The waters of the frozen fjord shone like an unrefined pristine jewel as if the watery surface emerged from both above and below. Just when the eyes would get used to the calm and tranquil bliss of pure divine, the area changed into a bloody scenery.
A massive glacier broke through the ice and flew towards the woman’s unguarded cheeks. Though Nora dodged the onslaught with ease, a transient, yet overwhelmingly powerful wave came forth, pushing her back once more. Mesmerized by the speed and power of the watery gaze, the assassin felt tension building up inside.
And when the woman finally stood on solid ground to take a breath, mineral rocks lifted by the power of magical steam rose upward and flew towards her feet. The burning stones dug deep near the thousands of glaciers already covering the floor, quickly melting everything that stood nearby. If those rocks were to hit her, she would have immediately lost her ability to walk. The woman’s jaw clenched.
Crossing this perpetual cold would be a fatal endeavor. Even for someone as skilled as her. She needed something else. A different plan. Silence bathed the battlefield. The sorceress who stood on the other end of the fjord hovered on the protective waters that kept her swaddled in a magical embrace. Her sublime mana radiating an intense and unquenchable flame.
Then, Nora felt an odd unease. Her vision turned blurry. Her balance was wavering. Just when she thought she had dodged all those icicles and waves as hot as the boiling lava, Nora brushed her fingers against her nape. Blood lingered on the tip of the fingers.
- “No…”
Suddenly, a foreboding feeling came over her. Normally, she would hang on longer than this. But, facing the sorceress locked her into a hellish demise, sooner than she expected. That’s when her arms gave up on her. Moving in ways she would never want them to. The tip of Nora’s blade drew closer to her larynx. She felt it slicing her skin.
- “You are mine!” – Kana declared. “You know better than to leave your blood exposed to me.”
- “Stop!!!”
Aiko screamed. The girl rushed to Nora’s aid, only to find herself getting blown away by a powerful mist. She was now right back where she started, her face flat on the dirt floor.
- “Don’t.” – Kana ordered. Her eyes devoid of emotion.
- “Let her go!!! Listen to me!! Stop this! She can help. She can help us.”
- “Where is it?” – the sorceress immediately ignored her plea.
- “You… think I would be in this situation if I had it?!” – Nora gasped for air, desperately trying to push away her own hand.
- “I know, Kana! I know that Nora tried to kill us. But, please!! It is different now. Let me explain.”
- “Where is it?”
- “You know, it won’t hurt if you just tell her what she needs to know.” – Yakeru chuckled, without an actual intention to intervene.
- “Aiko…what are you trying to do?” – Ren was dumbfounded. “You know she is our enemy.”
- “No! It’s not like that. Just please stop. Don’t kill her!!!”
- “Kid, I know you lost it in there. But, I had no idea you were this far gone.” – the young man took a comfortable seat on the ground, enjoying the deadly scene. He loved watching Kana fight. She just never ceased to amaze.
The young girl brushed her nose. A single drop of blood stuck to her worn sleeve. All of a sudden, her eyes shone bright yellow, her pupils merging with that divine light. That’s when the tattoos deeply embedded in her skin caught on fire and her voice turned deep.
Although Aiko couldn’t push herself off the ground as quickly as she needed to, she sunk her teeth in the ground and light cracked open the soil. It was the only thing she could think of that would get to Nora on time. The power traveled from beneath like a hungry snake on a hunt; until it tore the fjord open. Hoping to put a stop to the fight, the girl let out her power the only way she knew how. Through anger and desperate need.
Kana was fully aware that the girl would make such a futile attempt. The sorceress simply used her icy aura to seal the cracks again. But, this opening was more than enough for Nora to send a powerful shadow to her aid.
At first, Kana heard a vibrant sound, like a cluster of instruments playing out of tune. Then, the music turned into obnoxious screeching, sending powerful vibrations to every fiber of her being. That’s when the sorceress realized what happened. Nora used her shadowy technique to inhibit Kana’s ability to hear, allowing her to let her guard down, just for a little bit.
A sickle and chain formed out of dark fragments. When they merged, the blade birth a sharp edge, capable of cutting even the densest surface. In an attempt to close the distance between them, Nora hurled the weapon. Not letting a single second pass her by.
In this cold wind, their souls met at a resounding collide. The sickle landed knee-deep, penetrating the outer layer of Kana’s soft skin. When the blade found its target, Nora immediately backed up to prepare herself for another attack. The cut was so deep, it would render any opponent immobile.
- “No!!!!” – Aiko yelled again. This time her throat ran dry.
The weapon, however, remained in the open wound less than a second, before a burst of steam sent it flying, missing Nora’s vulnerable shoulder by an inch. Even the blood that dripped on the floor, quickly found its way back into Kana’s body. Her knee was as good as new.
- “Oh, come on!” – Nora let out a grunt.
