The Queen charged with blind rage at the creature, and the thick black claws dug into the dirt, barely budging as the Queen hit it with the bulk of its mass. Ronan slowly lifted his head to get a look at his saviour, watching as the Vidaean caught the Queen's horn in its menacing antlers and dragged its head into a tree with a hollowed thwack.

The Queen didn't give in, tearing its horn from the interlacing bones and attempting to rise above its opponent by standing on its hind legs and throwing out its front hooves to hit the Vidaean square in the face. That was the only attack it managed to get off however, as the Vidaean ducked down and scooped the Queen's front half up, effortlessly ramming it against the closest tree and slamming the flailing warhorse sized unicorn to the ground. It let out a hissing grunt as the Queen snorted and barked out feral growls, pinning its neck and pressing the thick black talons into its throat.

Ronan watched as the once terrifying beast that tried to

Ronan sacrificed one of his pillows when he got to his room, so he could place the unconscious dragon in the furthest corner Truvius could find, and leave a small bowl of water beside it.After shooing his bird out the window, Truvius washed the dragon's wounded ear and brushed the dirt out of its fur, rubbing a green spread over most of its bleeding scrapes and wrapping them up with fresh linen. After a quick drying enchantment, the soggy dragon resembled a puffy white cloud, almost blending in with the brilliant white pillow it was on.Truvius gave his work a satisfied sigh, sitting beside Ronan on the edge of his bed as they stared at the dragon."He's got a broken wing, but I'm bad at healing so there's not much I can do."The two boys sat in silence, contemplating the amount of trouble they had committed themselves to. Ronan was tempted to take a picture of the cute ball of fluff, but resisted the urge under the heavy atmosphere his roommate was leaking, opting instead for a ques

  • WAR PLANET: The Phantom    Chapter 17

After discussing how they were going to feed the dragon, Truvius left to go and visit the stables for some tips, forcing Ronan to stay and keep an eye on the creature. It was sleeping on its back, with its broken wing stretched to the side, and its barbed purple tongue hanging out.He grimaced at the thick string of drool growing on the floor, distracting his thoughts while he removed his necklace and dropped it on the night stand. As he pulled the flat rock out of his pocket, he failed to place it on the nightstand, staring at the object, as eerie as it was useless, in heavy ponderment.Rocks.He hated them all.Six giant ones with teeth had given him the scare of his life, a small, insignificant pebble had proved to be of more use than him in front of the pissiest teacher in the universe, and now this one. The one he'd grabbed simply because it reminded him of his mundane home, held in its bland shell a world of mysteries. And he wanted nothing more than to avoid each and every one

It was a man, which would have been enough to give Ronan a heart attack. But the stranger had gone overboard on the spook spectrum hiding in a full-faced plain white mask with an unnaturally long smile curving from cheek to cheek, and narrow crescents for eye-holes. He was also wearing a tight crimson trench coat, and a matching broad brimmed hat with a long purple feather drooping over the left side.Ronan couldn't see any visible weapons, but his sudden appearance and out of place dress code kept him on his toes. Not to mention, the only skin showing was parts of his ears peeking through his hair, and his neck, both of which were unnaturally pale. The person quickly raised his empty hands and backed away."Woah! Let's all just calm down a bit," he blurted, his head slowly tilting as he dropped his arms in disappointment. "Who are you anyways?""Who am I?" Ronan stuttered, almost answering the question before thinking twice. "Screw that. Who the hell are you and why are you in my roo

When Ronan awoke there was something on his head again. Unfortunately, it wasn't the cold and squirming metal dragon come to nip at his nose. This thing was big, soft, and white. It was his pillow.Ronan didn't dare to move, because if his pillow was on his head, then it was on the pillow. His suspicions were confirmed when he felt a shifting movement, and two fluffy white paws with sharp white talons came down and gripped the stitched white edges with a restless flex. It was waiting for something, the pillow rocking as it wiggled its butt in anticipation, but what? Then he noticed the metal dragon, sitting on the nightstand with its tail curled around the front of its feet, and looking timidly in Ronan's direction with its glinting sapphire eyes.Pressing the pillow down into Ronan's face, the dragon leapt forwards and caught the metal dragon in its paws. However, with a short lived victory its hind legs slid off the nightstand dragging the rest of it to the ground, and leaving a cou

Truvius and Ronan eventually returned to the room to get their combat suits, but stopped outside their door when they heard the caterwauling cries of the dragon. They both exchanged a knowing nod.It was a trap.Definitely a trap.Ronan quietly unlocked the door, then whipped it open as fast as he could, getting ready to dodge any obstacle the dragon had ready for him. It was sitting out of reach of the door, its mouth hanging open from the caterwaul he'd interrupted. The dragon looked silently at him, then it's ears perked up and with one swift jump it latched onto his leg like a clawed koala."It's hugging you!" Phantom cooed.A happy hug was the last thing on his mind while the dragon dug its claws into his leg to seal its position. All he could do was scream ow a number of times, and try to shake the attachment off of his captured leg, while Truvius cringed away, valuing his fingers over rescuing his friend. When the dragon was done hugging his leg, it jumped off and bounded onto

