Miriam shifted the gears smoothly with efficient grace as she drove out of the parking garage, Ms. Serfa seated comfortably on the driver’s seat.

There was an awkward silence in the air as Miriam drove before she thought that she should lighten up the mood a bit.

“So, Mrs. Serfa, do you have a man? I mean a husband,” she asked, a friendly smile on her face.

“Oh, erm, I used to have a husband but I no longer have, he’s dead,” Ms. Serfa responded.

“Oh, so sorry about that,” Miriam consoled. “That must have been very difficult for you to bear.”

Ms. Serfa paused for a while as if thinking of what to say next before she responded. “No, actually. It was not difficult at all. His death was probably the best thing that happened to me.”
