The following day Eva was waiting for Chris to drive her to work as usual but she received unexpected news from him. “I'm sorry but I don't think I'll be able to drive you today.” Chris said with an apologetic expression on his face. Eva was dumbfounded. “Huh!....Why? Is there something wrong?” she questioned, feeling very confused about why Chris made such a decision. “No, it's just that I have some important things to take care of this morning and I don't want you to be late for work. I'm really sorry since I should have informed you sooner.” Chris explained in an assuring tone. However, he was currently lying to Eva. In all honesty, he didn't have any matter to take care of but he made it up as an excuse. He was trying to stay away from Eva as much as possible during this period because he was afraid that he might put her in danger now that he knew that the Landon family were after him. This was something he couldn't disclose to Eva because that might even cause her to

At this time, Chris was mowing the lawn as a punishment from his Kate who was still peeved about what happened last night. He felt the vibration of his phone ringing in his pocket and he was surprised to see that the caller was none other than Amanda. “Hello, I'm surprised that you called me first.” Chris stated, trying to tease Amanda but his reaction soon became serious when he heard the urgency in Chris' voice. “Chris, quick, you have to go help Eva. She is in serious trouble and I don't know her current state.” Chris was stunned. It had only been twenty minutes since Eva left home so what could have happened to her. “What are you talking about? She just left home for work a short while ago.” He said, thinking maybe Amanda was trying to pull a prank on him. “I know! She called me to come drive her to work after her car broke down. Afterwards, I suddenly heard her screaming and there were several grunting sounds.” Amanda frantically explained the situation as it happened

In the office, John sat calmly on a sofa with a cigar in his mouth and Felix standing behind him. When he saw Eva enter the room, a flash of amazement appeared in his eyes. “Are you Evangeline Carter?” he asked with a sleazy smile, narrowing his eyes at Eva “Y-Yes, but I don't think we have met before, sir.” “Haha, Miss Carter, I’ve heard a lot about you.“As expected, you’re gorgeous and worthy of being the greatest beauty of Brooklyn!” John remarked enthusiastically ignoring Eva's questions. He shifted his gaze to the guards standing behind Eva. “Please untie the young lady. We shouldn't treat our guests in such disrespectful manner. Besides, that flawless skin is too precious to be ruined.” He ordered. Eva wasn't fooled by John’s jovial behavior as she was getting danger signals from him. John ordered everyone in the room to rage their leave after Eva had been untied , leaving only two of them in the room. “Please, have a seat, miss Carter. Let's have a small chat!” H

Eva was disgusted but she held herself back for the sake of not provoking John any further. “Yes, I am willing to compensate with whatever amount of money that would suffice to treat Jason so just tell me how much you need,” John's expression darkened after hearing Eva's words. “Evangeline, are you trying to insult me and the Landon family?” “Excuse me!” Eva was very confused. “ Does it look to you that I can't afford to pay the medical bills for my son”s treatment. Your money won't suffice as a form of compensation for the damage done.” John growled, his voice filled with anger. “Then ...Then what do you want? I will do it as long as it's within my power?” The wry and insincere smile that instantly made its way to John’s face made Eva feel a chill run down her spine. Suddenly, John put a bottle of alcohol on the table. “If you really want to negotiate with me, finish this bottle of alcohol first then I'll believe your sincerity.” “Huh!” Eva was put in a difficult positio

Eva wasn't a fool. She understood by now that Johnwasn’t intending to discuss cooperating with her. However, as soon as she stood up, she felt dizzy and couldn’t even stand straight. “You!” Eva glowered at John furiously. But before she could even finish saying anything, she blacked out and fell onto the couch. Eva slumped back on the couch, feeling lightheaded. Her face was dripping with sweat. She could feel the aftereffects of the alcohol hitting her. Her hands and legs went weak, and she was losing her balance. A triumphant smile was evident on John’s face. “It seems like the alcohol is finally taking effect. Even I would normally drink two glasses but you consumed quite a bit too much so you might be out of consciousness for a day or two. There is no choice going against my request but if you choose to make it difficult then I won't be the only one that would have a taste of you.” Eva's face turned pale when she heard that. She suddenly realized that she had fallen deeper

