Musical vibrations synchronized with Aiko’s soul. The gentle, relaxing melody created an infinite ripple of petals and blooms. Every motion and every vibration sounded enchanting. It reverberated in her mind, causing a single tear to slip by. That sound. That sweet tune was too familiar. The girl turned around to find a stunning young woman brushing her fingers against a well-made string lute. An instrument with a neck similar in length to that of a guitar but without the frets. She sat on the riverbank, enjoying the morning light.
- “Daisuke would have wanted that. Can I…?”
Aiko murmured. She wanted to walk closer to the girl to get a better look at that instrument. Ever since he was a little boy, Daisuke longed for it. He wanted to hear that beautiful melody. But, couldn’t do it with his make-shift lute. That’s when, Yakeru placed his firm palm on her small shoulder, putting an end to her mindless babbling.
- “That’s a shamisen.” – he explained. “A traditional instrument. She won’t give it to you. If that’s what you are asking.”
- “No…I just…”
Then, the girl felt another warm palm. Soft skin pressing gently against her cold exposed nape. It was Kana’s alluring touch. It kept her mind at ease. Aiko raised her head and took a good look at her surroundings. The place she overlooked because of the hypnotizing music was now a remarkable masterpiece.
There was a hug of houses packed in a tight space. Buildings made of erected wooden columns over a flat foundation of stones. Each house stood over the tranquil canal waterfront. Reflecting its walls and windows in the crystal-clear water.
Countless trees, flowers, and immaculate bushes decorated the place. Bringing forth a perfect smell. But, there was nothing more captivating than the cherry blossom trees planted one after the other across the riverbank. The wind carried the delicate flowers all around the village. Their pink petals came as a serenade, creating a remarkable lavish spectacle. But, the moment a petal fell from the tree, another grew in its place. Every flower here was in full bloom. Never withering. Never fading.
The men and women who lived here were like family. Their facial features were quite familiar, making it difficult to distinguish one from the other. They all radiated a stunning beauty. Unearthly charm. They minded their own business. Bathing in the river, sitting by their houses, enjoying their meals.
Although it looked like a typical village in Azidora, the air felt somewhat captivating. Shining with charisma and temptation. At a first glance, it felt similar to the Demon’s Apple. Yet, the atmosphere here seemed timider compared to the succubus inn.
- “This is Hanami. Home to the nymphs.” – Kana smiled. “To be honest, this is the only place in Elidy that reminds me of home. If only more villages were like this.”
But Aiko didn’t seem at all fazed by the attractive faces and astonishing surroundings. Her mind was stuck in the past. That’s when she recalled the last conversation she had with Tabarg, the elder of Ringborg Cay.
Right after she woke up, the cyclops waited for her by the campfire. This time, Aiko didn’t have the courage to approach him. But, when Kana teleported back, she took her by the hand and her heart welcomed the sorceress’s warming presence. Together, they faced the giant.
- “Sit.” – he said. His voice as firm as ever.
Aiko glanced at Kana. After a reassuring nod and a calming smile, the girl felt safe again. She took a seat by the campfire with the sorceress by her side. Ren gulped but joined them soon after. Landing in Aiko’s warm lap.
The colossal being bent over, placing his massive palm over the girl’s head. His enormous hand cast a shadow over Aiko, covering her from head to toe. If he wanted to, he could squash her like a little bug. Aiko just stared into his chapped skin. That’s when she felt it. Mana oozing out of his fingers. Sparks of glistening white energy found their way towards her forehead and seeped into her skin. When the glow dimmed, the giant opened his eyes. There was a hint of surprise in his pupils. He never expected to witness what he saw.
- “Pure? You are still innocent and pure?”
It was her life. He witnessed every fraction of her being. Everything she saw, everything that ever happened to her leaked into the cyclops mind. All those memories, behaviors, emotions that she remembers were now clear as day. Tabarg never anticipated such a blissful sight.
- “What do you mean?” – Aiko was stupefied.
- “For real?!” – Yakeru chuckled. You came from Wolfmore, kid. A slave. Didn’t you?”
- “Yes.”
- “How is that even a thing?!”
- “I don’t understand…”
- “Ehm… Aiko is fine. She doesn’t need to worry about that.”
