Chapter6: The poisonous Serpent King I

"You idiot, why did you acted so recklessly, you almost put us in trouble!" Evnor berated.

"Mhhh, if you ask me my princess, we should just get rid of him, he has caused us so much trouble"

"So sorry about that, I didn't mean to put you all in trouble, I just couldn't control myself" Arden remarked, a little unsure of how to put things, but he definitely couldn't tell them about the system's mission.

"young man, were you so anxious because of ranking up" Micrio suddenly said out of nowhere. " I can sense that you're now in Rank four of Celestial Novice"

"What talent, to be able to rank up in the midst of danger" Althev mumbled as he glanced at Arden admirably.

"really, you actually ascended a rank?" Evnor remarked as she now gazed at Arden with glowing eyes.

In the Astro world, Astro mages often had to be in a meditative position in order to ascend into a higher rank, this is due to the fact that Astro mages must entail a clear head to perfectly guide their Astro energy during the asscension.

Astro mages like Arden who could ascend during turbulent times are as rear as dragon and Phoenix and are often regarded as absolute geniuses in the Astro world.

A short moment later, they all looked up at the beacon, feeling a sense of awe. The pillar of light stretched high into the sky, illuminating the forest with its bright glow. it was like a symbol of hope and strength, a beacon of light in a dark and dangerous world.

As they approached the beacon, Arden and the others felt the warmth of the light on their skin. It was a comforting feeling, like being wrapped in a warm blanket on a cold night.

But as soon as they arrived at the base of the pillar of light, the beacon or green light pillar suddenly disappeared.

Arden the others were confused. Were they seeing things? Was this all just a trick of the light? But then he noticed that there was a hole in the ground where the beacon had been.

Arden was thrilled when he accomplished mission and reaped the reward but the sudden disappearance of the beacon and the bolting of the hole beneath it left him feeling somewhat afraid that his work had just begun.

Unfortunately, things where just as he had thought. The voice of the system suddenly rang in his head like hell's messenger.

[ beacon has been dismissed, Poison Stake Mission initiated]

[ Host is to venture into the underground cavern and retrieve a map of the jungle of survival]

[ The time limit for this mission is one week]

[warning, be mindful of the poisonous serpent king]

"poisonous serpent king?" Arden blurted inwardly with a stunned expression. This was the first time in which the system had cautioned him about some thing and out of all things in the world, it had to be a serpent.

Arden had always been terrified of such creatures ever since he was a kid, just the mention of them would send chills down his spine and now he has to face this mysterious serpent king who was classified as dangerous.

"fuck you, this is too much you fucking bastard!"

"I ain't going into any fucking cave to get some stupid map, if you want to? Do it yourself" Arden shouted.

[ Host should enter the cave before the count down of five or host will incur the penalty of getting shredded to pieces by the congressional force]

"what the fuck!" Arden shrieked inwardly. Right after the system finished ringing in his head, he felt his body being suddenly gripped by a mysterious force.

The force was so powerful he couldn't resist against it, it was slowly compressing on his body, building up a pressure that would crush into his body.

Arden's mind jolted in fright at this feeling, he know that without a doubt, he will be a gonner if the compression force where to immediately act on his body.

"is there anything wrong!" Noiter sounded beside him.

Arden quickly, assumed an unpertubed expression. " nothing is wrong, I just have a feeling that time is running out, we have to make a move on, I'll go first"

Right after talking, Arden dived into the hole. Not even his fear of snakes can compare with his urge to survive the compressional force.

"Hay, why are you setting out on your own" Evnor remarked as she tailed him from behind.

"Here we go again" Noiter snorted.

After jumping into the hole, Arden shortly landed on a rough surface, the compression force surrounding his body suddenly disappeared.

Arden heaved a huge sigh of relief when the force disappeared, his heart still filled with uneasiness and lingering fear of what just transpired.

Despite the variety of his emotions, Arden was most likely not pleased with the system but he didn't dare to voice out any more sound of discontent because he was afraid that the system might react to it.

"why such a rush this time" Evnor sounded behind Arden, the alluring princess started exermining the surrounding curiously the moment she arrived.

"The question now is not about why I was hasty but about which route we should take" Arden mumbled in a small voice as he gaped around warily.

After hearing what he said Evnor peered ahead and noticed why Arden was confused. In front of them where five entrances leading to five passages.

When the two guards and the maid arrived, they joined Arden and Evnor and discussed about with route to take.

"Since we are unsure of what lies beyond, we need to split up and take different routes, I'll take this route with the princess" Micrio remarked as he led the way.

Evnor followed him into the entrance but not after wishing for Arden and the rest to remain safe.

