At The First Destination

Chapter 1 Part 3

Strangely, Amran came back to where we were along with the new girl, and she was still holding the two short swords but now with both of them in one hand. I took that as a chance and introduced myself, "Hello, my name is Aden." Then I pointed at the girls behind me and said, "Ladies, introduce yourselves, please." I was only able to introduce two of them since we claimed the third girl was with us and I don't know her, I wasn't able to introduce just the two of them and leave the third. I myself was curious to know the new girl's name, but about her story, I left that for a later time, since the situation was not favorable at the moment.

After the two girls introduced themselves, the third one also did the same and said, "Hello, my name is Adline." Then we looked at the boy, and I don't know why, but he sighed before he answered and said, "Nice meeting you all, my name is Luke, this is my sister-in-law." He paused for a second and continued without telling us their names, "And those are her two kids. I apologize, I can't say anything more now. There are around 12 armed men approaching us, and they are going to reach us within 10 seconds."

I looked at the open screen in front of me, and since I didn't have time to practice any of the weapons in my inventory and I didn't know how to use any of them, I had to choose something anyway, so I chose the long-range laser gun. I had no idea how it was going to appear, so I just extended my hand in front of me, but fortunately something similar to a square box appeared in front of my extended hand, and came out of that space came something with the shape of a gun about 8" (eight inches around twenty centimeters).

I held it in my hand immediately. I was sure that this was the first time in my life I had held a real gun in my hand. Even with games, it was just a virtual gun using the keyboard to operate it. I wondered how I would be able to shoot anything with this thing. There was no manual for it; I thought that at least they should have provided an operating manual with it, but unfortunately, there was nothing like that at the same time. It came to my mind naturally, like I knew exactly what it was and how to use it. That is, of course, thanks to an A.I. chip that has been implemented in my brain. Now I know how to use it, but the most important question is, will I be able to use it actually in a real fight against a living human being?

It seemed that while I was thinking of such things, the boy was observing me with me. Nothing him. I don't know for how long I have been thinking about this or how long the boy has been looking at me. I just heard the boy telling me in a harsh tone, "Don't think about it. If you do, this will be the last day of your life." Without waiting for a reply from me, he told the girls with a commanding tone, "You two without weapons, come closer to the rock, you with swords, stay behind them and check our backs." "And you, cover my left side and always stay behind the rock unless you are shooting back." He addressed me in the same way he said that and added, "They are here, be ready to engage."

.... ... .....

Amun's point of view

After Ajbadan said, "Let's keep on going; I also think that we need to find people so we can figure out where we are." He moved forward, and we all followed him. Since this was the only obvious option, we had to figure out where we were. Although there was danger involved with that option as well, there was still nothing else we could do. It didn't take us long to reach where the action was going on, that is when Ajbadan raised his hand, signaling for us to stop, and like a military unit, we all stopped at the same time. I tried to see what he saw and made him stop us, but unfortunately, all I was able to see was some shadows moving in front of us about twenty meters ahead.

The distance was not that far, sure, I was able to see even further than that, but the obstacles were the dense forest, which was preventing me from seeing anything further than a few meters ahead of me. Still, what was obvious to me was that they were one of the parties that were fighting, and this was an enforcement to one of them, luckily, none of them noticed us and they kept moving forward. The logical thing to do in our case was to wait and see what was going on there before we made our selves known to them, and if I was able to reach that conclusion, obviously Ajbadan also reached that conclusion and decided to monitor the situation from his location.

And once more he signaled to us to go down, actually, even before we saw his signal, I was the first one to do that, and Azmar did the same since he was holding my hand when he saw me do it. Raco was the only one who followed Ajbadan's signal a few seconds after me and Azmar, he was only a few steps ahead of us, so even whispering as he did, we were able to hear him saying "Stay here, I will go and check what is going on." We didn't say anything; we just nodded as an agreement to his suggestion or order since it was more like an order than a suggestion.

My mind started to spin in an overdrive mode without my consent and started projecting scenarios one after another; most of them were a presentation of what if this happened or if that happened, and the conclusion was that we are in an anticipated situation, a situation that we didn't account for, which simply means that we are going to engage in fights we didn't ask for and didn't prepare for.

I don't know what kind of weapon the other two have on themselves, but for sure, Azmar and I don't have any weapons, so that means we are going to be an easy target for the other party. The only solution I reached was to avoid any confrontation with them. But how likely that would happen, I was not sure of. While I was thinking about that I noticed Ajbadan coming back, and when he reached us he said in a low voice, "They are 12 heavily armed men, and their target appears to be six adults and two children hiding behind a big boulder." He paused for a second and continued, "Also, there was evidence of a previous fight which resulted in a few casualties, I guess both parties are professionals, so whatever the reason is, it's not a single easy matter but a complicated issue."