The assassin was fully aware of the adventurer's ability to self-heal. After all, she was one of them. But, their wounds would regenerate after they were out of harm's way, not in the heat of battle. Yet, Kana was different. Her magic gave her a massive advantage. Her Emerald rank made her even more terrifying. Nevertheless, these two had a way of triggering their most primitive parts to get the best of them. Stubborn and persistent, neither would let go. The only way to end it would be for one to cease to exist. At that moment, Aiko felt a force grabbing onto the back of her shirt, then she found herself flying right in the middle of the icy land. The woman tumbled to the ground before she finally regained her composure and stood tall. She turned to face Ren only to see his reassuring smile.
- “Thank you.”
She smiled back. Then stretched her hands wide, letting out light to form a barrier. The barrier expanded far, creating a thick line right between the two women.
- “Ugghh…” – Yakeru let out an annoyed grunt. “Want me to get rid of it?”
Kana didn’t say anything. She just slightly lifted her palm, her slender fingers moved like the wind, enough to give him some reassurance. The man just smiled and sat down again.
- “Don’t bother.” – Nora declared. “I told you. It is impossible to deal with them.”
- “Kana! You chose to protect me. Didn’t you? You said you will stay with me no matter what. Didn’t you?” – the girl stood there resolute. But, the sorceress was equally unwavering. “I know that I’m supposed to defeat all these chosen ones. These souls I have yet to meet. But, now I know a better path. I know what it is that I can offer!”
- “And, what’s that?” – the sorceress finally answered with a deep tone.
- “A completely different reality.”
- “You can’t do that.”
- “I can.”
- “How?”
- “Gaia’s guidance. She showed me. But to even be able to reach that step, we must let go of these grievances. We need each other. We need all the help we can get.”
- “Don’t tell me you believe this nonsense?” – Yakeru barged in.
- “Grievances? Nora has a formula that will destroy every adventurer on this planet. Including me. She made it. Even if she doesn’t have it, she can make it again. She must die. Now.”
- “I do! I believe her!” – Ren declared.
- “Well, yeah… Two stupid kids complement each other.”
- “You are the one who is stupid! Always trying to fight, kill. Why don’t you ever see the light? Why don’t you appreciate life?! All life is sacred. We can’t just go and kill every enemy we see! If Aiko has a way of changing that, we are better off without the unnecessary bloodshed.” - the pup argued.
- “Mercy will get you killed. This world is not as forgiving as you imagine it to be. But, given the fact that you’ve lived in a shack all this time, I guess everything is a new experience for you.” - Yakeru continued.
- “Aiko.” – Kana’s voice emerged from the fjord, her magical waves slowly sending her feet on solid ground. “You don’t understand the gravity of the situation. You are too young. That’s normal. But, this has been going on long before you were born. Eons before I got summoned here. The cycle of the chosen ones is here for a reason. If any of the others ascend, the world will be sent into disarray. I don’t know what nonsense she used to convince you to turn against me. But, I need you alive. I want you to live. So, you will stay that way.”
- “That’s not it!!! I’m not turning against you! I am here with you! You and Nora share the same ideas, but a different perspective. She too wants me to ascend. Please, you have to trust me.”
- “Why?” – the sorceress turned her gaze towards the exhausted assassin.
- “Well...I didn't always feel like that. But, the rest…they are not fit to rule the planet. Neither is she. Yet…she is my best bet.”
- “The formula. Why do you need it?”
From afar, the two stared at each other’s fore-boding eyes. Temporarily switching their emotions off. This was it. That opportunity Aiko was waiting for. So that both will have the chance to talk things through. The best shot at peace. If Nora says the right thing, they will be able to reach a compromise. Anything that would keep them from trying to slash each other’s throats.
- “To put down the likes of you.”
These cold and shallow words caught the young girl by surprise. Aiko immediately began to panic.
- “What are you saying? Whatever that is, you don’t need it! When we work…”
- “I see.” – Kana's eyes started taking in more mana.
- “No. Kana. Wait! I’m sure she didn’t mean it. Listen, we can work things out. It doesn’t have to come to this!”
Then, out of nowhere, Ren crouched down. He tilted his head, closed his eyes in the most instinctive gesture, and started sniffing. From the curl of his orange coat, it was obvious that he caught the scent of something. Something suspicious. Kana noticed the beast burying his head in the ground. His claws dragging across the dirt road.
- “What is it?”
- “Blood…” – Ren mumbled.
- “Whose?”
- “I…I’m not sure. But, it is far away. All I know is that someone is hurt. Very hurt. I smell something burning, even further. A village? Or a town maybe? Corpses. Lined. Death…so much death.”
- “What?! That gives us an even better reason to stop fighting. Please, Kana! Let’s focus on things that actually matter.” - Aiko continued.
- “Fine.”