All the students made a spotlight ring around Ronan and his new companion when he came into class with it. His silver-uniformed peers weren't as uncomfortable as the purple-uniformed students, who were taken by surprise when he walked in with the bandaged-up ball of cuffed fluff and claws circling his feet.Talli was the only student other than Ronan that didn't fear the dragon. She had taken Mr. Mudelin's advice in assuming dragons were good until proven otherwise to heart, and was giving him a scratch behind the ears.Thankfully, the dragon accepted her attention instead of trying to eat her hand, since it was more distracted with taking pleasure in the widespread fear it had hit the class with.Through the rustle of cautious glares and whispering students, a purple-striped student itching for answers raised his voice above the crowd."That your Guardian?"Ronan stared at the boy lazily leaning against the wall and quickly shook his head."He picked it up in the forest while he was

The class went on, the types of attacks changing every few minutes, yet still sticking to the fairly harmless theme. Talli managed to give Ronan a couple good whacks, and almost decapitated him with a stick, but he was forced to remain her partner. She'd apologized past the point of sincerity, and was intent on telling Ronan it wasn't her intention to give him a near death experiences every five minutes, but her reassurance, paired with Mr. Mudelin's lack overall lack of care, completely failed to comfort Ronan.Phantom mainly amused himself through irritating the dragon, but whenever Ronan messed up a word he was saying, he would correct him without fail, and of course let loose an ageless cackle at Ronan's mortified facial expressions when a stick got a little too close to his vitals. The end of class eventually came after an eternity of glancing at the clock, and he hadn't done a single spell perfectly, or passably. He could feel his chances of expulsion growing with each scribble

"I see you brought that dragon with you..." Was the first thing Mrs. Vienta said when Ronan walked through the door, not even backtracking for a greeting as she cautiously eyed the creature. "He's well behaved to be following you without a fuss, he can't be wild. Perhaps his captors had him since birth... but please keep an eye on him."Ronan nodded and the dragon responded with a sassy hmph. They were going to the forest again, but Mrs. Vienta assured the class this time she'd be leading them, along with some helpers. Helper number one was a green uniformed girl that looked like a senior student, leaking an experienced presence as she stood straight beside the teacher.Ronan wasn't exactly amused when helper number two turned out to be Red, who looked like he belonged in the class, or at most a year above it.The dragon was already distracted with Alestra, who had managed to pick it up and gently cradle it in her arms, receiving a rumbling purr as a response. It was weird, she was th

After scaling a few levels of the roof, they found a cracked window and slipped into an empty guest room, the door to the hall barely ajar to show its lack of a guest.Veronica could see the sliver of a guard's shadow to the left, her hopes withering as she looked back to the window they had come through. But her gaze fell on the boy instead as he whispered a spell into his cupped hands, a small butterfly glowing with golden light fluttering from his palms and out the door. There was a small commotion as the guard to the left spoke with another one, two pairs of footsteps following the enchantment until they grew silent. The boy lead the mission, tiptoeing through the empty corridor until they rounded a corner to face two guards sitting at the end of the hall.Veronica swallowed her gasp, confused as the boy continued to lead her up to them. She heard a noise when they'd gotten close enough, one of the guards letting out a soft snore as his head drooped against the second guard using

    Chapter 119

Veronica sat on her bed, stuffed like a spring hen but still buzzing with birthday energy. She had only played with one of her gifts throughout the night, a dinged up wooden dagger that she'd managed to hold away from her mother until the gazes of the guests forced her to allow the gift to remain in her hands. She had looked for Mr. Bunny afterwards to show him her new prize, but Horus had informed her of his early departure. She knew that they had planned for today to be their last, but the disappointment lingered nonetheless. She still had one last gift she had hoped to give him.Veronica sighed, grabbing for a fairytale on her shelf instead of the books that had piled from Jackling's tutoring. She had gotten a few new stories to read Cinder before bed, but the phoenix had taken a particular liking to the golden lettering of one title."The Adventures of Locke Lanbrellhande..."She stopped at the small tap that met her ears, glancing at the side of her bed where Cinder was still per

It was all wrong. The corridor was too tight. The guards were too close. Too tall.It was too cold, suffocating. He was meant to be in the room to at least give him some time to think."Are you alright?"The boy snapped to the voice. What was a blink to him, was long enough to land him on the ground, palms to the floor to keep his entire body from shaking. He didn't know how long he had blanked out for, but the king had taken a knee to come closer to him, washed with concern as a few of the surrounding guards hovered over the scene to see where they could offer help."Come lad, can you stand?"His gut twisted at the way he tried to help him up, but with Vera bracing his other side he couldn't very well squirm away from the king. He doubted that he'd even have the energy if he decided to. But he knew now with the scene he'd caused that he would have to respond with more than a nod.Cilvren would have had his translational enchantments up to date, but there was a standing risk of a few

