CHAPTER 88

Derek could only nod slowly, fear enveloping his entire body. Edward stood back up and signaled Emily Algren's bodyguards.

“Drag him away from here,” Edward ordered firmly.

Emily's bodyguards quickly approached Derek, pulling him roughly off the floor. Derek's limp and helpless body was dragged out of the room, like a street dog. Each tug made Derek feel more and more like his bones were falling out of his joints.

Now Edward turned to Hugo who was still frozen after seeing his son being dragged like a street dog.

Edward looked at Hugo sharply, as if penetrating the lies he might be hiding. He stepped closer, the sound of his shoes echoing in the suddenly quiet room after Derek was dragged out.

Emily Algren stood beside him, her face implying the same tension.

“Mr. Vesper,” Edward began in a low but threatening voice.

Hugo's body trembled again. He looked down in fear at Edward's frightening voice. “I-yes, sir.”

“Do you know the consequences if you play around with us?” asked Edward