All that powerful essence lingering from the sorceress’s body disappeared in thin air and the icy fjord with it. Aiko let out a sigh, before rushing to Nora’s aid. Luckily, the assassin wasn’t gravely injured. Just out of breath.
- “Thank you!” – Aiko smiled. “Don’t worry, Nora won’t do anything stupid.”
- “Don’t let this get to your head, kid.” – Yakeru stood up and started walking up south, exactly where the scent came from. He just smiled and kept moving. “She makes one wrong move and is as good as dead. Simple and effective.”
Not long after, Ren followed the scent until he finally reached the ruins. There was nothing left, except for the smell of death. Then, his breathing quickened, someone bleeding was right nearby. Everywhere it walked, it left a blood trail behind, accompanied by a couple of fallen black feathers. Obviously plucked out of massive, lustrous wings. Kana quickened her pace.
There it was, a wounded harpy. Barely alive and lounging on a nearby pillar. Aiko immediately ran towards him. The only thing she could think of was to use her power to heal. The moment she touched his rough human-like skin, an odd bright light appeared. The harpy was mortified.
- “A chosen one?! What are you doing?”
The girl looked into his eyes. That light. It made her feel warm inside.
- “You are like me?”
- “Get away from me!!!!”
In an attempt to free himself from her grasp, the harpy pushed Aiko’s hand away, forcing the light to dim. But, the girl didn’t budge. She touched his skin once more and the light continued to shine brighter. This time patching his wounds up.
- “Why are you helping me?! What do you want from me?!
- “Nothing.”
- “What is your problem? You are not supposed to help me! You know what I am. You are supposed to kill me. One must fulfill the prophecy. One must ascend the throne!”
- “I don’t care about the stupid prophecy! I don’t want to hurt you!”
The harpy stared in disbelief. He never expected to hear such honest words from a mere human. It somehow made him feel at peace.
- “Then, which one are you?”
- “I’m Aiko. Gaia’s chosen one. Tell me, why do you want it? Why do you need the throne?”
- “To protect my kin, of course. That’s all I ever wanted!”
- “Then, let me help you! Let me save them!”
- “No!!! Outsider! Stay away!!!”
The harpy finally got back his senses and pushed the girl away. This time, her healing light completely evaporated, leaving plenty of his open wounds ripe for infection. In a fit of panic, the creature tried to lift himself off the floor, but his damaged wings couldn’t handle the weight. Instead, he crashed down once more. The impact knocked an earring from his claws. The crooked single piece of jewelry toppled on the ground. Aiko took a good look at it. From the vivid colors and bright red embroidery, it obviously belonged to a female. The desperation in his face only served as a solid proof.
- “What’s your name?” – Aiko continued.
- “Zephyrus” – the harpy sighed.
- “Tell me, Zephyrus. How can I gain your trust? How can I show you that I really just want to help?”
After a moment of silence, he finally answered.
- “Save her. Save Podarge. They took her. They took my love. If only I didn’t go to that trial, they would all be safe. But, I went there to train for better powers. I left it after sensing her cries. It almost killed me because I didn’t go through with it. But, it was all for nothing! When I got here, it was already too late. Please! Return her to me. I can’t do it alone!”
Aiko turned to face Kana, Yakeru, Ren, and Nora. After a reassuring nod from all of them, she uttered a quick answer.
- “You have my word, Zephyrus. We will help you.”
[ Volume 1 - End ]
The dark woods were wrapped with the voices from beyond. The countless nocturnal entities moved swiftly with the wind, merging with the hug of grey. The light of the shining moon grew dimmer. The obnoxiously tall trees and thick mist wouldn’t let a single ray of light reach these places. As if the area was completely secluded from the outside world. A young girl reached for the entities that moved about. Their velvet bodies brushed against her skin as they passed. Their forgotten voices soothed her soul. She felt their cries, worries, and anger. Some longed to meet their loved ones. Others wished for a second chance. While the rest cried for revenge. There was a gentle brilliance in the way her hands moved, a stunning confidence. The girl felt comfortable around spirits as if this was her second nature. -“Paige! What are you doing? Move! We are running out of time!!!” A man’s voice pierced the echoes of the dead
Each city across Elidy had its own heartbeat, a unique essence that separated it from the rest of places. But, this city was a different kind of gem, an art in every sense. For the sights reinvented the thoughts of a normal community, forming both small and big cityscapes that somehow merged well. On the right, the area was covered with massive sky towers. With sizable parks, great open spaces, and greenery in even the tiniest of spaces. Constructed with the similar pure white stone used in Azidora, these towers were a marvel to behold. Tall, pointy, with not so spacious rooms, yet plenty of living space. Compared to the elven capital, these buildings relied on huge glass windows to brighten up the homes. The vibrant glass paint as gorgeous as ever, giving each structure a unique, avant-garde vibe. This part of the city was kept by ball-like machines fueled by magic. These tools were responsible for cleaning, organizing, and taking care of the place. As if they knew