- “Worry about what, Ren?”
- “Oh, I see. You kept her safe all this time.” – Kana smiled.
- “That’s what I’m here for.” – the pup let out a proud giggle.
- “So, that’s why you like that place so much. It all makes sense now. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, kid, but you have to learn things the fast way.” – Yakeru brushed his fingers against her hair.
- “No! I won’t let you do that!!!”
Ren let out a low rumbling growl. He curled up his gums to reveal sharp white teeth. The pup stared into Yakeru’s eyes, mana oozing from his pupils reshaping his furry little paws into dangerous claws. Ren already knew his fate. If he were to fight this adventurer, he would surely die in the process. But, at least, he could try to rip his tongue out so he wouldn’t speak. His breathing got quieter. All he wanted to do was stop them from saying anything more. Ren's actions took the young girl by surprise. This was such a sudden change in pace.
- “What is going on? Ren! Stop it! What truth?! I know everything about Wolfmore. I grew up there. I’ve been there my whole life.”
- “Aiko! There is no need to listen to their nonsense. Just follow me. We will get out of here. See? I have my mana back. I can morph into my main form and get you out of here. I can protect you. Let’s go!” – Ren reached out his paw, his voice was shaking. He was obviously panicking.
- “Ren!” – she smiled and hugged the pup. “I’m so glad you can be yourself again. I can’t believe a week passed. Maybe even more… We got beaten up so many times, it’s normal for your mana to take its time.” – she giggled. “But, remember what Kana said? I have to see everything to the very end so that I can change this world. I want to help these women. I want to do something. Isn’t that right, Kana?”
- “Yes. Remember, Aiko. Whatever happens, I will stay by your side.” – the sorceress gave her a reassuring smile.
- “See? She is strong. She can keep both of us safe. Do you trust me?”
- “Are you sure?”
The pup raised his head to meet her eyes. Those cute puppy eyes of his were desperately trying to hold the tears in. Aiko was worried for a moment, but brushed it off and hugged him even tighter.
- “I’m sure.”
- “Of course, I trust you silly…”
- “Then, do it. Tell me.” – Aiko faced the cyclops brimming with confidence.
- “I won’t tell you. I will show you.”
The elder woke up the dancing flames once more. The heatwave brought forth a new image, the streets of Wolfmore from days long past. The place was noisy, construction and digging were in full swing. There was so much life in this place, it was just like her memory. It warmed her heart to see it once more. The mines where Daisuke and she used to spend the time. The tunnels they used to mine. All the people she called family. They were all there. As if the monster attack never happened.
That’s when she saw herself. A four-year-old child sitting in the middle of the desert. Devoid of any sustenance. Yet dressed in proper attire, adorned with bright beautiful colors. It was a classic ruffle dress, typical for a child born in the middle class. Since rarely any humans had the opportunity to prosper in these lands, the girl looked relatively blessed. If it weren’t for the hunger written all over her face, she would have easily passed as a child of a traveling merchant.
To her, the sandy dunes looked like pudding. The wind that brushed it away made it appear like fried rice. Aiko couldn’t remember the last time she had a filling meal like that. But, her younger self knew that taste all too well. She longed for the smell of a home-cooked meal. One that she used to have.
All those forgotten feelings and emotions swirled into Aiko’s head. Everything that her younger self felt was now embedded in her mind. As if Aiko was right there, reliving these moments one more time. The toddler was scared, yet calm at the same time. Waiting for someone to come and get her. Aiko couldn’t remember who she waited for back then. But, in her little mind, there was a figure she desperately wanted to see. Unfortunately, she never came back. The only person she met was an elf guard from the Wolfmore mining village. The elf took a good look at the girl and briefly scouted her surroundings. She was all alone.
- “Another pig to the pile.” – he chuckled. “They toss them out like some sort of garbage. Fitting. At least, I should put her to good use.”
- “To gain a power that rivals the goddess, you must ascend.” – continued the elder, while Aiko was staring at the vision in the fire. “Ascension will release you from your body. Your physical limits. Everything that’s caging you to this mortal realm. But, to ascend you must learn the truth. You must embrace your past to learn where you came from.”
That’s when a memory came swarming back. That figure she saw after the shuriken pierced her skin. That stunning young woman with flowing golden curls, ivory skin, and piercing white eyes. Her words rang in her mind like a quiet echo.
