Chapter 1 - Saving Mia

Jeremy brought out his phone from his pocket, seeing it was his wife that was calling he answered the call immediately.

Jeremy heart skipped, as the words from his wife made his entire body vibrated.

"Our daughter was involved in an accident and she's being rushed to the hospital." His hands shook as he dropped the phone, stumbling out of the delivery truck. His heart was pounding, his mind a whirl of thoughts.

With his mind only focused on his daughter's safety, he hailed a taxi, jumping in as soon as it pulled up. As the taxi sped toward the hospital, He gripped the sides of the seat, trying to control his breathing as the fear for his daughter's life consumed him. The minutes felt like hours as they drew closer to the hospital.

Jeremy stepped out of the taxi, barely remembering to pay the driver as he rushed into the hospital.

Jeremy's voice trembled as he spoke to the nurse at the front desk. "My daughter was brought in here, her name is Mia Hamilton. She's eight years old," he said, his distress evident in every word.

The nurse looked up at him, compassion in her eyes. "Please wait here, I'll check to see where she is," she said, her voice gentle. A moment later, she directed him to the emergency ward, pointing him down the hallway.

Without bothering to knock, Jeremy pushed open the door of the emergency ward, scanning the room for any sign of his daughter. His heart sank as he spotted her bed, his little girl lying there so small and vulnerable. A bandage was wrapped around her head, and an IV drip was fixed to her arm. His wife, Avery, sat by her side, her eyes red and swollen from crying. She rose to meet him, wrapping her arms around him in a desperate embrace.

"How is she?" he asked, his voice breaking. Avery swallowed hard, her own emotions threatening to spill over.

"The doctor said she's stable," she replied, her voice wavering. "She has a severe concussion, but they don't think there's any brain damage."

"Thank God," Jeremy whispered, his hand finding Avery's as they both stared at their daughter, their eyes fixed on the slow rise and fall of her chest.

"Do you think she'll be okay?" Jeremy asked, his voice filled with uncertainty. Avery squeezed his hand, trying to offer him some comfort.

"The doctors seem to think so," she said. "They said she's a tough little girl," Avery continued, a small smile forming on her lips as she thought of her daughter's fierce spirit.

"She'll be back to her usual self in no time, I'm sure." Jeremy nodded, but he couldn't quite bring himself to believe it. Not until he saw his daughter's eyes open, her smile brightening the room.

And then, as if on cue, Mia stirred. Her eyes fluttered open, and she looked around the room, taking in her surroundings.

"Mommy? Daddy?" she said, her voice quiet but clear. Avery and Jeremy rushed to her bedside.

"Oh, baby girl!" Avery exclaimed, her eyes brimming with tears of relief and joy. "We're so glad you're okay," she said, her voice thick with emotion. Jeremy joined them, wrapping his arms around both of them.

"You gave us quite a scare, kiddo," he said, his voice shaking.

Mia looked up at them, with her innocent smile. "I had a bad dream. I'm scared," she said, her voice still quiet.

"Mia, you are safe and sound," Avery said, her voice calm and reassuring. "It was just a bad dream. There's no need to worry."

Mia looked up at her parents, a small smile on her face. "But I don't want to die," she said, her voice breaking. "I want to live and take care of my future siblings, like I promised."

"Oh, sweetheart," Avery said, her heart breaking at her daughter's words.

"You won't die, I promise. And even if you ever feel scared or worried, We'll always be here for you," Jeremy added, his voice full of love and reassurance. "We're not going anywhere. We'll always be right here with you."

Mia nodded, her eyes starting to well up with tears. "I love you, Mommy and Daddy," she said, her voice soft and hoarse. "I don't want anything bad to happen to you."

Avery's heart melted as she looked at her daughter, so small and vulnerable. "We love you too, Mia," she said, her own eyes filling with tears. "Nothing bad is going to happen to us,"

"Darling. We can't let anything happen to her. We just need to find a way to raise money for her treatment," Avery said with tears rolling down her cheek. Avery knew that her husband's salary was barely enough to cover their basic expenses, let alone the additional costs of Mia's treatment.

"I'll try and get a loan from my company," Jeremy said.

"You know that's not possible. Your boss won't agree to such," Avery said and paused for a while, "Darling. How about you call my grandparents and apologize to them. They would be more than willing to help," Jeremy knew it was a long shot and the last thing he wanted to do was ask lord Raymond and his wife, Avery's grandparent for help. They were among the wealthiest and most influential people in the city, and Avery had been groomed to take her place among them. She was their favored heir, the one they had always expected to carry on their legacy. But when she had chosen to marry Jeremy, someone they considered far beneath her, they had disowned her. They had cut her off financially and emotionally, leaving her to fend for herself.

Even though Jeremy had never told his wife, her grandparents had once offered him a huge sum of money to divorce her and run away with their daughter. They had claimed that Avery was being stubborn. But he could never betray Avery like that, He had made a vow to himself to never ask her grandparents for help, no matter what.

"Babe, please say something," Avery said, her voice cracking. Her eyes were brimming with tears as she pleaded with her husband.

"I'll go and ask them for help," Jeremy said, his voice sounding unconvincing even to his own ears. He knew that there was no way he could bring himself to do such a thing, but he also knew that he had to say something to comfort his wife.

Mia had been a beacon of light in the lives of Jeremy and his wife Avery, her sweet smile and mischievous laugh a source of joy and comfort in their lives. The thought of losing their daughter was unimaginable, and Jeremy could feel his heart breaking at the mere possibility.

With a heavy heart, Jeremy turned and walked out of the hospital, his mind replaying all the happy memories he had shared with Mia. He couldn't bear the thought of losing her, even if it meant sacrificing his principles. She was too precious to him, and he knew he would do anything to protect her. As he reached into his pocket and pulled out his diary, he knew there was only one option left. He took a deep breath, dialing the number he'd never wanted to dial. The phone rang, and someone answered.

"Good day, Young Master," the voice on the other end said. Jeremy didn't return the greeting, instead getting straight to the point.

"I need money," he said, his voice steady but firm.