"Which route are you going to take, am leading Noiter that way, are you going with us" Althev said to Arden as he also lead the way.

"No thanks, I'll take this route" Arden shook his head as he walked towards the way he had subconsciously chosen.

"Ungrateful bastard" Noiter snorted as she followed Althev into the route he had chosen.

After the two left, Arden didn't immediately enter the passage, he had a feeling that he was in some kind of underground borehole which probably belonged to a giant snake and couldn't help but be creeped out.

He took a deep breath and stepped into the hole.

"oh, I hate snakes, why couldn't it just be anything else in the world" Arden mumbled as he reluctantly fortified his mind to face the snake.

The cave was dark, but Arden wasn't spooked by the darkness however, he proceeded with the greatest of caution. Taking one step at a time, the lazonion swift blade gripped tightly in his hand, his eyes warily exermining all his surrounding.

As he followed the passage, he ended up in a strange cave which resembled an underground ancient ruin.

All sorts of ancient murals where engraved on the walls of the cave and the whole inner part of the cave resembled an ancient cognitive design of an inner part of a human dwelling.

In the murals, Arden saw a drawing of some humanoid creature with dark skin who looked and dressed like ancient humans, prostating towards a giant snake who raised its head tall and bolted into the sky.

The giant snake was golden in color, it had a horn in the center of it's head which made it resemble a dragon.

"Ding!"

just when Arden was engrossed in gaping at the mural, something strange happened. He heard a noise coming from deeper in the cave. It sounded like someone or something was there.

Arden cautiously made his way deeper into the cave, his heart pounding in his chest. As he turned a corner, he saw something he had never seen before.

There, in the middle of the cave, was a massive stone statue of a dragon. Its eyes glinted in the light, and its wings were spread wide as if it were about to take flight.

Arden was amazed. He had heard stories of dragons, but he had never seen one before. He slowly approached the statue, wondering if it was real. But then he saw something that made him freeze in terror. The dragon's eyes were following him.

Arden stumbled back, his heart racing. He had never been so scared in his life. But then he realized something after starling at it for long. The dragon was not real. It was just a statue. He let out a sigh of relief and continued exploring the cave.

but he didn't go far before a series of hissing sound resonated from the deepest part of the cave, a dark and gloomy space in which his eyes couldn't see through.

From hearing the sound, Arden shivered in fright and brought the lazonion swift blade in front of him as he gazed ahead warily. He had already recognized that the sound belongs to a snake, what he had dreaded to see the most.

Arden felt a shiver run down his spine. The cave was dark and foreboding, and he could feel the eyes of the snakes watching him. But he was determined to survive despite his fear, and he had steeled himself for the battle ahead.

His senses were on high alert. The darkness was almost complete, and he had to rely on his sword's faint glow to light his way. The sound of his footsteps echoed through the cavern, and he could hear the slithering of snakes in the distance.

Suddenly, a hiss filled the air, and Arden felt something brush against his leg. He looked down and saw a snake, its eyes glowing in the darkness. Without hesitation, he swung his sword, slicing the snake in half.

the system's notifications sounded in Arden's ears but he hadn't the time to care about them, more poison stake serpents appeared, hissing and slithering towards him.

They were massive, the size of pythons, with fangs as long as his fingers. Their bodies were coated by black scales and a poisonous gas exuded out of them. However, the life force exuding from their bodies indicated that they where all in level 3 of rank A, weaker than Arden by one level.

Arden nearly turned his tail and ran from the sight of them but he immediately surprised his fear when he remembered how weak the snakes are from reading their life force.

But Arden still didn't have the courage to attack the snakes despite the fact that they were a level weaker than him, he only stood in a spot and in a battle position firmly, preventing his body from shivering.

just the sight of one snake is terrifying enough to him not to talk of so many.

"Hisss!"

After letting out fierce sounds from their mouths, the snakes spread their fangs and lunged towards Arden in different but close intervals.

Arden used his quick reflexes to dodge their attacks, darting back and forth as he swung his blade to swiftly decapitate them.

Arden let go of his fear soon after slaying five snakes successfully however, more and more of the snakes kept creeping out, some lunging towards his upper body and some, slithering towards his lower body but without exception, they were all swiftly executed.

The battle was fierce and unrelenting. The snakes attacked from all sides, their fangs dripping with venom. Arden had to be quick and nimble, using his sword to cut through their thick scales.

The sound of his sword slicing through flesh and bone filled the air, and the stench of blood and venom was overwhelming. Arden fought on, his determination growing stronger with each kill.

Finally, he killed the final snake with a quick slash in the center of it skull. The snaked hissed in pain as it collapsed into a pile of snake corpses that was created as he battled the snakes.