- “Remember…Remember your past. Remember how you ended up in that mining village.”
- “Maybe that’s why I’m supposed to see this. Maybe…just maybe, the image will show who put me here.” – the girl thought to herself.
- “Revealing your past is the first step to your journey. But also the most important one.”
The flame took her attention away. She felt the elf’s firm hand pressing against her fragile wrist. It was strong. His fingers wrapped around her skin like iron shackles. He dragged her through the streets of Wolfmore and tossed her in front of a familiar hut. She tumbled to the floor, ending up with a bruise on her left knee. Her beautiful dress was now smudged. Dirt covered those pretty frills. The sound of the girl hitting the floor startled the residents. A woman rushed out. Her husband quickly followed. Their facial features were nostalgic. Their eyes reminded her of their endless wisdom and love. Although they looked years younger, she immediately recognized the figures in the fire.
- “Miss Lena and Mister Ron!” – Aiko laughed. Their appearance warmed her heart, vanquishing that pain in the knee.
- “Clean her up. I’ll take her to Glanaram tomorrow. There is a slave market planned in a couple of weeks' time. This one is a good catch.”
There was no emotion in the way the elf talked. At this moment, his dark twilight eyes were like a gateway to his soul. In his mind, this little defenseless girl was no more than a thing. Merchandise that should be sold.
- “Please. Let me take care of her, instead. She will make an excellent miner. Let me teach her our ways and she will give you profit beyond measure.”
There was kindness in Lena’s eyes, a pure gentleness. It was the eyes of the one who has seen the pits of hell but wanted to protect that innocent little child from experiencing it herself. She was the kind of person who believed she could bring this girl into a different world. She could give her a different life, and keep her safe at the same time. In her mind, the upbringing she offered would be worth it in the long while.
- “Lena!!!”
But, the emotions in her husband pictured a different story. He was horrified. Nothing could calm that fear that bottled up inside. Ron, grabbed his wife by the hand and pulled her back inside. All in an effort to stop her from refusing the guard’s order. But, before she could fully retreat, the guard’s fist landed in her stomach. The elf punched the breath out of her. Ron was petrified.
- “Are you certain?” – the elf let out an evil smile.
- “Yes!” – the woman coughed blood, but didn’t waver. “Do whatever you want with me. Just, let her go.”
- “Please…Lena. Stop. Stop this. It’s not worth it.” – her husband sobbed.
- “Fine. Then meet me in the chamber to receive your punishment. Feel free to join us if you like, filth.”
The elf turned around to face Ron, his sickening smile unchanging. Then, he tossed the little girl inside and turned around to leave.
- “Stay here.” – Lena gave Ron a gentle smile. “Remember, every life is precious.”
- “But…” – he couldn’t stop the tears streaming down his face.
- “Trust me, my love. It’s worth it. Every child should have a good future. It’s up to us to give them that.”
Aiko was now frozen stiff. The vision in the flame made her blood run cold. Anxiety leaked through every section of her system coursing through her veins, like a devastating poison. A poison so strong, it took over her body. Her limbs felt like they were torn apart, and her upper body was now useless.
