Chapter 35

Luther slowly opens his eyes to the sterile whiteness of the hospital room. The soft hum of machines and the distant murmur of voices greet him as he gets accustomed to his surroundings. His head throbs with a dull ache, and his body still feels a bit heavy. He had hit his head too hard on the asphalt road and now the pain is still not reducing. But this pain is nothing as far as he gets to keep Ariel at his side.

The sterile scent of antiseptic invades his senses, and the rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor fills the room. Luther shifts uncomfortably on the crisp, white sheets, realizing that he is hooked up to a tube. As he tries to move, pain shoots through his limbs and head, forcing him to remain still.

He did not feel this pain yesterday. He wanted to get discharged the other day but the doctor advised to stay at least two days in case the pain gets worse.
