Chapter 7: Petitioners in the narrow lane

Meanwhile, Scott sat in the back of the car, holding his phone. Walter's voice came through the phone, "Chairman, the mayor is organizing a small gathering among the most powerful figures in the city A. They really hope you can attend. Can you make it?"

Scott always took his work seriously.

Private gatherings among the city's most influential figures were an excellent opportunity to discuss business rather than attending glamorous parties with people with diverse opinions.

Scott replied in a calm tone, "Tell them I will be there."

.

Brando led Mrs. Campbell, Aboli, and Elly into the A.J. hotel, which happened to be the venue for the reception organized by the mayor to welcome ProTrade Capital's representatives.

Elly had come based on Mrs. Campbell's words, though Brando hadn't actually invited her.

Elly discreetly cast glances at Brando, but unfortunately, he paid no attention to her.

Aboli, on the other hand, remained oblivious to these details.

The four of them headed towards the elevator, but surprisingly, they encountered someone familiar there.

Scott, whom they had bid farewell to less than an hour ago, was waiting for the elevator!

Brando furrowed his brow slightly and spoke in a low voice, "Why are you suddenly here, following us, Scott?"

Brando's words caught the attention of the others.

Their gazes turned towards Scott, filled with disgust and disdain.

Elly took a step back, weakly stating, "After a year, he's still as detestable. He'll never change!"

Aboli frowned upon hearing this.

Just then, the elevator stopped with a resounding sound, and its doors opened in front of them.

Scott didn't even bother to look at the others; he just walked in.

The others couldn't help but frown, but there was nothing they could do except follow him inside.

Brando squinted at Scott and said, "Press the floor button first."

Scott didn't bother to look at Brando, and as soon as Brando spoke, he pressed the button for his floor.

The highest floor.

Not only Brando but also the others were shocked.

The top floor of the A.J. hotel was reserved for the most distinguished guests in the city, those who could dine with the mayor.

How could Scott dare to press this floor button?!

Brando couldn't believe his eyes.

Was Scott trying to show off, or had he gone crazy?

The shock lingered until they all exited the elevator.

After turning to see the elevator doors close and take Scott to a higher floor, Brando furrowed his brows, anger evident in his eyes.

Then, as if adjusting himself, he said, "Scott thinks anyone can go to the highest floor, huh? Sooner or later, he'll be kicked out. Let's wait and see."

Elly hastily nodded, saying, "Maybe he just wants to eat on the top floor. It's truly unbelievable!"

Mrs. Campbell quickly agreed.

Only Aboli, while looking at the elevator doors, frowned, feeling that they might have underestimated something.

Indeed, as Aboli's intuition suggested, until the ordered food was brought up, there was no sign that Scott had been kicked out of the top floor.

Meanwhile, Brando gripped his knife and fork tightly, his eyes filled with anger, a sense of unwillingness, and an unwillingness to accept the reality.

At this moment, in the highest-floor dining room of the A.J. hotel, as instructed by the mayor, upon seeing Scott, the servers quickly bowed respectfully. They invited him into the specially reserved dining room.

Almost as soon as Scott entered the room, the four people in the room immediately stood up to welcome him.

They were all elders with mature faces, displaying an air of authority.

One of them was the mayor, and the other three were the heads of the three most prestigious families in the city.

Scott glanced at them, indifferent, and said, "Sit down".

The others quickly smiled and took their seats.

Scott had learned about the mayor from his previous conversation with Walter at the last party.

Now, the other three introduced themselves and their companies.

They were all big shots in the city, but facing Scott, they seemed no different from recent college graduates nervously interviewing for a job.

As they talked about their promising projects, Scott's expression remained almost unchanged.

No one could tell whether he liked or disliked what they were saying.

The others couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy and break into a cold sweat.

Thinking to themselves that this person was truly hard to read, was this really a 24-year-old guy?

Just then, the person with seemingly the youngest authority among them spoke up, "Mr. Scott, I am from the Smith family, Jane Smith. I..."

Before he could finish half of his introduction, Scott's somewhat sarcastic voice suddenly interrupted, "The Smith family, huh?"

Jane was somewhat puzzled.

The others didn't know whether to admire or pity him.

Scott spoke suddenly, but judging by his tone, it didn't seem like he was appreciating the Smith family.

No one knew what he meant.

As Jane began to hold her breath and wait, Scott spoke up again, "If you're the owner of the Smith family, then you must know Brando, right? He seems to be your grandson."

Indeed, Brando always brought up his status as the favorite nephew of the Smith family in conversations.

Jane, upon hearing Scott's words, couldn't help but shudder a bit.

The others couldn't help but look at him with a gleam of anticipation, sensing trouble.

With this subtly mocking tone, Jane didn't need to think much to know that Brando had definitely offended Scott in some way!

He couldn't help but ponder the details of everything.

Perhaps many people still thought Scott was the son-in-law of the Campbell family.

And Brando, his nephew, seemed to have pursued a certain girl for years.

Coincidentally, that girl turned out to be Aboli Campbell, Scott's wife!

Jane had thoroughly researched Scott's previous relationship as the son-in-law.

He didn't know that today, Brando had crossed paths with Scott, but he felt that Brando's pursuit of Aboli in the past had unintentionally offended Scott.

True, who would be happy with someone constantly clinging to their wife?

Jane only wished she could give her grandson a good beating.

Is the city or even the whole world out of women?

Why dream and pursue a married woman?

It's truly disgraceful!

Thinking like this, Jane was furious and vowed to teach Brando a lesson when he returned.

However, at this moment, it was necessary to apologize to Scott.

He quickly stood up, slightly bowed his head, and said, "Certainly, in the past, Brando must have behaved inappropriately and offended you. It's because he has no eyes, a foolish mind. I apologize on his behalf. Moreover, Brando doesn't have much connection with our company; he's just a playboy who doesn't like to work. He truly has no class to compare with you. I'm sure we will punish Brando!"

Scott, hearing this, couldn't help but raise an eyebrow slightly.

It was true that businessmen were decisive; in just a few seconds of thought, he decided to discard his own nephew.

Undeniably, Jane's words were truly soothing to the ears.

However, Scott didn't pay too much attention to them because what he cared about more was the quality of the projects.

He asked Jane only one question; as for Brando, he would deal with him when the time came without needing anyone else to interfere.
