The Ultimate Betrayal

A day was picked for Cassandra and William’s wedding. It was the talk of the town with many in anticipation about it. “ Are you ready?” Miranda asked, looking at Ethan in the face.

“ I don’t know why but I feel a little bit anxious.” Ethan replied. “ You are not tied to the Paige anymore. You are with me now.” Miranda Said with a smile on his face.

“ What do you have on Williams Hargrove?” Ethan looked at her. “ Why don’t we make this more interesting?” Miranda said sharply. “ Interesting? How?”

“ Why don’t we get married?” Miranda asked, looking at him. “ Married? Why would you want to marry a man with nothing? Look at me.” Ethan said pitifully

“ I don’t think I am ready to get married again. Not after what happened to me the last time.”

“ I am not, Cassandra and I will never do anything to hurt you.” She said slowly. Before Ethan could move away any further, She planted a kiss on Ethan’s lips.

Miranda’s bold move left Ethan stunned, his mind racing with conflicting emotions. He gently pulled back, but her confident gaze held him in place.

“Miranda,” Ethan began, his voice barely above a whisper, “I… I don’t know if I can trust anyone like that again. Especially not after Cassandra.”

Miranda tilted her head, her expression softening. “I’m not asking you to trust me blindly, Ethan. I’m asking you to trust that we can help each other. You’ve been through hell, and so have I. Maybe together, we can find a way to make things right—for both of us.”

Ethan turned away, running a hand through his hair. The thought of what Cassandra had done to him was something he was trying to fight. But Miranda’s proposal was more than just about marriage—it was a calculated move to solidify their partnership, to stand as equals against their common enemies.

“Fine,” Ethan said after a long silence, his back still to her. “If getting married helps us achieve our goal, then I’ll do it. But this isn’t about love or trust. This is a business deal.”

Miranda smiled faintly, stepping closer. “Agreed. But maybe, just maybe, we’ll find something more in the process.”

As the days got closer to Cassandra and Williams’ wedding, the city buzzed with excitement. Miranda played her part flawlessly, attending fittings and rehearsals as Cassandra’s ever-dutiful chief bridesmaid. Behind the scenes, however, she and Ethan worked hard to craft their plan.

Ethan’s role was clear: gather incriminating evidence against Williams and Cassandra. He spent nights hacking into their financial records and also trying to dig more dirt on the Paige family.

The day before the wedding, Miranda had gone to the Paige’s family house to help with the preparation. “I can’t believe I am finally getting to be Mrs. Hargrove,” Cassandra said, beaming with a smile.

“You must be so excited,” Miranda said, handing Cassandra a glass of champagne.

“Ecstatic,” Cassandra replied, her voice dripping with arrogance. “Williams is everything Ethan wasn’t—rich, powerful, and ambitious. I finally have the life I deserve.”

Miranda’s grip on the glass tightened. “I’m happy for you,” she said, her tone neutral. “You always knew how to get what you wanted.”

Cassandra smirked, raising her glass. “Here’s to a perfect future.”

Miranda forced a smile as their glasses clinked, but in her mind, she was already envisioning the chaos that would unfold the next day.

The morning of the wedding, the grand venue was packed with guests dressed in their finest attire. Cassandra was a vision in white, basking in the attention as she prepared to walk down the aisle.

Ethan on the other hand was the trump card Miranda had been hiding. She didn’t let Cassandra know that Ethan was with her all along.

“ How do I look?” Cassandra asked, staring at Miranda. “ You look stunning. “ What about Ethan? You promised to help me get him. Williams cannot know that I have dissolved the marriage with him. I can’t have him holding me back.”

“ Don’t worry, Ethan won’t be a problem and even if he tries to ruin the union, we are going to have him thrown out.” Miranda said with a smile.

“ I trust you.” Cassandra replied.

The door opened and Williams walked in. His face went pale as he locked eyes with Miranda.

“ Do you know each other?” Cassandra asked, noticing the tense atmosphere. “ No, I am just seeing him for the first time.” Miranda said, looking at her. “ I must say, friend. He looks dashing in that Italian suit.” Miranda said gently into Cassandra’s ears as she walked out of the room.

However, Ethan was seated in the car though, he looked a bit nervous. He and Miranda had also planned to get married on the same day Miranda and Williams were getting married at the same marriage registry in fact.

Then, he put a call through to her as Miranda was already inside the venue.

“Hey, I’m outside, can you come now?” He said camly.

“Sure, I’m on my way,” Miranda replied as she excused herself from Cassandra and William’s presence.

And just like a wind, she got outside the venue and was able to locate Ethan with the help of the car’s color. With a smile, she entered.

“ Are you ready?,” She began. “ Remember, once we are married, you aren’t the lowlife man who worked for the Paige’s company. You are now a man who controls a multi-dollar company.” Miranda said with confidence.

“And when I said I was going to help you get your revenge, I also promised to make you wealthy beyond your wildest dreams.”

Hearing all of theses, Ethan watched as Miranda walked away.

“ This is now or never.” He said to himself.

The church bell chimed and everyone began to troop into the church to witness the holy matrimony of Miranda and Williams.

As they were about to enter the church, Cassandra caught a whimp of Ethan seated in the car. “ Is that?” She took a look at the car. “ Are you alright?” Williams asked, staring at her face.

“ I think I saw him.” Cassandra said again.

“ Who? Ethan. I don’t want you to mention that poverty stricken man’s name.” Williams said, holding her hand.

Miranda let out a gentle smile as they walked into the church. “ Are you ready to become one with him, to be his lawfully wedded wife?” The pastor said, looking at Cassandra. She was about to say the word but then the door opened. Everyone’s attention shifted towards the door to see this stunning and handsome young man walking through the entrance.

“ Is that?” Williams asked, staring at Cassandra who looked dazed. “ What the hell is he doing here?” William said slowly, staring at her face.

To everyone’s surprise, Miranda took off the chief bridesmaid maid dresses. Underneath was a wedding gown of her own.

The crowd ripped with murmurs as many of them didn’t understand what was happening. “ Isn’t that Cassandra’s ex husband?” One of the guests who recognised him said. “ What is going on?” Frank looked at his wife Tiffany who was also lost.

“ We aren’t only joining the Hargroves in holy matrimony but we are also joining Ethan and Miranda Lescot also.” The pastor said beaming with a smile.

“ What? You mean to tell me you had him within your grasp all this time?” Cassandra looked at her in anger. “

“ I am not only having him but he is going to be my husband.” Miranda snapped at her.

Cassandra plunged at Miranda and landed a heavy slap to her face. The hall was immediately silent with everyone wondering what was happening

Ethan didn't waste time returning the energy making her go red in the face. Miranda snickered in the background before averting her eyes pretending not to listen to them. "Oh? Is that what you think my marriage was?" Cassandra fired at him. "Exactly what I think it is. You came here to undermine me. Why should I spare you my thoughts? If you had any tangible reason you would have made it known. I think it's becoming borderline worrisome that you engage yourself in conversations about me when you can simply pretend that I do not exist in any form or shape and we wouldn't have problems." Miranda removed her glasses at the same time Ethan did, and their workers broke into applause. They stopped walking immediately after they got to the middle of the room. It was time to give a public address since not a lot of people were present at the wedding. Miranda stretched her hand and a mic was thrusted into her palm. "Good morning everyone." A chorus answered her and she smiled in acknowledgement. "As you all know, I have gotten married to the love of my life, and he will be taken of your position.
