Chapter 5: The Amagrok

"Approaching destination in 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…"

The ship made its landing on an old rusty crash site surrounded by spontaneous cliffs and a bunch of damaged stuff.

Before they depart the ship, Ricky calls Brendan aside to talk.

"Keep me in touch at all times. If anything you find strange out there, you let me know. If things get too messy, return with the team back to the ship. Alright?"

"Copy that." Brendan replied.

"One more thing. Look after Sonia for me, keep her close, and never let her out of your site." Ricky said with all seriousness. He was literally shaking Brendan's shoulders to pass the message.

Brendan became even more curious as to why Ricky was always looking out for Sonia. He was about to ask him who she was to him but changed his mind.

"Got it, Sir." Brendan replied and put on his helmet. "Heading out."

"Good luck team, go get our vibranium." Drummond said.

The team put on their space suits and made their way out of the ship. They started walking down the open road to a certain point where an indication on the map showed a straight path, but now there was no passage visible.

The place was blocked with lots of rocks and it would be impossible to climb over.

"Mothership, do you read me?" Brendan communicated.

"Yes, loud and clear. What's your status?" The mothership responded immediately.

"Umm, I think we need to find another way around. The path on the map is no more. Over. " Brendan reported.

After a few minutes of silence, Ricky came on "Alright 007. Be careful and keep us updated."

"Copy that." Brendan replied.

They started walking around the pile of rocks and ended up in a more complicated situation. There was no other

path along the line, just an eerie dark cave at the back of the rock.

"Let's keep going." Ryan communicates with the team and starts walking into the cave.

Brendan wasn't comfortable with it, he remembers Ricky telling him to keep them updated.

"Shouldn't we be reporting back to the ship? This is a dead end." Brendan advised.

"Stop acting like a child, Brendan. Look, it's completely safe." Ryan replied.

The rest of the team agreed with the second in command and followed him into the cave, after all, there was no sign of any alternative.

Brendan stood still, trying to consider the odds.He didn't even notice Sonia standing with him.

"If you say we shouldn't go that way, we have to follow your order, but Ryan is right. There is nothing else here that looks like a pathway except for that cave. So, what do you say?" She asked.

Brendan remained silent for a while, looking around his surroundings he finally realized that the cave was the only way.

"You are right, let's go catch up with the rest." Brendan replied and they both went in.

Just a few seconds after the entire team entered the cave, a certain sound started emanating from the rocks. The ground burst open and something with red eyes and tentacles crawled its way into the dark cave with them.

"So, what was the worst thing that ever happened to you?" Ryan asked Sasha as they explored the cave.

"Unfortunately, I don't want to talk about it." Sasha replied.

"Come on, we can't just be walking in silence. It's getting too boring. Right guys?" Ryan insisted and he was backed up by the guys present.

"Fine. When I was six, I went to the amusement park with my parents. I was riding my favorite, Merry Go Round. All of a sudden I was struck with anxiety."

"Oh, you saw your crush right?" Ryan interrupted and everyone giggled.

"No! Just let me finish. So the other day I watched that scary movie, IT. Where a clown was luring and hunting children down, feeding on their fears. Now I was on the Merry go round when I saw the same clown in that movie, approaching. Like oh my God, I was scared to death. I couldn't cry, I couldn't move. I felt my heart jump out of my chest. To cut the story short, I woke up in a hospital bed when I asked what happened to me, I was told I had a nosebleed and fainted." Sasha concluded and they all laughed out loud.

"Hahaha…That was a good one, Sasha." Ryan laughed uncontrollably.

"You are unbelievable, Ryan 006." Sasha hissed.

"I'm sorry, it's just too funny. Don't worry, from now on I will be your protector!" Ryan exclaims out of proportion.

"Really? That's so sweet of you, but NO. " Sasha replied.

They were discussing and cracking jokes, especially Ryan. He made the journey so lively and entertaining until things became intense.

"Did you hear that?" Brendan raised an alarm. He was the one at the back and he thought he heard something approaching.

"What?" Sonia asked.

"Something is not right. I need everyone to be on alert, shoot down anything on sight, and stay close." Brendan instructed.

"Okay, you guys are scaring the hell out of me now. What is going on?" Davis who has been silent the whole time spoke.

The team fastened their pace and stayed focused. Each with loaded guns while finding a way out of the cave. At one point, the sound of something big approaching became loud and clear. Before they know it, a creature with lots of tentacles bursts out from the ground right in front of them.

"Holy sh*t!" Ryan was perplexed as well as everyone, but it looked like he already peed in his pants, his legs turned into jellies when he saw the size of this unearthly octopus.

"QASA! Agent 007 reporting. We are being attacked by some kind of creature. Do you read me?" Brendan reported back to the mothership.

"Damn it. Okay, what does it look like?" Ricky asked.

They opened heavy fire at the creature but it didn't even leave a scratch. The creature got mad and used its tentacles to lash them against the wall.

"Agent 007 are you there?" Ricky spoke.

"Y-yeah. It looks like a giant octopus." Brendan responded.

"That's an Amagrok and it has lots of venom in its teeth. Don't let it get too close, it will wrap you up like a snake and crush your bones!" Ricky stated.

"(Panting) So what do we do? It's closing in on us!" Brendan asked.

"You'd have to use it. That's the only way you can kill that thing" Ricky replied.

Brendan doesn't have enough time to think about anything. He is the captain and he needs to put others first before himself.

"Go on guys, I got this," Brendan said to his teammates.

"No, we are not leaving you behind." Sonia declined.

"Take the V-tech and go. I will catch up with you guys as soon as I can." Brendan hands over the Vibranium tech to Sonia.

"But…"

"That's an order! Go!" Brendan insisted.

He was able to distract the Amagrok to focus on him while the rest of the team fled for safety.

Sonia was still unwilling, she didn't want to leave Brendan behind. So Ryan had no choice but to drag her along.

"I hope this works." Brendan inhales deeply.

Just before they departed the mothership, Ricky gave Brendan a detonation shock wave bomb and a force-fill shield in case of emergency. The bomb has a timer attached to it and Brendan just needs the right moment to implant it on the Amagrok, without getting too close of course.

The Amagrok growled aloud, approaching slowly. So Brendan quickly fixed the bomb to detonate in two minutes.

When the Amagrok wanted to flaunt its tentacles at him, Brendan was able to dodge and plant the bomb as fast as possible.

He started running away but the Amagrok chased after him, bursting through the walls and destroying anything on the way.

The timer was counting down fast as Brendan continued running to safety, but he couldn't possibly outrun this thing before it exploded.

The bomb exploded throughout the cave, causing cracks to appear all over the place.

Sonia pulled her hands away from Ryan's when she heard the blast.

"No, Brendan!" Sonia screamed at the top of her voice and started running back to where they left Brendan.

"Sonia, no. We have to keep going, it's not safe here." Ryan called out to her but she didn't stop running back.

The cracks on the wall started increasing and some parts of the cave started falling and crashing to the ground.

Sonia covered her head to prevent the dust and falling rocks. Now she can not move forward or backward because everywhere is covered in dust.

When the dust subsided, she was trapped in between some fallen rocks on both sides.

"Agent 007 do you read me?…007 do you copy?... Brendan, if you can hear me please say something?.... Brendan!"

Sonia tried using her walking talking to communicate with Brendan but no one was responding. She fell to her knees and started crying, bitterly.

"It's all my fault. It's all my fault." She wails.