    Chapter 117.2

It had been a little over an hour since the nosy boy named Horus had been dragged off. But the silence finally let him work without prying eyes. The size of the pants had allowed him to stitch pockets inside, just big enough for a dagger to hide beneath the folds on either side. Horus had likely thought he was being smart when he hid his old clothes and daggers from him, but the presence of magic in the air always escaped Lumer senses. He pulled them out of a pile of blankets, finding the rest of his trinkets and the invitation to shove in his pockets. With some hesitation, he bounced the black spool of string in his palm, staring at the shiny silver needle and pocketing the whole thing. He had to be preapred to use anything.Hopefully Veronica wouldn't miss the small thing, nor the black cloak he found in her wardrobe.Blue crystals twinkled at his fingertips as he traced his hand down the cloak. He just needed to be invisible from a distance for a few minutes. Most of the guards had

    Chapter 117

It was the end of the painfullest slumber party in history.Veronica had exorcised her birthday immunity to raid a closet of nearly all its bedsheets, and prop them up as a haphazard blanket fort in her room. It was the perfect mess for the boy to hide in when someone walked in without knocking, but also a tight fit when it came time for sleeping.Veronica had been ushered away at the crack of dawn for the maids to prepare her outfit, which left the boy in Horus' care. He had to get the two of them ready, and hope to the gods that the boy picked up at least half of the common Latos mannerisms he had taught him. But all of that was to the side as Horus stared at the boy tucked into a corner of the blanket fort.Horus didn't know what was weirder. The way he held a few flowered bauble pins out the side of his mouth as he sewed, or the fact that he looked like a seasoned seamstress as he cinched the waist on a pair of pants Veronica had swiped from Adrian. The cut was tall enough for him

The door opened, the boy squatting lower into the tub as Veronica peeked in. She flaunted the tiny beginner's book like a sack full of slivs, tiptoeing up to the tub with a devilish smile."I found it.""You don't have to whisper, we put up a sound block enchantment.""You guys have to teach me!" Veronica piped. She quickly landed on the bar of soap in Horus' hands, putting two and two together at the suds popping in the boy's hair. "Horus, that's soap.""Yeah...""That won't do, it makes your hair all icky." She grabbed a tray full of mysterious pots, smearing at least five of the creams together before her mysterious concoction was complete. No amount of dodging could save the boy from being her test dummy, but the smug way he simply let Veronica rub the bubbly concoction into his hair irked Horus to no end. She grabbed some more of the secret spread, only stopping when not a single black hair could be send through the froth of rose bubbles on his head."You're never going to smell

Veronica surged with confidence, a top and trousers that she had stolen from her brother's room, as well as one red envelope embellished with gold trimmings hiding between two books she had snatched from house Acadrius' library. She had the best idea to get Mr. Bunny safely out of the castle, and perhaps have him earn her parent's favour for a second visit. Her birthday celebration was in two nights. She had been lucky enough to find the spare invites before Ambelsine the records-keeper discarded them all. With the right clothes, he could easily blend with a room full of rich traders and nobility—and walk right out the front door. The guards paid her an odd look as she waved to them, the two at her door hesitating before allowing her into her room. She tried not to show a reaction. She had told Mr. Bunny not to make a sound, the guards would run in with a loud enough crash. But the room before her was empty, the small pile of books and food she had placed for him tidied up.She checke

    Chapter 116

Horus gazed up the hill of crimson steps to Veronica's room. He had counted to five hundred, and found Mr. Jackling well before he found Veronica. Apparently, while counting in a passage behind a closet, Horus had somehow climbed out a window. At least, that was Jackling's truth as he spent the better part of ten minutes going over the dangers of climbing onto roofs with himIt wasn't the first time Veronica had fed him an outlandish tale. But Horus ate up the blame every time. Veronica blabbered when she panicked, which meant she was hiding something. And that something was always better dealt with without the adults getting involved.Adrian would have more than a sharp word for him when he got back to that problem he'd up and abandoned. Things were simpler when the children of Acadrius weren't revulsed at the sight of one another.Horus made quick work of the stairs, fixing a lopsided shoelace and dusting his collar before gently knocking to call his presence. Veronica barreled through the halls, a shiny steel bowl tucked over her head as she carved a clear path to her destination.Adrian's room was so far from her own, privileged to the same hall as her mother and father's bedchambers, and nearly as grandois. When Horus and Adrian weren't scrapping in the courtyards, they were almost always doing something in there.Veronica confirmed her theory as she pressed her ear to the door, letting herself in at the sound of Horus' voice.Adrian was quick to call out her trespassing, stepping out of the hold he had Horus in to cross his arms and slap a sour glare on his face."Don't touch my door.""It's not yours," Veronica snipped back, clutching the bowl tighter as her brother took a challenging step. She quickly stole Horus' attention. "I need your help."Adrian scoffed at her caked shoes. "What's with all the mud? Mom's going to have a fit.""None of your business, I need Horus to help me.""We're practicing. Go get Maria or Jackling to help yo
