"Well-well-well, what do we have here?" the biggest of them said.

There was a total of three men in the cell and they were all very muscular. "It's a newbie." another said.

All three of them had tattoos on their chests which I thought were their names. "What are you in for? the third, tattooed Peter, asked me.

At first, I tried to ignore them. I walked passed them and sat on the floor, leaning on the wall. They all looked taken aback by my action that it took them a full minute to say something.

" What the hell?" the second, tattooed, Clark, said, in a questioning tone. "Boys? It appears to me that we have a tough one here." the biggest among them, tatted Mark, said, cracking his knuckles. He kept his eyes on me like he was indirectly calling me dead meat.

"When a question is asked, you have to answer it," Mark said. He grabbed my shirt with on hand and easily lifted me I could no longer feel the ground under my feet. With both of my hands, I got hold of his and tried to force h

There was a brief silence and after that a knock which made my heart jump out of my chest, "Tamira?" my mother's voice called from the other side of the door. I quickly moved away from the door the moment the door handle moved. Thankfully, I had locked myself in before. But now I didn't know what to do. Should I stay in bed and pretend like I don't want anyone bothering me or should I open the door? I reached for the door handle with shivering hands. I touched it and then withdrew the moment it shook again. "Tamira?" mom called out to me again. My lips shook, unsure of whether I should answer or not. I mumbled. "Tamira what are you doing in there? Please open the door." mom begged. I knew she was only putting up an act. and played along with her. "Tamira please come out. Dad is gone, I get it

"Mrs. Wilson has been using us in jail, turning us into beasts to take care of people she sends to jail. And each time we do a job, she denies us what she earlier promised. Other times, she promised money but this time it was our freedom." Clark explained. "So why is it that you all continue when you are all well aware that she will not keep her side of the bargain?" I asked them. "Hope," Mark said. "We've had it ever since," Mark added. "Hope is the only thing that has been keeping us going and without it we... We don't know what else to believe in." Peter said to me. "But seeing you... How you are capable of standing by the truth even when you know it won't work out, that lit a spark in us." Mark said to me. He got up and the other two did the same, "starting from today, we seize to work for Mrs. Wilson. No matter what!" Mark declared. "Yeah!" Peter and Clark shouted in agreement. The three of them joined their hands together and turned to me. "Get I here," Mark told me. I ste

"Yes mother," Xavier answered and took Tamira from my arms. He left the room with her and I left after them but headed towards the cells. On reaching the cell where Devon used to be kept, I watched as one of those three men who used to be Devon's cellmate was being whipped."Stop," I said. The officer flogging him stopped and moved away. I stepped into the cell and took the whip from the officer."What is happening here?" I asked the officer."These three were spotted outside the cell at night." the officer answered me."And why is this one being flogged?" I asked the officer. "He is their leader and it was him who confessed to helping the houseboy escape." the officer answered."Are you getting dumb or were you born dumb?" I asked the officer. He gave me a confused look and hesitated to speak a word."How can one person confess to being responsible for Devon's escape and you believe him when it is so obvious that all three men helped him escape?" "Enough of that nonsense. We are taking my car to the location." I said. I remembered that Tamira and Xavier were waiting for me inside but then waved it off. They would have to take a taxi because of Tamira. I wouldn't want her waking up in the middle of the entire thing and learning more than she should ever learn.iI headed for my car with Clark and two policemen. When I reached there I saw that neither Xavier nor Tamira was in my car. Just when I was about to call him, I spotted a note on one of the seats."I took Tamira home in a taxi. She had woken up and refused to stay but. I will make sure to keep her locked in her room till you return." the note said.I tore the note just in case and I entered my car. With the help of Clark's directions, we arrived at a small hut."That is where we kept him," Clark said."Stay back with him," I instructed the two officers. I went into the hut alone and there was no one in it. Had he gone somewhere? Never mind. I will wait till he gets back.