The other security officer was bewildered but he acted fast and radioed more security officers as it seems that Chris was here with malicious intention. “Attention! We have a dangerous intruder in the building. Everyone hurry up!” He announced in an alarming tone and choked on her saliva as her eyes met Chris' menacing gaze. Chris' patience had already run thin and so he kicked the security officer in the chest with a heavy force. The security officer's body flew until it crashed against the metal gate of the mansion Afterwards, Chris casually walked into the compound with aloofness. He was especially merciless today as he brutally decimated every opponent he came across as he approached the main building.. Felix already knew that Chris was a good fighter but he didn't expect that Chris would be this strong. He was in awe just by looking at the exceptional technique and raw strength that Chris was displaying as he fought. Thus, he wondered if they had unknowingly provoked the wrong person. Was he even human? He pondered as Chris seemed more like a ferocious monster. “Stop!” Felix yelled, his loud voice echoed in the air, catching everyone’s attention. Chris also paused and took a glance at the directions the voice came from and he quickly recognized Felix thankfully for the picture Ethan had sent him earlier. “You…where is she?!” He demanded Eva 's whereabouts from Felix. “Mr. Chris, There is no need to cause anymore trouble. The patriarch has expressed his intentions to see you so please follow me.” Felix said, managing to maintain his composure despite the fact he was intimidated by Chris oppressing aura. Felix broke into a cold sweat knowing what John’s gesture meant. A muscular and burly man walked from the corner inside the room and stood next to John. “Hahaha….What do you think now, punk? This is Ludwig, my personal bodyguard. He is a former German MMA champion and his punches are strong enough to break a solid wall. Do you still dare to keep running your mouth? You might get the chance to retain your life if you get down on your knees now.” he bragged, expecting Chris to be intimidated. However, Chris' facial expression was indifferent as he stared at Ludwig. “Is that supposed to make me feel afraid? You don't have the qualifications to make me kneel before you?” John grimaced in rage. When he heard their words, he was so furious that he turned hysterical. “Good, you just signed your own death warrant. I must punish you for looking down on the might of the landon family.” He roared and glanced at Ludwig. Go, beat him up until he begs for death! I want you to crush their bones

Just come and go as you please” Chris’s voice was calm, composed. “I had things to take care of, Mother.” “Oh, so you disappear for days, come back whenever you please, and don’t even think to explain?” “I’m sorry, Mother. I didn’t mean to worry you.” Kate scoffed. “Do you even care about this family? About Eva?” Eva clenched her fists. Why did Mom always have to bring me into everything? Chris remained patient. “I do care, Mother. But I had no choice. I had something important to handle.” Kate exhaled sharply. “You better not bring trouble to this house, Christopher.” Chris didn’t respond. He quietly climbed the stairs. Then came the sound of footsteps. Eva barely had time to react before she noticed Chris making his way up the stairs. Her heart pounded. Would he come to her room? Would he apologize? She frowned, gripping the strap of her handbag tightly. Maybe he’s running late. It wouldn’t be the first time Chris had kept her waiting due to work, but he always showed up. Always. Minutes ticked by. First five. Then ten. The occasional rush of a car passing by barely distracted her from the growing tightness in her chest. Dexter was also equally confused, he was now sweating in fear but he still tried to regain control. “Mr. Landon, I assure you, this is just a misunderstanding—” Before he could finish, Felix turned and slapped him across the face. The entire room froze. Dexter stumbled, eyes wide in shock. “S-Sir?” Felix’s gaze was ice-cold. “You don’t touch people under my protection.” Dexter’s lips trembled. He had underestimated the weight of Chris’s connections. Chris leaned back in his chair, watching with amusement. “How dare you?....How dare you disrespect Mr.chris?....I’m going to see to it that you no longer have the liberty to conduct any more business in Brooklyn by the time I'm through with you.” Dexter was confused and could only drop to his knees instantly and bow his head in shame as he wondered how Chris was connected to the Landon family. “I'm sorry sir….I'm really sorry sir. The dealer flipped the final two cards—King of Spades and a Nine of Spades. Chris had hit a Royal Flush—the highest possible hand. The room erupted into murmurs. Dexter’s face turned pale as he realized he had walked right into a trap. Chris leaned back, crossing his arms. “Looks like I win.” Dexter’s hands clenched into fists. “You… you cheated.” Chris tilted his head. “Cheating? Moments later, Emma was led into the VIP section. At the far end of the lounge, seated in an opulent leather chair, was Dexter. The casino manager was a bald, heavyset man dressed in a perfectly tailored suit. A cigar smoldered between his fingers, and a smug smirk played on his lips as he regarded Emma. “Well, well,” Dexter drawled, taking a slow drag from his cigar. “If it isn’t the dutiful daughter.” Emma stepped forward, pulling out the envelope of cash. “I’m here to pay my father’s debt. This should cover everything.” With a surprised expression on his face, Dexter leaned forward slightly, taking the envelope with feigned interest. He flipped through the bills before exhaling a dramatic sigh. “This is cute,” he said, tossing the money onto the table carelessly. “But it’s not enough.” Emma’s stomach dropped. “What? That’s the full amount he owed!” Dexter shrugged. “I don’t know what my account manager told you but I presume you are smart enough to do the maths yourself. Th

