Chapter 3: Had nothing left

Jack stared down at the tall building, which he had finally come to terms to be his working place. He could not help but wonder if a day would come in his life, where he would be finally liberated from having to receive peanuts as his wage.

As he walked into the building, he noticed some of his workers given him a bizarre stare; one that depict suspicion about an impending danger. Maybe it was just his imagination and overthinking and this madeJack ignore the stares.

After placing his name on the book, which indicates that he was present for work, he heard someone visibly yell out his name. Slowly he looked around and came face to face with his boss.

"In my office now!" It was rare for his boss to yell at him and this made Jack anxious to know what he had done.

Staring at the door of his boss, Jack could not stop his pulsating heart from beating. His brain sought to understand his actions for the past few days, but there was nothing he did that could warrant him being in trouble.

In one breath, he let the door open after knocking on it. Mr. Coleway, his boss had ana amazing office, made out of great designs. As Jack approached his desk, it became evident that he was in deep trouble, judging from the look from his boss.

"Just when I had hoped that you are one of the few delivery guys that would be different, you have proven to me that I was lying." Alas, Jack knew it was happening and he was willing to plead with his life, to save himself from the misery that awaits, if he gets fired.

"I just received a call from one of the clients you delivered a box to last night, saying you scammed him off his property. He further talked about how you robbed him of money and delivered nothing to him." His boss revealation, left Jack absolutely speechless.

One of the main virtue he had imbibed into himself was honesty and he could have sworn that he was innocent of the allegation.

"Not a word from you Jack!" His boss raised his hand up as Jack attempted to speak. "I don't want to hear anything from a boy, who has proven to be a fraud. I would not watch you give my company a bad name." Jack watch on as his boss scrabbled down a piece of information on a paper before handing it over to him.

"You are fired!" Those words made Jack froze for a second. All his dream and aspiration of ever getting out of the slumps scattered and shattered. As his hands slowly took the letter away from the hands of his boss, Jack could not help but be sober as he reflected on his already miserable life.

"Sir, please hear me out..." Jack attempted to speak, but Mr. Coleway's attempt to place a call to one of the security made him hold back his statement and leave the office almost immediately.

As he walked slowly outside the company, he noticed his colleagues still had the judgemental looks on their face. Whatever they were thinking about him, after it seemed apparent that the whole company knew was definitely not true.

Scrambling through his pocket while outside the company, it became apparent to Jack that he had no money to return back to his rented apartment. Eventually, he began walking across the road, heading back to his house.

Merely half a mile away from reaching his apartment, a car drive itswl way across Jac's view and stopped right in front of him, obstructing his movement in the process. Jack watch on as a man step out of the car.

"Hello Jack, remember me?" Jack squinted his eyes and search through his memory as he tried to make a name out of the face he was seeing, but none was coming to his head. The strange man walked over to him and after a second of staring at him, Jack felt a hard impact on his stomach, thus lowering himself and favouring his belly in pain.

"Listen to me real quick stupid brat, Jen is mine and I want you to understand that she doesn't deserve a miserable being like you." Jack felt rage as slowly the vivid image of his wife having a moment with the man in front of him recalled across his mind.

"It was you!" He launched at the man, but got shoved away. The stranger before him was taller and more bulkier than he would ever be, but the anger he was emitting made him fail to see logic.

Jack attempted to get up to his feet, but was pushed further down by the man, who stood on top of Jack and gave a nerve cracking kick to his belly. This forced blood out of Jack's mouth, as he laid there wraithing in pains.

"The earlier you realize that you are never a fit for Jen, the better for you. A man like me, who had the money, who has the influence and the look should be with Jen and not a pity like you." Jack closed his eyes in disgust as he felt the man's spit across his face.

As Jack watched him return back to his car and speed off, he could only feel miserable, anger and determination at the same time. He felt miserable because he had no chance against the bulky man. He felt angry because he had been humiliated right in the public and for all to see.

As Jack slowly dust himself up, while getting up to his feet, it became evident that Jen may never be his again. There wasn't anything he could do about it, as Jen obviously despise him. Loosing his job, further made him realized the apparent need for another job.

Keeping his head high, Jack knew that when the time was right, he would make everything turn around for his good.
