The dragon snorted at Red, his wrinkled snout softening as he sniffed the air with growing curiosity. He found the source of the mysterious scent on Veronica, pressing his nose against the small bump under the shoulder fabric of her jacket. Veronica quickly shifted away, but the dragon simply stretched his neck out in response and let out a low purr-like warble at the bump on her shoulder.

The bump responded with a small chirp, and a bright yellow beak popped out from the collar of her jacket, followed by the feathery head of a cute bird with big fiery eyes. It chirped again at the dragon, and pulled the rest of its tiny body out of Veronica's jacket to show off its glowing red feathers with blue and green highlights.

The Phoenix hopped along Veronica's arm and jumped onto the dragon's head without any protest, allowing its long feathery tail to droop over the dragon's nose as it sang a small song.

"I swear dragon, if you try to eat Cinder she'll roast you like Summer Snapperfish." Ve

When classes had finally finished, Ronan retired to his room, since there was nothing of interest he knew of, nor cared to attend. He tried calling the dragon Puff a number of times when it awoke, and during the first few times it simply looked around confused for the said 'Puff', and he was forced to clear up the fact that he was addressing the dragon. When it finally clued in, Ronan could have sworn the dragon went a little misty eyed at being bestowed a name, since its previous owners never cared for such a thing. When he inquired into the dragon's actions however, it regained its indignant aura and with a humph, slithered under his bed.Ronan had pinned down Red by chance when he spotted the Blond's backside as he chatted with Samanthra in the lobby, five younger students stacked with leather bags and their guardians hovering around him. After interrupting the casual conversation he cryptically asked Red how his ride home was going, and if he could help with speeding it up. Samant

  • WAR PLANET: The Phantom    Chapter 22

Ronan stormed over to the loose piece of the wall and jammed his fingers into the grooves. The piece shifted, but he couldn't get enough grip on it to pull it out."I need something pointy..." He stared at Phantom and quickly dropped his flat lips to a frown at the idiocy in his words. Reaching into his shirt, he pulled out his necklace, pried at the piece of wall until he heard a pop, and the piece of loose stone swung open like a bank vault, releasing a thick cloud of white dust that blasted his ebony bangs. As Ronan coughed and shook the dust off his face, Phantom formed an orb of light in his hand, holding it up to the small, dark vault to illuminate a polished white rock. It was sitting snugly at the back of the dusty opening, and held a smaller-in-size resemblance to the white, path opening rocks peppering the forest."There's a Ceptrum controlling it? You don't happen to have one do you?"Ronan stared at the glossy object with a confused frown. "A Ceptrum?""That white stone. I

Ronan tried to hold Red's gaze, but he wasn't interested in his wide-eyed victim, browsing the room again from his vantage point before locking onto Puff with a spark of mischief glowing in the gold of his eyes."Well?"Ronan couldn't feel betrayed at the witch of a smile Puff wore, his heart fogged with plain disappointment as he couldn't risk glaring at Phantom's prompting nods.Puff gave him a satisfied grin, and trotted towards the wall with a distinct, feathery hop."Don't mind him, he sometimes acts loony like that," Ronan blurted, shifting to the side to get in front of Red. "Let's go, he'll follow eventually."His words went in one ear and out the other with Red, the towering blond bumping past his shoulder as he curiously followed the dragon like a cat and yarn. He let out a short hum when the dragon patted a part of the wall with his soft paw, kneeling down to look at the spot with a gasp of realisation."I never noticed this!" he exclaimed pushing his fingers into the creas

The shadow lifted its head to show off its spine chilling face, and slowly crawled towards Ronan. Although his heart was racing out of pure dread, he continued to point at the thing with a shaky arm, while constantly looking at Red, and wondering what the heck he was trying to do. The shadow got so close he was forced to back up, but as he was doing so he stepped on a smooth sheet of metal that didn't feel attracted to his foot, ripping his balance away so he fell against a bookshelf and sent hoards of dust flying everywhere with the impact. His necklace had become unbearably hot, and with his free hand he tore it off and threw it to his side. The shadow stopped for an eternity filled second and looked at where the necklace had fallen, then turned its attention back to him, its tendrilly mass pulling forwards with a wispy sigh. Puff leapt in its path, his soft white fur hardened into a coat of shimmering scales as he gave the creature a yipping growl, letting loose a bubble of a fireb

  • WAR PLANET: The Phantom    Chapter 24

Ronan sat on his bed, the evening light pouring through his window in a washed pool of icy blue. Truvius disappeared again after supper, and Ronan had been contemplating telling Veronica about the strange room all the way to the boy's dorm. She was still unpredictable though, so he settled on saving the reveal for a time that felt right, if it ever came. Phantom had walked through the window to the outdoors, and Puff was sitting on the pillow beside him, licking the dirt and cobwebs out of his paws with his barbed, purple tongue. He'd gone back to being a fluffy dragon, rather than the scaled one he'd witnessed in the room, and Ronan was too tired to think about how the dragon had done it. With a sigh of crushing boredom, he looked at the white envelope on his nightstand and grabbed it. He hadn't fully inspected its contents and was curious as to how it had gained its weight, relieved when the first thing he pulled out was a map of the entire building. After pouring out the pin and