Inside the lobby, the atmosphere was refined—polished marble floors reflected the golden glow of ornate chandeliers, and well-dressed guests moved about with an air of sophistication. Chris quickly spotted the woman from earlier—Emma. She was engaged in a heated exchange with the receptionist at the front desk. Her posture was tense, her hands clenched into fists at her sides. Chris approached quietly, his commanding presence drawing immediate attention. “Is there a problem here?” His voice was steady but firm, cutting through the tension like a blade. Emma turned abruptly at the sound of his voice. The moment their eyes met, recognition dawned on her face. “You….” She stated in surprise. “What are you doing here, Mr….?” “Chris….My name is Chris.” Chris gave her a slight nod. “We meet again.” A few weeks ago, Emma’s father had been struck by a car—an unfortunate incident involving Matt Turner, Eva’s cousin. Chris had been the one to rush the old man to the hospital and cover a

Chris let out a slow breath, controlling the simmering anger beneath his exterior. He had expected Sean to be a problem—an arrogant fool with no self-awareness—but Edward? Attempting to take Eva by force was an entirely different matter. That was an offense that would not go unanswered. He leaned back in his chair, running a hand over his jaw before speaking again. “How did Eva handle it?” Elliot hesitated briefly before responding. “Miss Carter maintained her composure, sir. She did not allow the incident to affect her publicly. However, based on what I gathered from Miss Amanda, she barely slept last night.” Chris’s fingers stilled. He had been halfway across the world while Eva was dealing with this. And yet, when he returned, she had treated him with cold disdain. “Speaking of Eva,” Chris murmured, eyes narrowing slightly. “She was furious with me this morning. I don’t understand why.” Elliot remained silent for a moment before carefully choosing his words. “Mr. Chairman, Mis

Meanwhile, Chris watched in silence as Eva’s car disappeared down the driveway, her frustration still palpable even from a distance. He stood there for a moment, hands in his pockets, frowning slightly as he replayed their brief interaction in his mind. She had barely looked at him. Hadn’t even given him a chance to explain himself. He sighed, running a hand through his hair before pulling out his phone and dialing a number. It barely rang twice before Ethan’s voice came through the receiver. "Boss?" "Come pick me up at the mansion. We're heading to Pegasus Enterprise," Chris said briskly. Ethan didn’t question it. "On my way." Chris ended the call and turned back toward the house, stepping inside to grab a black coat from the hallway rack. Bruce was in the dining room, silently sipping his coffee while reading the morning paper. The older man barely spared Chris a glance, though there was the faintest glint of amusement in his eyes. Chris ignored it. He wasn’t in the mood for
