Eva was saddened as she found herself in the situation she was desperately trying to avoid and again she could only blame Chris.

“That doesn't change anything. This low-life is your husband so you have to take responsibility for his mistakes. How could you allow your husband to buy our grandfather such a lowly cheap gift from a street vendor ?”

Brian Wilson, who was Eric's father and Benjamin’s second son remarked, blatantly accusing Eva of being negligent.

"It was completely my decision to buy this gift for grandpa, besides I never said that I got it from a street vendor either.”

‘Shut it!” Eric snapped at Chris before shifting his attention back to Eva.

“Your lowly husband might be a little bit dumb but I expected a bit more from you as a member of the Carter family but it seems that being around him has begun to cause a negative influence on you.”

Eva’s cheek flushed red in embarrassment after hearing Eric's degrading remarks that were directed at her. “Don't slander me and watch your words. I'm still your oldest cousin and so I won't condone insulting words about both me and my husband anymore.”

Although she and Chris never shared any intimacy in their relationship, the fact was that he was still her husband. She truly didn't like to see Chris being humiliated and insulted especially by her relatives.

It affected her image as well.

She just wishes that Chris would act more manly at times like this rather than acting all calm, meek and peaceful which allows everyone to keep pushing him around.

"Everything Eric said is entirely right. When will that useless husband of yours stop being shameless and start making some reasonable contribution to this family rather than living off our family like a dog?” Ben finally broke his silence as he could no longer stand the ongoing argument.

Eva was left speechless after hearing Ben’s harsh, reprimanding words. She got even more infuriated by her situation. She had sincerely hoped that today would pass without any dramatic events but things never really went as expected whenever Chris was around.

Not far away, Chris listened to all of this with a blank facial expression. He decided to keep his mouth shut in order to avoid making matters worse but he was overjoyed that Eva stood up for him this time around which he had never really done in the past.

“You shouldn't allow such trivial matters to get you upset. There is still a special gift that I bought for you." Eric declared revealing a fine carved wood box.

The design of this woodbox was quite exquisite and it was obvious that it was no ordinary woodbox, much less the content inside the box.

Everyone including fixed Ben fixed their gaze on the box anxiously waiting to see its contents.

Eric had a triumphant smile on his face as he slowly opened the box. “I know that you have a very keen interest in Jade carving and art so I got you this high quality Jade sculpture of Turtle.”

“I heard that the turtles are renowned for their longevity and were seen as a blessing to elderly people in ancient China. It cost me a million dollars to purchase this piece.”

Ben was delighted to see the green jade sculpture resting regally inside the box. Indeed, he had recently taken a liking to Jade carvings, art and gambling.

He also knew that such high-grade jade sculpture would cost a huge sum of money to acquire.

“This is very wonderful!......How thoughtful of you Eric?....I’m at ease knowing that the future of the Carter family is bright.” Ben wholesomely sang praises to Eric.

Eva bit the side of her lips, feeling depressed as she wished Ben would also give her such praise as well.

Chris frowned at the unsightly scenario. He noticed that Eva was on the verge of an emotional breakdown and couldn't help but blame himself for putting her in that state.

A smirk suddenly appeared on his face when he made an observation and thought it was time that he paid Eric back in his own coin.

“Brother-in-law, it's very thoughtful of you to have gotten such a wonderful gift for your grandfather. But it's such a shame that this Jade sculpture is fake.” He suddenly remarked, his gaze fixed on the turtle sculpture.

“What?!....” Eric exclaimed loudly, shocked by Chris' bold accusations. “What are you talking about?... Besides, what would a bumpkin like you know about Jade?” he challenged.

“Stop it!" What are you trying to do this time around, Chris?” Eva snapped. She didn't believe that Chris knew what he was talking about and so she quickly urged him to stop speaking nonsense before he caused more trouble.

‘It’s alright, Eva. I know what I'm talking about. I do have a bit of knowledge about Jade and I do know that the Jade you are currently holding in your hand right now is an imitation.” Chris said, his voice enveloped with confidence.