Phantom drooped his shoulders in despair at Ronan's bland goals. "Come on, you're no fun."Ronan sighed and pulled out his cellphone, surprised at how long he'd left it untouched. It had been three days since he was kidnapped, the days painfully carved into the soft walls of his mind as a haunting reminder, a countdown clock ticking too slow for his liking.Just three days had been an eternity and a half.To his relief, his phone couldn't share in his suffering and still had a good amount of power, sitting snug at thirty six percent. He turned it off again, weakly rising to his feet as the cloak of Iridis, and every homely memory he'd ignorantly spent, dragging his shoulders into a curled slouch, his eyes barely open as its cold hood sang a headache to life. He'd gone through more traumatizing situations in those three days than the entire list from sitting in his empty house on Earth. To him, getting off the planet had topped winning the lottery ten times over and adopting a tiger cu

"Where are we going?" Phantom said, while Ronan irritably weaved through the crowds of students rushing to class. Puff struggled to keep up with his speed walking, and was forced to break into a light bouncing trot, snorting and huffing at the lack of consideration."Somewhere nobody will look for me," Ronan growled, twisting his head up to glare at the ceiling. "Is Tella watching me?""No?""Good."Ronan kept his brisk pace, constantly updating with Phantom on Tella's position, until he made it to the empty room. He fished the Ceptrum out of his pocket, and looked around for any unwanted attention, before sticking his hand out with the white stone and calmly saying the password. He touched its grainy surface, smiling as his fingers sank through the sand-like facade and quickly pushing through it to face the creepy blackened corridor.Phantom popped his head through with an attention snatching snap. "I thought you said—""Shut up," Ronan spat, storming down the narrow flight of steps

The ghost sighed, waiting for Ronan's attention before drifting to the middle of the room. It stopped at the thick desk, bending down to try and fit its large mass underneath the cramped space. After a couple shuffles and uncomfortable wiggles, there was a click, and the shadow came back out to reveal a secret hatch in the floor it opened, the gleaming smile still platered to its dead face.Ronan smiled nervously at its unfaltering joy, dipping his head in thanks before looking down into the hatch. Sure enough there was a glossy white stone, and some extra guests had woven the beautiful object a less than complimentary dress of thick cobwebs."There it is!" Phantom cheered, causing Ronan to jump and smack his head on the panel of wood. "Now, take it out and put it in the white circle in front of that bare wall over there."Ronan gave the rock a fearfully disgusted look and failed to move, his fear ridden gaze falling on Phantom."What's wrong?"He gave the thick spiderwebs a long hard

After scaling a few levels of the roof, they found a cracked window and slipped into an empty guest room, the door to the hall barely ajar to show its lack of a guest.Veronica could see the sliver of a guard's shadow to the left, her hopes withering as she looked back to the window they had come through. But her gaze fell on the boy instead as he whispered a spell into his cupped hands, a small butterfly glowing with golden light fluttering from his palms and out the door. There was a small commotion as the guard to the left spoke with another one, two pairs of footsteps following the enchantment until they grew silent. The boy lead the mission, tiptoeing through the empty corridor until they rounded a corner to face two guards sitting at the end of the hall.Veronica swallowed her gasp, confused as the boy continued to lead her up to them. She heard a noise when they'd gotten close enough, one of the guards letting out a soft snore as his head drooped against the second guard using

    Chapter 119

Veronica sat on her bed, stuffed like a spring hen but still buzzing with birthday energy. She had only played with one of her gifts throughout the night, a dinged up wooden dagger that she'd managed to hold away from her mother until the gazes of the guests forced her to allow the gift to remain in her hands. She had looked for Mr. Bunny afterwards to show him her new prize, but Horus had informed her of his early departure. She knew that they had planned for today to be their last, but the disappointment lingered nonetheless. She still had one last gift she had hoped to give him.Veronica sighed, grabbing for a fairytale on her shelf instead of the books that had piled from Jackling's tutoring. She had gotten a few new stories to read Cinder before bed, but the phoenix had taken a particular liking to the golden lettering of one title."The Adventures of Locke Lanbrellhande..."She stopped at the small tap that met her ears, glancing at the side of her bed where Cinder was still per

It was all wrong. The corridor was too tight. The guards were too close. Too tall.It was too cold, suffocating. He was meant to be in the room to at least give him some time to think."Are you alright?"The boy snapped to the voice. What was a blink to him, was long enough to land him on the ground, palms to the floor to keep his entire body from shaking. He didn't know how long he had blanked out for, but the king had taken a knee to come closer to him, washed with concern as a few of the surrounding guards hovered over the scene to see where they could offer help."Come lad, can you stand?"His gut twisted at the way he tried to help him up, but with Vera bracing his other side he couldn't very well squirm away from the king. He doubted that he'd even have the energy if he decided to. But he knew now with the scene he'd caused that he would have to respond with more than a nod.Cilvren would have had his translational enchantments up to date, but there was a standing risk of a few

