Chapter 11

Hearing Gwen’s words, Alex felt Gwen was a fool to say that she doesn’t care about money but rather her looks. According to Alex, looks can fade away but not money. His face turned red with anger. Gwen noticed it, but she pretends that she didn’t notice it.

“Young master, don’t give much attention to her words. She is just stupid to not notice you,” the female secretary of Alex tried to persuade him.

Karina's thoughts, on the other hand, were going in a different direction. Hearing Gwen’s words, Karina was in a moment of shock.

“Did she insult me directly or indirectly or is she saying that I only cared about money rather than caring about his extraordinary looks?” Karina thought to herself. Jer is stopped by Nathan. He is wearing a four-piece suit. with a white turtleneck shirt, a black waisit coat and a suit. His hair is gelled up and combed nicely. His sharp nose and dipped lips, along with his perfectly toned body, make him look extra handsome.

Karina’s heart flustered for a second but she already took the step to divorce him and for now, she can’t regret her own decision.

“You both have been seeing each other for a long time?” Karina questioned them, to which they opted to stay silent.

“Are you mad or what? If a man just wears a suit, it doesn’t mean he can take care of you till the last, and a mere cleaner like Nathan can’t ever do it,” Alex barked at Gwen.

Hearing his words, a coldness splashed through Gwen’s face. She quickly hidden it behind her looks and held Nathan’s arm by tilting her hand on his shoulder. Nathan, who kept his hand in his pocket, was stunned by her act but decided to stay silent and let her carry on with her work.

Seeing her actions, Karina got angry, as Gwen expected.

"Nathan, you dare to see someone on my back. I am sure that you were in a relationship with this girl even before we got divorced. Till this point, somewhere and somehow I am feeling guilty that I took this step. I thought I hurt you and carried the guilt in my heart. However, as you have already been in a relationship with this woman for a long time, I don’t think I need to carry any type of emotion for you anymore. From now on, I mena from this poem; we are complete strangers and I don’t know you nor your weren’t there in my life ever,” Karina sneered.

“Finally, you are in the right direction. It’s good you took this decision. Don’t ever cross my paths again,” Nathan replied coldly, but only Nathan knows how hard it is for him to say those words. It’s not like he doesn’t care about her; he loved her but right now, to keep her safe, that's the only option left for him.

“Oh, thank you, Mrs. Nathan. No, no, Miss. Blackwood. Thank you for letting him go so I can pursue him freely. Thank you for giving him to me,” Gwen thanked Karina, deliberately pressing on Mrs. and Miss.

“I don’t know what you have seen in him. Except for his looks, I haven't seen anything else in him. He is just an ordinary person, and that’s why I left him,” Karina taunted Nathan indirectly.

After listening to her taunt, Gwen didn’t use a single word and just smiled at her.

“If Nathan is just an ordinary person, then Alex is nothing in front of him. In simple words, he is even worse." Gwen taunted Karina and pointed her finger at her selection.

Karina chose to divorce Nathan just for being with Alex, who is nothing but the head of a prominent family.

When Gwen’s taunts reached the ears of Karina, she felt extremely angered and immediately said,

“I am sorry to say but Alex is far, far better than Nathah. He is able to do business and handle an entourage. But what is Nathan capable of? He isn't suitable for anything.”

“Oh, you are so confident about Alex Atwood being far better than Nathan, right? So, let’s have a bet now. From tomorrow in a span of a month, let’s see who will achieve the better results,” Gwen proposed a bet.

“Oh, I don’t want to compete with a mere cleaner. If we have to fight, there must be equal status, and on top of that, when we all know I will win this competition, what’s the use of having a bet again? Isn’t this a waste of time?” Alex sneered.

“Are you scared, Mr. Alex? That’s why you are taking a step back without even taking a step forward." Gwen asked him sarcastically.

Hearing her question, Alex burst into laughter, and by controlling it, he barely said,

“Do you have any hallucinations or daydreaming habits? Why should I get scared of him? No way, I, Alex Atwood, never take a step back from anything or get scared of anyone or anything.”

“Then get ready, Mr. Alex. Don’t ever say or talk less about others capabilities without knowing anything about them,” Gwen snapped at Alex.

Seeing her confidence, Alex felt irritated and annoyed.

“This is the time to show that Nathan is nothing in front of him, and if I win this bet, then she will leave him and come with me,” Alex thought to himself.

“Ok, as you wish. If you want to taste the dish of failure, then why should I say no? I am ready,” Alex said, looking coldly at Nathan. Nathan just glanced at him for a second and averted his gaze.

“He doesn’t know anything about business and Alex knows more about it. I am sure he will lose and remember, the one who loses this bet must agree that they are blind,” Karina alid down her condition in front of them.

“Ok, we are ready. If you lose, you have to apologize to Nathan for today and the insult you have done to him,” Gwen proposed. Listening to her words, Karina glanced in the direction of Nathan, and Nathan too looked at Karina. Their looks locked for a couple of seconds before averting their gazes.

“Ok, I am ready for this, and be prepared to lose this bet." Karina snapped and then turned to her secretary and said,

“Let’s go from here."

The secretary nodded her head and they both went straight to the Smith’s family event. Alex followed her inside.

“Mr. Nathan, are you satisfied with my acting?” Gwen questioned Nathan, who was looking in the direction of Karina. He removed his arm from her grip and just looked at her without replying.

“Even though I don’t want to agree, it's true that she helped me a lot today. Without her knowledge, I wouldn’t know what would have happened. *sigh*,” Nathan sighed to himself.