“imitation!....Is that supposed to mean anything?” Eric retorted.

“Yes, it does. A real jade has a more vibrant and very soft screen color while a fake Jade tends to have a more solid Green color.”

“How is that supposed to prove anything?” Eric barked sarcastically

“Because the one you are holding is a fake, it has less luster when put under light..” Chris explained pointing to the bright chandelier that was swinging from the ceiling, as he almost sounding like a professional jade appraiser. “In addition, the colors on both sides are not consistent. It clears that one side is darker than the other. I can go on with many other reasons if you like.” He shrugged with a nonchalant smile.”

The crowd present in the banquet room were all in uproar after hearing Chris's detailed explanation.

“Hmph ... .I can't believe that he actually bought fake Jade sculpture and was bragging about it like some great achievements.”

“This is totally embarrassing. It turns out that young master Eric had been scammed.”

“The Jade does seem to have a brighter side. He really wasted a lot of money on that garbage.”

“Perhaps, he was intentionally trying to decieve the Patriarch by presenting such harmful tea.”

The room was soon engulfed by the hateful comments made by all the audience

He broke into a cold sweat as he feared that his reputation would be ruined. To be more accurate, he had indeed bought this Jade Sculpture from a peddler at a low price of a hundred thousand dollars. He didn't expect that anyone would be able to recognize it as a fake product. He couldn't allow himself to go down in such a disgraceful manner."You are a despicable bastard. You are obviously just trying to slander me. I bought these Jade Sculpture from a verified source and they couldn't be fake.” Eric shamelessly lied. Chris smiled because he expected that Eric wouldn't admit his fault easily. “In that case, why don't we let someone else verify the authenticity of the Jade in order to confirm it's truly an original.” he suggested. Everyone in the room fixed their gaze on Ben as he was the only other person in the ro

Chris had a sullen expression on his face as he exited the premises of the Carter family villa. He was waiting to get a cab to drive him out of the estate when the vibration and sound of his cellphone ringing in his pocket attracted his attention. He casually dipped his hand inside his pocket to pull out the cellphone, still sulking about the scenario that occurred inside the Carter villa. However, his thoughts instantly switched as soon as he glanced at the number calling him. Chris’s gaze narrowed as he intently fixed his eyes on the phone screen. This was the last number he expected to call him at this time. The phone number was an exclusive private number that belonged to only one person and Chris didn’t need to guess who that person was since it was none other than his master and the man who raised him from childhood, James Wade. Without further delay, he picked up the call. “I thought we agreed that you were never going to contact me." He confronted the caller as soon as he

The next morning, Chris received a text message from James. He got out of bed and went to carry out his chores and made breakfast before he left the house while driving his old electric scooter. His destination was the same restaurant he had gone to meet James the previous day. Upon his arrival, he found James seated at the same table but this time around he wasn't alone. Seated next to James was a young man who looked to be in his mid twenties. “You're late.” James queried as Chris sat right in front of him. “Unlike someone who always has everything prepared for him every morning, I on the other hand had chores that must be attended to.” Chris retorted with a sarcastic smile. “I never knew your life had become so miserable. Who would have imagined that a warlord like yourself would become a houseboy?” James remarked and sipped the coffee in front of him. “Tell me about it.” Chris said nonchalantly and pointed at the young man sitting next to James. “Who is he?” “This is Etha

Elliot swallowed the saliva in his mouth. The longer the conversation becomes the more Chris seems more scary. It had only been a day but it was easy for him to gather enough background information about him. Chris took his cellphone and placed it on the desk. “Have a look at it!” Hesitantly, Elliot moved closer to the desk to pick up the phone. Another bombshell was dropped on him as soon as he read the contents on the phone. “Sir, this…..this is.” “Yes, they are a series of evidence of the recent embezzlement that some of your older cousins have committed in the past few years. I'm sure that you also have a bigger dream and it would be easy to bring down many of your competitors with that evidence in your hand.” “However, it's not for free. I know they must have given you a private mission to keep a close watch on me.