The mining tunnels became the arteries of Wolfmore, blackened by the abuse that’s been going on for years. The beatings and torture behind closed doors went on and on without end. The only ones who were exempt were the little children. While the corpses of those who tried to retaliate were fed to the lizards that lived nearby. Every day more humans died but were quickly replaced by new ones recently captured during an elven raid. In just two years, the slaves lost their will to fight back. They decided it was best to surrender and live their lives to the fullest. All for the sake of the children. Aiko stared in horror. Then, the girl stood up. Every muscle in her body shook. Wolfmore was nothing like she remembered. What she had for this mining village was only a childish image. A foolish expectation. Fleeting hope. -“What is this?! Ren? Is this…is it true?” -&nb
A multitude of dark clouds darkened the sky. Soon, a thick veil of black fog descended upon Hanami village. Then, the sky opened. A massive crack ripped through the heavens causing the vast universe to peek through. The wider it became, the easier it was to see countless stars and planets scattered across the galaxy. -“A Breach!” – Kana declared. -“Here?!” – Yakeru was shocked. -“They found her.” -“Pfft…Hahaha!” – Yakeru burst out laughing. “I’ll fuck them up so bad, their wrinkled ugly skin will strengthen.” Just when the crack gaped, another one formed right next to it. And then another, and another, until the entire wild blue yonder tore wide under the pressure. One Breach was all it took to erase Wolfmore from the world. Now, with over a dozen cracks
Tonight Ennore was brimming with lights. The lanterns fueled by magic, hovering in the sky became a focal point. The crossing bridges, magical waterfalls, perfectly constructed sky towers, and grounded buildings were the epitome of the elven kingdom. As if these pristine white avenues were never exposed to the deadly scourge that roamed the lands. The roads laid empty. The citizens inside their homes seemed to be waiting for something. They heard the sound of boots long before they saw a mass of bodies gathering. Countless human beings stood in formation. Dozens of rows flocked the streets, their eyes trained to look ahead. The army was packed with men, covered in armor from head to toe. Their faces blanched, unreadable under the shadows of their iron helmets. To these soldiers, it was boiling hot outside. Their armor was too heavy and thick, trapping their body heat and soaking their skin with sweat. Nevertheless, their gaze remained resolute. They were obviously used to th
William’s nostrils filled with the smell of blood. The spasms in his stomach became so overwhelming, he could barely hold back the nausea. Part of him hoped that at this moment, he would be elsewhere. Not staring at their skin turning pale and their eyes becoming opaque. Having a form of a bird and a human face, he thought that killing them would feel easier. It would feel as if this is just another quest. But, their cries, screams, and desperate pleads for help made his skin crawl. -“What have I done? What are we doing?” He thought to himself. Yesterday William was drinking the finest wine and enjoyed the most lavish feast, and now he is here chopping their heads off. No amount of horror could prepare him for witnessing the hopelessness and agony ripping these harpies from the inside out. All he knew was that their weapons and choices in life put the world in danger. But, with every harpy that fell, his
The waters of the frozen fjord shone like an unrefined pristine jewel as if the watery surface emerged from both above and below. Just when the eyes would get used to the calm and tranquil bliss of pure divine, the area changed into a bloody scenery. A massive glacier broke through the ice and flew towards the woman’s unguarded cheeks. Though Nora dodged the onslaught with ease, a transient, yet overwhelmingly powerful wave came forth, pushing her back once more. Mesmerized by the speed and power of the watery gaze, the assassin felt tension building up inside. And when the woman finally stood on solid ground to take a breath, mineral rocks lifted by the power of magical steam rose upward and flew towards her feet. The burning stones dug deep near the thousands of glaciers already covering the floor, quickly melting everything that stood nearby. If those rocks were to hit her, she would have immediately lost her ability to walk. The woman’s jaw clenched. <
The dark woods were wrapped with the voices from beyond. The countless nocturnal entities moved swiftly with the wind, merging with the hug of grey. The light of the shining moon grew dimmer. The obnoxiously tall trees and thick mist wouldn’t let a single ray of light reach these places. As if the area was completely secluded from the outside world. A young girl reached for the entities that moved about. Their velvet bodies brushed against her skin as they passed. Their forgotten voices soothed her soul. She felt their cries, worries, and anger. Some longed to meet their loved ones. Others wished for a second chance. While the rest cried for revenge. There was a gentle brilliance in the way her hands moved, a stunning confidence. The girl felt comfortable around spirits as if this was her second nature. -“Paige! What are you doing? Move! We are running out of time!!!” A man’s voice pierced the echoes of the dead