Mrs. Wilson POV:I entered my daughter's room with my son standing beside me, "Tamira." I said her name. How could this girl be asleep right now?Just by the movement of my eyes after I turned to him, I signaled Xavier to wake his sister up. Xavier shook Tamira awake and moved back to his position beside me.Slowly but surely, Tamira woke up and turned to us who were watching her. She sat up immediately and wiped her face with her hand, "What is it?" she asked. I wasn't expecting that kind of question from her after all that happened a few hours ago."Why are you two in my room?" Tamira asked us."Why not? Are we banned from entering? A mother should not see her child and a brother should not see his sister?" I asked her."You both mean nothing to me. I cannot be related to such people who frame crimes on the innocent." Devon POV: It's been a long walk to nowhere. Nevertheless, I wasn't ready to give up just yet. I looked around me and the place was unfamiliar to me. My legs were aching from the long distance, my stomach was empty, and my throat was dried up with my mouth and lips. There was almost no hope of my surviving. I sat down at the side of the road and wondered, first, how I was going to find my way back on foot as I had no money on me. Second, of how I was going to eat and where I was going to stay. I knew no one in this place and no one seemed ready to let in a stranger. This was another poor side of the city, one of which I did not know. People paid no attention to me and just went about with their businesses. Soon I found an empty hut and I made myself at home. It didn't look like anyone stayed there anymore. "Excuse me, ma'am. Do you know the people who live here?" I asked a passerby, as I stepped out of the hut. The lady looked at me with indifference, hissed, and walked away. Th

"Okay. I'll go now." I said to mother. "Be careful," she replied as she waved at me. I went from enough and then hid among the trees before changing into city clothes. I found my eyes in the city and although I was amazed at what it looked like, I felt familiar with it. I breathed in some air and then coughed. What was that? I turned and saw a car. Smoke was coming out of the other end. I ran away from it and I almost got hit by another one which was passing by. I ran out of the way and after I did, I saw the car reverse and stop. A door opened and I ran into hiding. I watched from my hiding spot as a man came out of the car and began to yell. "Tamira," he said. I watched him give up and return to the car. The car drove away and I came out of where I was hiding. Was that man going to run me over on purpose? And how crazy can the people here get? Just came out and shouted then returned to his car. Strange. I strolled around the city, making sure not to forget the road I took to

... *FLASHBACK* TAMIRA POV: Mrs Wilson jammed me off the road and as my car crashed, some part of it jammed into my stomach. I crept out of my car in great pain. I already regretted trying to escape on my own in the first place but maybe it's better than another day with that witch. I lay on my back on the floor and the last image I saw was Mrs Wilson's face staring down at me as she stood over me triumphantly. My eyes shut down and all around me was nothing but darkness. *After that moment*I opened my eyes and found myself in a strange place. "Where... Where am I?" I questioned as I sat up and placed my palm on my aching forehead. I looked around from where I was seating up and saw that I was in some sort of shelter that looked like huts from tribes in the old days. I tried to get off what I took to be the bed but my stomach pains struck and I screamed. A woman ran into the hut."Are you alright?!" she exclaimed. I shifted away from her as she stepped closer. "Who are you?" I a

"I love her so much Jason. How can I live without her? What good is the money without her?" I whispered. I knew Jason was in pain from the punches I gave him but he did not bring it up, "you have to let her go Devon. You have to." Jason said to me, softly and I cried. "She is not dead. And I will find her." I said. I parted from Jason and looked at Mrs Wilson one last time. "Let's go," I said to them and turned away, heading out of the building. It was another one-hour drive before I reached what was now known to be my mansion instead of the Wilsons'. Mr Hamilton had already gone back home. I was about to walk into my home when Jason stopped me, "if you want I can stay back. Just to keep you company." Jason said to me. "Thank you. But I think I'll stay alone." I replied. I passed the gates and entered the main building. "Where is she?!" I asked the first officer I saw in the police station. "Where is who?" he questioned me. "Mrs Wilson! Where is she?!" I answered. "Why are you looking for her sir?" the officer asked me, not minding how I barged in. I left the officer standing there and went in to look through the cells. "I know you are here Mrs Wilson Wilson! Show yourself right now!" I shouted. I searched all the cells but failed to find her. I came out and walked straight to the officer I had left and I grabbed him by the collar. "How come she is not in there?! So you people dared to release her?! Die she find extra money to bribe you with?!" I yelled at the officer. "Call down sir!" the officer exclaimed. How long did you think you could hide your real personality? So you were working with Mrs Wilson the entire time?!" I replied. I heard Grenade laugh from the other side of the phone, "I was once loyal but where did that get me? Nowhere! I worked next in command to Mr Cranston and what did that old fool do?!
