In the evening, at the mission hall.
Bontu just arrived on a muscular and was shocked upon hearing that they finished five missions in the span of twelve hours. “Are you guys even sleeping?”
“We would love to, but we don’t get paid to sleep, do we?” Edgar asked back.
“Still, sleep is important,” Bontu stressed his words.
“Yeah, but don’t ask about that,” Edgar took out a sack and handed it to Bontu.
“Mm? What’s this?”
“Check it yourself,” said Edgar.
After opening the sack and looking inside, Bontu’s eyes expanded upon seeing more than a hun
The Great Wash was the testing ground for foot disciples, where they could be promoted to outer disciples, given they passed the required number of tests. It took Bontu hours to get to the testing grounds, as a lot of challenges kept popping in his way. For instance, there were some children who were begging for money. These were born inside the sect, and so they were also foot disciples like him, and though there were missions made especially for those around the level of the kids, they were mostly taken away by other outer disciples, leaving these kids with nothing but tougher missions that they couldn’t hope to finish. As a result, most of the children served other adult foot disciples, whereas a few resorted to begging in secret. Even though the children looked weak, Bontu didn’t give them any money or the evergreat coins. He just gave them some food.
“I’m sorry. I can’t see you, so I’m not really sure of your identity,” the daughter replied. “But if you know me, then you should know how good I am. Please tell my father that I’m not a thief!”“Spouting scripted lines again, this little…” Bontu controlled himself as he didn’t want to fail, in which case a hundred evergreat coins would go to waste. (She must be the one who stole the coin. I’m sure.)He then looked at the last one, the innocent-looking boy. “You… What happened to your mouth? Did you not wash your teeth or what?” he purposely teased. The boy shook his head.“Did you steal the coin?”
Three days later.Edgar and Fabby had been busy doing missions left and right. For simple missions like ‘Delivering hydra eggs to a master,’ or ‘Supplying lunch to the officers at the mines,’ both the siblings didn’t work. Only one of them worked for the mission, while the other one was busy practicing and honing their skills in the shade of trees near the mission hall itself. But for tough missions like gathering the herbs or feathers or those that demanded physical labor, they worked together. In the past three days itself, they took thirty four missions and finished them all successfully. Now, they were doing five-star sigma-grade missions, so they earned five evergreat coins for every mission, but then either the difficulty or the time i
In the evening.“So he joined the sect as a master last year under the name of Borubo, the same time when Kane also joined. Clearly things are adding up,” Macho was reading a report sent from Gavin. “Borubo might also be using a skin mask, but what is his purpose?” He glanced at Selly. “Do you know him?”“I’ve only met him once while on a mission,” Selly was eating a guava. She hated fruits that didn’t have texture to them, which made guava one of her favorite fruits. “He seemed boring, so I didn’t bother getting to know him.”“Mm… His pimples were all for show then. Just to keep unnecessary trouble away. Dig everything you can about this guy. His disciples, and all the people he’s acquainted with,” Macho glanced a
The arrow whizzed through the air and closed in on Lily’s brother, but a blade made a block in time. Held in a somewhat tight grip, it didn’t not move a millimeter during the impact.“It’s one after another,” the guard looked displeased as he landed back on the ground near the entrance. “This is why I hate living beings. They only know best to disrespect others. They are so foolish to disrespect their superiors, their emperor, and even God.” He pulled the arrow all the way back while looking at Edgar. “A mere foot disciple who doesn’t respect the hierarchy doesn’t get to live.” The arrow got covered with red drive right before he let go of it.Fabby had just calmed herself, but because the guard wasn’t moving his feet, she couldn’t tell whether he was preparing to shoot or not.
Dust hung around as mist like a cloud on the ground. “Go and enjoy your meal, my dear,” the guard said in a lustful tone. And the pink-haired woman jumped over the guard and charged at Edgar like a dog running after a bone. Though her movements seemed rigid initially, she became more and more flexible with every step she took. “I don't know who you are, but don’t fight for him,” Edgar shouted, but she didn’t even pause in her run and came straight at him. He sheathed his blades and readied himself. But to his surprise, instead of throwing a fist, she jumped at him like a cat trying to catch another cat. Edgar quickly locked his hands with her hands, but to his shock, she tried to bite him with her mouth. “Eek!” he moved his head away, but she bit through his whole right ear. Edgar tried to jump away, but to add t
Edgar shut his mouth to stop spilling the blood, but some of it still dripped from the corners anyway.ZUP~~!!An arrow came speeding at Edgar, aimed straight at his forehead. He urged his hand to move, and it did. He tried to deflect the arrow, but it exploded upon impact with the blade, and Edgar got sent rolling back; he got back to his feet at the cost of spilling a mouthful of blood. The woman was still hanging by her hand that was lodged in Edgar’s belly. She grinned evilly and tried to thrust her other hand at his chest. He grabbed her wrist and stopped her. She growled madly, and the lower half of her body that was standing still suddenly jumped and her foot struck Edgar’s face. This was no ordinary kick. His nose got squashed, and he got blown back. At the same time, the woman pulled the hand th
Edgar readied himself to face the incoming arrows. The guard faintly smiled. (Yeah, that’s it. Face them just like that. The moment the arrow hits, it explodes, and the others in line will then join in and cause a chain explosion. After it’s all done, you’ll be blown into unrecognizable pieces of bloody mess!)CRACK~! SHAKE~!The earth in front of Edgar cracked and reverberated, and out of it rose tall spikes pointing in random directions, forcing Edgar to jump back. And all the incoming arrows struck the earthen spikes and exploded together, startling Edgar as he got pushed back by the waves set off by the explosion. If he had blocked those arrows, there was no guessing what could have happened to him. He thanked his sister in his heart for the help.
