BOOK 3 CHAPTER 18: MEMORIES PART 1

“Now, do you have a plan on how we are going to contact them?” Jessica asked.

Vincent looked at the ceiling as he has nothing in mind right now. He looked at his AC which will not help since it is also connected to the local network of the area, which means that it can also be intercepted. And then, another came in mind,

Does this thing have that?” he asked himself then looked at Jessica “Do you have an Advanced Communicator?”

Jessica sighed, “Of course! I’m a noble too, you know. Everything expensive are somehow own by us.”

Vincent nodded, “Well, I can’t quite remember the features since I wasn’t listening to Romeo back then.”

According to Jessica, the AC has almost an infinite features. Everything is advanced up to its very strap. However, the notable ones are the holographic calls, danger sensing and alerting, and then the less hassle transferring of goods and sort using a space.

“Brilliant! Get a piece of paper and a pen, we will write Violet a letter!” Vincent smiled.

“Letter? Do you actually think a mailman would pick the letter up in this place? What are you planning?” Jessica blurted out.

“We will use the space transfer to send it to Violet. I only need her number for that. And that is going to be our way of communicating!”

To think that Vincent thought about this is amazing. He truly is the brother of Violet Miles, Jessica thought. So, the two of them wrote a 2-page letter that they will send to the captain. After writing it, Vincent activated his AC and then tapped Violet’s number and the options appeared. One of them was the space transfer. Vincent picked the space transfer and then inserted the letter into this small box and with one more tap, the box disappeared and the letter is now sent to Violet.

“Now, we wait.” Vincent says.

He advised Jessica to get some shuteyes since it would be a busy day tomorrow. Jessica refused as both of them needs to stay awake. But Vincent that she should get some sleep as he will be the night watch for tonight as they can’t have the both of them all tired when a fight breaks out. Jessica had no choice. She has sleepless for 3 days now since she is also doing some individual paperwork, so, she agreed and went to bed. Vincent sat on the chair and faced the window to see the bustling city of Eagle. He then remembers the times when his later mother was the one touring him around the city even though she was not born here. However, her knowledge about the city made her look like she had lived here her entire life. If Vincent remembers correctly, his mother was born at the southern continent and a city called Kutsubo, a very small city that only has a small population. She just moved at the central continent as she was stationed here.

What was her squad anyway?” Vincent asked himself.

He totally forgot about the squad of his mother. James, the Miles siblings’ father is a former member of the Majestic Lions. That is why Victor, the eldest child, followed his footsteps and became a member and captain of the same squad. Rumors has it that James Miles rose to the position of captain in just his 2nd year in the squad. It is because of his achievements during his rookie year that made him the captain. It’s quite a controversy. No one has rose to that title, even after when the squad first existed. A lot of commanders were not happy about the decision and they were against it. Saying that James has no experience of leading thousands and that he is still a rookie. However, James proved them wrong. He did great that year he became a captain. And from the 34th spot in the rankings, the Lions rose up to 9th, making it another historic event. He was a great captain. But that power sickness made him retire even though he still has a lot of gas in his tank. He hung his cape when Ben was born and he just focused on the businesses of the family and his family himself. Their mother also retired the day Alvin was born and it took her long to retire that started an argument between her and James. They focused on the family and the children up until Vincent, the 12th child, was born. They lived a happy life. A favoritism was evident even though there isn’t. The children were jealous as the attention of their mother is always at Vincent. Helen did not play favoritism, she just spent a lot of time with Vincent as he is the youngest among the 12 and still need the guidance of her as his mother.

“Mom! Can you sign this for me? Dad wouldn’t let since he thinks that it’s too dangerous!” Alvin runs towards Helen with a letter in his hands.

Helen was feeding Vincent ice-cream that time,

“What is it, Alvin?” Helen asked as she stood up to read it, “A tour to a chemical laboratory? I think it’s dangerous too. I think your father’s right, the trip is dangerous. You might be harmed just being in there.” Helen warned.

“Mom, please—Vincent, don’t bathe yourself with ice-cream!” Alvin yelled as Helen turned around.

“Vince!” Helen runs to her son as she cleans him with a clean cloth “I just turned around for a few seconds, and here you are, drenched in chocolate!”

While Helen cleans him, Vincent was laughing and smothering his face with more ice-cream. Alvin forced a grin as they were not like this when they were kids.

“In any case, please let me go to this lab, mom. I’ve spent a few thousands just to get that pass. Pleaseeee~” Alvin put his hands together and begged his mother to let him.

Helen sighed, “Okay, okay. Just don’t get yourself exposed into some dangerous chemicals! Be careful!”

After a few more reminders and warnings, Helen signed the waver and Alvin has a wide smile on his face that reached his ears. He patted Vincent on the head as he then went to go the trip. And 3 days later, Alvin came home with bandages over his eyes and is now blind because of an explosion in the laboratory. He is the only who survived in his group of 55 people and even the 15 scientists who were in the lab died that day. No one expected that one of the scientists in the facility was creating an explosive chemical that when comes contact with oxygen explodes. However, despite that blindness, Alvin still strived as a hero and is now one of the highest ranking heroes in the world. That’s a Miles for you.
