Suddenly, the distant roar of a helicopter’s rotors became audible over the din of battle. The sound grew louder, accompanied by the distinct thud of boots hitting the ground outside the clinic.

“Who the hell is that?” one of Mason’s men shouted, glancing nervously toward the source of the noise.

The answer came in the form of Chris, Ethan, and Roy jumping out of the black hawk helicopter without waiting for it to land and bursting through the enemy line as they headed towards the clinic’s entrance.

Chris led the charge, his rifle spitting fire as he picked off Mason’s men with deadly accuracy. Ethan followed close behind, providing covering fire, while Roy, despite his injury, moved with calculated precision.

The arrival of Chris’s team was like a thunderclap in the storm. The tide of the battle shifted almost immediately. Cara’s team rallied at the sound of reinforcements, their morale bolstered by the unexpected support.

Chris moved like a predator through the chaos, his eye

The clinic was left in ruins, but the battle had been won—for now. Chris knew that Mason would return, more dangerous than ever. And when he did, Chris would be ready. “Where is James?” He asked. “I already transported him away from the base using a delivery van as a disguise. He is currently on the way to one of our private residences in Egypt .” Chris nodded in satisfaction. His job here was done and he wanted to get back to Brooklyn. “We should also take our leave before the local authorities and other Mercenaries organization pippoint our location.” Cara suggested aa she was very certain that the gunfight would attract a lot of attention. Chris didn't need to argue against Cara since he also wanted to leave but despite how much he desires to return to Brooklyn he still needed to make sure James was fully alright. —- A couple of hours later, an executive helicopter carrying Chris, Cara and Ethan as passengers landed in a compound of a mansion where James was transported. Brooklyn, --- The soft purr of the engine barely registered over the tension simmering in the car. Eva’s hands rested on the steering wheel, her knuckles faintly white as if gripping more than just the wheel—perhaps control over emotions she refused to confront. The streets of Brooklyn rolled by, alive with the neon glimmer of the city’s nighttime pulse, but Eva’s gaze was fixed forward, her lips set in a thin line. Eva gripped the steering wheel tighter than necessary, her perfectly manicured nails tapping against the leather. The sleek black car glided through the bustling streets of Brooklyn, its silent hum betraying the storm brewing within Eva’s mind. Amanda, her best friend, sat in the passenger seat scrolling idly through her phone, her occasional glances at Eva betraying an amused curiosity. Although both ladies were stunningly looking in the dresses they wore but Amanda’s cheerful disposition was a stark contrast to Eva’s brooding silence. “He could’ve at least texted,

Eva thought of the countless times Chris had stepped in to support her, often without being asked. He’d stood up to Eric when the family tried to undermine her authority. He’d helped her navigate boardroom politics, his strategic mind proving invaluable. And then there were the quieter moments—the way he’d left dinner for her when she worked late, or the way he’d shielded her from the harsh scrutiny of the public eye. Then there was the way he always seemed to know when she needed support, even when she was too proud to ask for it. The quiet strength he carried, the unwavering loyalty that had started to feel… comforting. “Earth to Eva,” Amanda’s voice cut through her thoughts. Eva blinked, realizing she’d been staring at the road in silence. “What?” Amanda grinned. “You were zoning out. Thinking about Chris, weren’t you?” “Don’t be ridiculous,” Eva said, though her voice lacked conviction. Amanda laughed. “Eva, you’re not fooling anyone. You like him.” Eva shook her head, forc

It was undeniable that Eva and Amanda were initially surprised. The Bensons were a top tier elite family based in New York and they were far wealthier and more powerful than any household in Brooklyn. Eddie stepped forward, his eyes lingering on Eva. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Carter. I must say, you’re even more stunning in person. The description don’t do any justice on highlighting how beautiful you look ” Eva’s expression remained cold, her voice cutting. “Thank you, Mr. Benson. If you’ll excuse us, we were in the middle of a conversation.” she stated in a cold unyielding tone which implied that they had no interest in interacting with Eddie. Eva nothing again Eddie but the fact that he was connected to Sean was a turn off. Her Sharp instincts were alarming her that there were nothing but problems getting involved with Eddie and Sean. How could she forget how Sean had almost kicked them out of the mansion the first day they had moved in. Eddie’s grin faltered, the dis

The Hudson and Landon families were two of Brooklyn's top tier elite households. It was known that they had enough level of wealth and influence that could move the course of Brooklyn finance and economy states according to their desire. As a result, it was an unspoken rule among the top tier families to maintain peace amongst themselves to avoid chaos. However, it seems like that was about to change soon as Felix Landon and Sean Hudson were standing on a face off. Eddie’s eyes narrowed. “Who the hell are you?” “Someone who doesn’t appreciate harassment,” Felix replied evenly. Eddie laughed, a short, humorless sound. “Do you have any idea who I am? Or who my family is?” It didn't matter which family or organizations Felix was associated with , Eddie always knew that his Benson family surpassed any other clan residing in Brooklyn which made him feel superior. “I know enough about you, Mr. Benson,” Felix said, his tone hardening. “And I don’t care.” The tension escalated, the cr