    Chapter 117.2

It had been a little over an hour since the nosy boy named Horus had been dragged off. But the silence finally let him work without prying eyes. The size of the pants had allowed him to stitch pockets inside, just big enough for a dagger to hide beneath the folds on either side. Horus had likely thought he was being smart when he hid his old clothes and daggers from him, but the presence of magic in the air always escaped Lumer senses. He pulled them out of a pile of blankets, finding the rest of his trinkets and the invitation to shove in his pockets. With some hesitation, he bounced the black spool of string in his palm, staring at the shiny silver needle and pocketing the whole thing. He had to be preapred to use anything.Hopefully Veronica wouldn't miss the small thing, nor the black cloak he found in her wardrobe.Blue crystals twinkled at his fingertips as he traced his hand down the cloak. He just needed to be invisible from a distance for a few minutes. Most of the guards had

    Chapter 117

It was the end of the painfullest slumber party in history.Veronica had exorcised her birthday immunity to raid a closet of nearly all its bedsheets, and prop them up as a haphazard blanket fort in her room. It was the perfect mess for the boy to hide in when someone walked in without knocking, but also a tight fit when it came time for sleeping.Veronica had been ushered away at the crack of dawn for the maids to prepare her outfit, which left the boy in Horus' care. He had to get the two of them ready, and hope to the gods that the boy picked up at least half of the common Latos mannerisms he had taught him. But all of that was to the side as Horus stared at the boy tucked into a corner of the blanket fort.Horus didn't know what was weirder. The way he held a few flowered bauble pins out the side of his mouth as he sewed, or the fact that he looked like a seasoned seamstress as he cinched the waist on a pair of pants Veronica had swiped from Adrian. The cut was tall enough for him

The door opened, the boy squatting lower into the tub as Veronica peeked in. She flaunted the tiny beginner's book like a sack full of slivs, tiptoeing up to the tub with a devilish smile."I found it.""You don't have to whisper, we put up a sound block enchantment.""You guys have to teach me!" Veronica piped. She quickly landed on the bar of soap in Horus' hands, putting two and two together at the suds popping in the boy's hair. "Horus, that's soap.""Yeah...""That won't do, it makes your hair all icky." She grabbed a tray full of mysterious pots, smearing at least five of the creams together before her mysterious concoction was complete. No amount of dodging could save the boy from being her test dummy, but the smug way he simply let Veronica rub the bubbly concoction into his hair irked Horus to no end. She grabbed some more of the secret spread, only stopping when not a single black hair could be send through the froth of rose bubbles on his head."You're never going to smell

    Chapter 116.2

Veronica surged with confidence, a top and trousers that she had stolen from her brother's room, as well as one red envelope embellished with gold trimmings hiding between two books she had snatched from house Acadrius' library. She had the best idea to get Mr. Bunny safely out of the castle, and perhaps have him earn her parent's favour for a second visit. Her birthday celebration was in two nights. She had been lucky enough to find the spare invites before Ambelsine the records-keeper discarded them all. With the right clothes, he could easily blend with a room full of rich traders and nobility—and walk right out the front door. The guards paid her an odd look as she waved to them, the two at her door hesitating before allowing her into her room. She tried not to show a reaction. She had told Mr. Bunny not to make a sound, the guards would run in with a loud enough crash. But the room before her was empty, the small pile of books and food she had placed for him tidied up.She checke

    Chapter 116

Horus gazed up the hill of crimson steps to Veronica's room. He had counted to five hundred, and found Mr. Jackling well before he found Veronica. Apparently, while counting in a passage behind a closet, Horus had somehow climbed out a window. At least, that was Jackling's truth as he spent the better part of ten minutes going over the dangers of climbing onto roofs with himIt wasn't the first time Veronica had fed him an outlandish tale. But Horus ate up the blame every time. Veronica blabbered when she panicked, which meant she was hiding something. And that something was always better dealt with without the adults getting involved.Adrian would have more than a sharp word for him when he got back to that problem he'd up and abandoned. Things were simpler when the children of Acadrius weren't revulsed at the sight of one another.Horus made quick work of the stairs, fixing a lopsided shoelace and dusting his collar before gently knocking to call his presence. Veronica barreled through the halls, a shiny steel bowl tucked over her head as she carved a clear path to her destination.Adrian's room was so far from her own, privileged to the same hall as her mother and father's bedchambers, and nearly as grandois. When Horus and Adrian weren't scrapping in the courtyards, they were almost always doing something in there.Veronica confirmed her theory as she pressed her ear to the door, letting herself in at the sound of Horus' voice.Adrian was quick to call out her trespassing, stepping out of the hold he had Horus in to cross his arms and slap a sour glare on his face."Don't touch my door.""It's not yours," Veronica snipped back, clutching the bowl tighter as her brother took a challenging step. She quickly stole Horus' attention. "I need your help."Adrian scoffed at her caked shoes. "What's with all the mud? Mom's going to have a fit.""None of your business, I need Horus to help me.""We're practicing. Go get Maria or Jackling to help yo