Each city across Elidy had its own heartbeat, a unique essence that separated it from the rest of places. But, this city was a different kind of gem, an art in every sense. For the sights reinvented the thoughts of a normal community, forming both small and big cityscapes that somehow merged well. On the right, the area was covered with massive sky towers. With sizable parks, great open spaces, and greenery in even the tiniest of spaces. Constructed with the similar pure white stone used in Azidora, these towers were a marvel to behold. Tall, pointy, with not so spacious rooms, yet plenty of living space. Compared to the elven capital, these buildings relied on huge glass windows to brighten up the homes. The vibrant glass paint as gorgeous as ever, giving each structure a unique, avant-garde vibe. This part of the city was kept by ball-like machines fueled by magic. These tools were responsible for cleaning, organizing, and taking care of the place. As if they knew
The towering walls collapsed. Their voices trailed softly as a massive winged creature with a lion’s body and a head of an eagle swooped in. That exhilarating plunge took down the narrow halls, creating a wide-open battlefield. If it weren’t for Kana’s watery embrace and Yakeru’s overbearing scythe, everyone would lay flat on the ground, either suffocated by dirt or buried under the rubble. When the dust settled, a tall elf approached. With each stride, her thoughts became more resolute, as if the shrinking distance between them finally made her feel complete. As the light caressed her light grey skin, with a hint of purple and green hue, she entombed her memories of Kana and her into a thick wall of ice. -“Lara.” – the sorceress mumbled. Although she wore sturdy grey armor, the skin between both her chests was left revealed, showing just how much confidence she had in her skills to keep her heart out of harm’s
The rain came with a confident wind, rousing the trees and fires into a vortex. Each raindrop – a kaleidoscope, covering the library in a comforting blanket. The phoenix couldn’t help but wonder, as it was lying on the floor exhausted, what it would feel like if it could stop time and just look at it. Observe each watery bubble before it touched the ground. The fires on its wings dimmed, and the phoenix morphed into a small human. Welcoming every drop with his outstretched fingers. Like he always wanted to. Soon, the rain formed puddles, followed by a cool freshness in the breeze. Most of the Library of Pergamon was in ruins. Thankfully, the rain came when it did, or the rest of this grand building would have succumbed to the flames.Paige woke up suddenly, not because her clothes were soaked, but because she remembered what she was up against. An entire demon army. Her eyes tried to adapt to the light and rain. She had no idea how long she slept. The only thing that sent her on edge
With a crack as loud as thunder, the third statue split from its pedestal. The entire thing accelerated down and crushed into this unfamiliar woman. Amplified by the figure’s powerful magics, this statue sent forth an immense shockwave, toppling the walls and limiting their visibility. The woman coughed.- “Really?”- “It was worth a try.” – the figure shrugged.- “There…is…no need to fight.”Aiko retaliated as she tried to release her neck from the woman’s suffocating magic. But, as soon as she said that, the mysterious woman waved a hand, and Aiko found herself glued to the wall and with a fractured skull. Although Aiko was out cold, her godlike powers focused on stopping the bleeding and getting her body back in shape.- “You know you can’t kill us, right?” – the figure added.- “Who said I want to kill you?”- “You are damn sure acting like it.”- “I just want you to know your place. That’s it.”- “I can relate to that.” – the figure chuckled. “Actually, I’ve been meaning to ask.”
[ During the rule of the God of Time - 5,000 BE* ]*BE – Before Elidy*AE – After ElidyA woman strode forward. Her long legs and slender arms exposed beneath her silky, almost transparent dress. Her massive wings carried her across the sky, leaving behind a powerful gust of wind. Her green, transparent hair, decorated with a dozen golden accessories danced with the breeze. When she landed, the elf guards greeted her with respect. This woman was a stunning beauty, with a slim face, full lips, and a distinctive jawline. She resembled an elf, as she was almost as tall as them. But, her eyes were a lot bigger, and her ears pointer. Her leaf-like wings tucked themselves neatly on her back.- “Lady Ayesha Elmcup, welcome. The royal family is expecting you.”- “Can you call your queen? We don’t have much time.”- “Right away.”The elf queen soon came and the two conversed.- “Ayesha, if you are here, it means…”- “War is coming. He took them. Erased them from existence. The creatures are to
The cavern expanded like some natural ballroom. A tiny hole on the roof paved the way for white-gold rays to shine through. Blessed spirits did their nightly dance, channeling their essence into the magical staff ahead. This place would be a sanctuary in any storm. But, when unwelcomed visitors were to enter, the spirits would release an ear-splitting screech. Just as they did right now. Blood ran down their necks from their raptured eardrums as Aiko and Kana battled their way inside.Aiko had finally mastered her skills, supporting Kana with impenetrable shields and quick healing spells. No matter what the spirits would throw at the sorceress, she kept fighting back. Without Aiko’s endless rejuvenation, Kana wouldn’t be able to come this far. But, with Aiko by her side, she couldn’t care less about the injuries she suffered. Like those sharp stones that sliced her skin, tore apart her dress, and broke her bones. After all, everything would regenerate as soon as it got damaged. These
