeves while the Lamptons watched.

“It will work,” William stated confidently after Mrs. Lampton shot Alex an insecure look.

While his spectators watched keenly, Alex picked a piece of Cicada from the plate and stationed it close to Dianna’s left nostril after ensuring she remained on her back.

“What is he doing?”

No one responded to Mrs. Lampton.

“Hold still,” Alex told Dianna, ensuring that the piece of Cicada was stationed right where he wanted it.

To everyone’s amazement, the color drained from Dianna’s face after Alex moved away.  Just when her mother was about to raise an alarm, Dianna gasped and opened her mouth, her eyes widened in horror.

Dr. O’Donnell cracked a dry smile. “I told you guys that this man is crazy. He’s going to kill her.” He muttered under his breath.

Suddenly, an insect, similar to a bug crawled out of Dianna’s left nostril, causing everyone to gasp in shock.

“What the fuck?” William cried out.

Alex expertly dragged the cicada away from Dianna’s nostril and with every step his hand took, the strange insect moved toward it.

He carefully led the insect toward the bed and down to the floor while everyone watched and immediately after it hit the floor, Alex kicked the insect with his leg. It hit the wall and died.

Dianna sprang up.

While they were all contemplating how the insect ended up inside her, color returned to Dianna’s face. She shut her eyes and then opened them almost immediately.

“She’s awake!” Mr. Lampton cried out and rushed toward Dianna.

On her part, Dianna could feel energy coursing through her veins. She exhaled sharply and quickly moved to the wall.

“I feel...so good!” She felt it unbelievable, she suffered for several days from this strange illness, but now she recovered within 10 minutes!

The Lamptons were stunned by the testimony because Dianna could barely cough out loud since the incident and now, she was on her feet, speaking.

“How is this possible?” Dr. O’Donnell marveled with his hands on his hips.

William on the other hand was not moved because he had faith in Alex. He simply walked up to Dianna. “Are you good?”

She moved away from the wall and began to stretch. “I feel great. What was that?” she turned to Alex.

“An evil insect.” Alex spat.

“Evil insect?” asked a shocked Dr. O’Donnell.

Alex sighed and walked up to the spot where the dead insect lay. He studied it and looked up at the Lamptons.

“This insect was generated by an evil curse.” Alex began.

They were all paying keen attention, especially Dr. O’Donnell.

Alex continued. “The thing is, such insects are mostly used to place an evil curse on people to prevent them from functioning as they should. Dianna is a star so there’s no denying that she has lots of rivals out there. I’m sure someone used the insect on her so she could lose her voice.”

The Lamptons were rendered speechless.

“I don’t get this. How did it get into her system? Do you mean she has been living with it for all these hours and I couldn’t detect it?” Dr. O’Donnell asked.

Alex walked up to him and looked him straight in the face. “The last time I checked, you didn’t believe in my prescriptions there’s no point explaining things to you.”

Dr. O’Donnell turned away.

Alex turned to the Lamptons. “You guys don’t have to worry about a thing. The curse is broken since the insect was dragged out and killed so your daughter is safe.”

They both sighed in relief.

William began to rub his hands against each other vigorously. “I told you guys not to bother. I did mention that Alex was going to save her so here we are.”

Mrs. Lampton walked up to Alex with her lashes flickering. “I’m grateful to you for saving my daughter.”

Dianna stepped up and stood before Alex with a broad smile. She stared at the dead insect and darted her gaze back to Alex. “I don’t even want to imagine how that thing got into me but one thing I’m grateful for is the fact that you saved me.”

“You’re welcome.”

William struck his palms against each other. “So now that Dianna is back on her feet, I suggest she turns up for the party tonight.”

Dianna raised an index finger. “The white Moon Company party right? I learned the event is happening tonight. I got an invitation.”

Alex smiled.