The man surveyed the scene with a detached calm, his piercing gaze flicking from one incapacitated attacker to the next. He reached into his pocket and retrieved a small earpiece, pressing it against his ear. His voice, when he spoke, was low and cold, carrying an air of deadly efficiency. “Targets neutralized,” he said. “No injuries to the primary subject. I’ll maintain visual surveillance.” A voice crackled on the other end of the line, authoritative but faint. “Good work. Ensure there are no loose ends. Report if anything changes.” The man nodded, though there was no one around to see the gesture. “Understood.” He crouched down beside one of the groaning men, gripping his chin and forcing him to look up. The attacker’s eyes were glassy with pain, his breaths coming in shallow gasps. “Who sent you?” the figure demanded, his tone devoid of emotion. The man whimpered, trying to turn his face away, but the grip on his jaw tightened painfully. “I’ll ask once,” the figure said, hi

Eva woke with a strange heaviness in her chest. There was an odd sense of unease lingering in the air, like the remnants of a dream she couldn’t quite grasp. Brushing it off, she pushed herself out of bed and began her morning routine, letting the warm shower wash away the remnants of her restless night. By the time she was dressed and heading downstairs for breakfast, her mind was fully occupied with work. She had no time to dwell on uneasy feelings. But as she stepped into the kitchen, she froze. Chris. Standing at the stove, casually flipping pancakes as if he belonged there. For a moment, she thought she was still dreaming. Then reality slammed into her like a freight train. Her hands clenched into fists at her sides. “What the hell are you doing here?” Chris turned, grinning as if she had just welcomed him home. “Making breakfast.” Eva’s jaw tightened. Before she could lash out, another voice interrupted. Bruce and Kate stepped into the room, both halting mid-step at

About an hour ago, Chris leaned back in his leather chair, his fingers drumming lightly against the polished desk of Pegasus Enterprise. The floor-to-ceiling windows of his office reflected the golden hues of the late afternoon sun, casting long shadows across the luxurious space. He had just finished reviewing a high-profile acquisition deal, but his mind was elsewhere. Eva. He knew he had failed to pick her up the previous evening. It was a minor misstep, but one he didn’t want to repeat. Their relationship was a delicate balance—one he wasn’t willing to tip over. He glanced at his watch. There was still time before Eva was scheduled to leave the Carter estate, but there was another obligation he had to tend to first. Standing, Chris grabbed his suit jacket and slipped it on with effortless precision. "Ethan," he called as he stepped out of his office. Ethan, who had been waiting outside, straightened immediately. "Sir?" "Prepare the car. I’m stopping by the hotel before he

A few murmurs of agreement rippled through the room. Eva’s gaze sharpened, already sensing Eric’s intention to undermine her. She exhaled slowly, keeping her voice calm yet firm. "I find it amusing that you’re concerned about punctuality when this very meeting was only possible because of the business deals I secured for this family. Or would you prefer to discuss the countless contracts I’ve personally overseen that have elevated the Carter name?" Eric’s smirk faltered for a fraction of a second, but he quickly recovered. "Of course, we acknowledge your contributions. But it isn’t enough. You still have many other responsibilities to the family and as head you need to set an example." Eva folded her arms. "Oh? Do enlighten me." Eric leaned forward, his gaze gleaming with false sincerity. " You know this would have been much easier if you didn't have to drive all the way here. Why don’t you relocate the Carter family to your current mansion? It’s extravagant and more than spacious

Back in her room, Eva leaned against the door, her hands balled into fists. She groaned in embarrassment, not sure about what she just did. Her mind was a storm of emotions—confusion, frustration, pain. The sight of that lipstick stain haunted her. Her stomach twisted at the mere thought of Chris with another woman. She had spent the entire day yearning for his presence, regretting how she had treated him… only to now be met with something that shattered her fragile resolve. Was she really being foolish? Had she been longing for someone who had already moved on? She shut her eyes, inhaling sharply. This feeling—this uneasiness gnawing at her—was unbearable. But there was nothing she could do about it. Not right now. As the night deepened, Eva lay awake, staring at the ceiling, her heart aching with emotions she didn’t know how to handle. And Chris, on the other side of the mansion, was just as restless—completely unaware of the storm brewing in Eva’s heart. T

“Where have you been all day, Chris?” Kate’s voice rang through the house. “Do you even know what time it is? You think that you can. Just come and go as you please” Chris’s voice was calm, composed. “I had things to take care of, Mother.” “Oh, so you disappear for days, come back whenever you please, and don’t even think to explain?” “I’m sorry, Mother. I didn’t mean to worry you.” Kate scoffed. “Do you even care about this family? About Eva?” Eva clenched her fists. Why did Mom always have to bring me into everything? Chris remained patient. “I do care, Mother. But I had no choice. I had something important to handle.” Kate exhaled sharply. “You better not bring trouble to this house, Christopher.” Chris didn’t respond. He quietly climbed the stairs. Then came the sound of footsteps. Eva barely had time to react before she noticed Chris making his way up the stairs. Her heart pounded. Would he come to her room? Would he apologize? But instead, he walked straight past her

Eva Carter stepped through the revolving doors, her heart pounding with quiet anticipation. She frowned, gripping the strap of her handbag tightly. Maybe he’s running late. It wouldn’t be the first time Chris had kept her waiting due to work, but he always showed up. Always. Minutes ticked by. First five. Then ten. The occasional rush of a car passing by barely distracted her from the growing tightness in her chest. But when thirty minutes passed with no sign of him, the bitter taste of disappointment curled on her tongue. She felt like a fool standing there, waiting. No ca