Barefoot, naked soles on grass… once that was a unique kind of bliss. It felt natural for the grassland to tickle her soles. But now, it was different. Every inch of her skin was covered in deep cuts and bruises. Even walking on the gentle grass felt like running over a billion shards of glass. Her stunning braids, adorned with the most beautiful flowers, came undone. Her short dress was all torn apart. Yet, that pain felt like a passing memory. There was something else that consumed her mind. This young child, a forest spirit, who was supposed to emit this bright and joyful energy, had succumbed to darkness. The kind of darkness that would render anyone insane. She looked at her hands. She looked at her chest. She looked at her own reflection in the pond.Blood. So much blood. The girl tried to wash it clean. Wipe it off. But, it didn’t work. Every time the water went over it, the blood would come back. As a reminder of what she did. She knew it didn’t come from her own wounds. She w
Once hollow, the shadows solidified into a person capable of outrunning even the tracker demons. From her fingertips, fog condensed into an apparition quite like the demons that roamed this place. Creating the perfect distraction for her to pass through. There was no joy in Nora’s eyes, nor a suggestion of a smile, just pure seriousness as she ran across the narrow corridors. If luck would have it, she would leave unscathed.Grey shadows formed into platforms which she used to climb to the top of the tower, and reach that single hole she opened when she infiltrated this place – her only exit strategy. The shadows were like patient clocks, waiting for her feet to land and then disappear. But, the further she ran, the more demons came out. Many emerged from the walls, trying to block her at every turn.Nora would let her eyes see how close they would get. And when they were at the right distance, the tip of her blade would exterminate them. Even the shadows that were steps for her to wa
Stars filled the sky, splitting over the black marble. In this vastness of eternal space, a couple of shadows blended into the dark as their flames died down. Frost grew over their limbs. Soon, ice crystals covered their entire bodies, allowing their brain to empty and become one with the flow. Karma felt the wind blow her hair over her eyes like a choreographed cyclone. In this place, days, seconds, months, and hours didn’t matter. Even the seasons moved like a fast clock, turning and changing in an infinite loop. Walking here rendered their souls to the greatest clarity. How the stars moved where he walked felt as though the galaxy could follow his shadow. Merge with his essence. This young man. He was somewhat too thin for his height. His body seemed malnourished. Stretched even. A very large wooden bead necklace hung on his skinny neck. His extremely pale skin peaked through his loosely fitted robe. His long blond hair was now a dusty grey. It changed with his sudden growth. As
The smell of smoke was one thing, the shaking another. But, it wasn’t the million primitive arthropods that left Yakeru panting, but, the thin air that was difficult to breathe. Ever since they set foot on this plane, getting a breath of fresh air felt like a lucid dream. As soon as the army of giant and heavily deformed metameric creatures fell, the adventurer focused his gaze onward, not letting a single moment pass him by.The gate though solid, it was slowly split open. Massive claws dug deep in the bricks, and on the other side, an ominous presence lingered. The stink. It was polluting his lungs. Like some kind of sewage that had filled with centuries and never got cleaned. A place where corpses would get dumped and stay there for all eternity. Stacked one on top of the other. When the gate swung open, demons and mutated insects swarmed by the dozens. As if they couldn’t wait to feed on this man’s essence.Fire came as a golden ball, igniting the
Merging with the shadows came naturally to Nora. Long time ago, she learned to live rootless, able to transform into the strangest of situations and still appear like everyone else. She has been in the game longer than she can remember, and the ties to her dark self only grew deeper. Her magic allowed her to take any shape she pleased. To command any voice, she deemed necessary. She would walk alone, then select a few others and walk by their side, as if she’d known them for ages. She pinned the tip of her blade in specific points, masking their magical essence with a shadowy cloak. These markings, they saw and heard everything about everyone, like a goldmine of information. The only difference was that her power would only register the voices, images, and thoughts of targets weaker than her. Not a single demon grew wary. But, the fact that most of them were a bunch of mindless brutes, thirsty for blood, made her work a little more taxing than she predicted. She need