The towering walls collapsed. Their voices trailed softly as a massive winged creature with a lion’s body and a head of an eagle swooped in. That exhilarating plunge took down the narrow halls, creating a wide-open battlefield. If it weren’t for Kana’s watery embrace and Yakeru’s overbearing scythe, everyone would lay flat on the ground, either suffocated by dirt or buried under the rubble. When the dust settled, a tall elf approached. With each stride, her thoughts became more resolute, as if the shrinking distance between them finally made her feel complete. As the light caressed her light grey skin, with a hint of purple and green hue, she entombed her memories of Kana and her into a thick wall of ice. -“Lara.” – the sorceress mumbled. Although she wore sturdy grey armor, the skin between both her chests was left revealed, showing just how much confidence she had in her skills to keep her heart out of harm’s
The fury in her eyes showed the scared child within. The girl who was taught to help those in need was now starved of the little hope she had left. Ren could see the agony beneath those tears as if her entire soul was drowning in a pit of despair. Aiko couldn’t fight it. It was just too painful for her to do so. The best thing for her was to offer herself to the void. A self-designed shadow box that craved even a tiny speck of light. -“Yakeru…Yakeru…” That moment his hand tore Podarge’s heart, it flooded her mind. It consumed her thoughts. The way the blood dripped. The sound of her last breath as her soul left her body. It was all in there, playing on a loop. That anger and pain, it burned her on the way out, like steam waiting to explode. -“I told you. Didn’t I?” Then, the world around her changed. All those elements that made the place feel whole somehow
An explosion of holy light shook the foundation. With every ripple, the ground became hotter, until it was impossible to walk on. A massive circle adorned with ancient elven runes enveloped Dakath’s back, sending forth an even denser heatwave.Ren had already closed his eyes waiting for it to boil him alive. After all, he couldn’t move with the dead harpy laying on his back. But, the pain never came. Instead, a soothing texture had wrapped around his body as well as for those around him. Kana’s watery embrace had lifted everyone off the floor, high enough to dodge the attack. Then, another wave came forth. Although it didn’t ignite the area, it forced Kana’s brow to twitch a little. She expected the elf to cast that spell. But, not now. It was too soon.Just when Yakeru tightened his grip around the scythe to jump into battle, screams came from the harpies behind. Most crouched in agony. That pain could also be seen in Kana’s eyes. I
In the dim light that flows through the cracks in the walls, a shadow came crashing down. Kana fell, blood oozing from every section of her body. On each arm, there were massive purple welts that would only worsen with time. She looked so beaten up as if she was fighting a monster twice her size. All those wounds forced the adventurer out of her magical watery form. The sorceress sucked in a deep breath. She sighed and pushed herself off the ground. Lara just stood there, patiently watching her struggle. A creepy smile stretching across her face. Despite the few broken ribs, Kana managed to stand up again.-“Why did you make me wait for so long? We could have ended things back then, remember? But, no… You decided to run away like the coward you are. I thought I made you better than this.”-“I did…what I thought was…right.”
To everyone, the world looked like never-ending brightness. If they were to close their eyes and focus on the silence, they would be forgiven for everything they’ve done in one lifetime. It was that sense of serenity that made this place feel confusing. For when they looked into the eyes of the figure that controlled Aiko’s body, one could only see a thirst to kill. It was her own twin, yet the two looked nothing alike. Their auras radiated a different glow. From Aiko, it felt like spring, bustling with natural and beautiful energy. The figure, on the other hand, was depraved. Facing her, felt like battling a foe they couldn’t beat. After all, they had lost their bodies and turned to spheres made of light. Both enemies and allies alike. Only their consciousness lingered. No matter how much power they yielded, with the material world gone, their potential went down with it. They looked like newborns, seeing everything with brand new eyes. One of the spheres near Ren s
The coastline was rugged with the kiss of the ocean blue. It welcomed the rays of the sun and summer breeze, forming a covenant of stunning beauty. Today, there wasn’t even a single cloud in sight, casting the seagulls into dark shadows against the sky of blue. Above, floating rocks tipped the ocean, creating a pathway for the numerous waterfalls to pass through. Over a dozen magical beasts complemented the place, providing the area with a unique vibe. This secluded island felt like paradise. Nestled at the center of the island, lavish, yet petite, was a mansion made of the purest white stones. Quite normal materials used for someone of elven descent. But, compared to the other estates across the kingdom, this one was left unguarded. As if such actions would be a waste of time and effort. Not far from the estate came a song, a green lullaby that softened the hues of the beach. A short lady held her shoes in her arms while walking barefoot on the white sand. Her eyes
The rain came with a confident wind, rousing the trees and fires into a vortex. Each raindrop – a kaleidoscope, covering the library in a comforting blanket. The phoenix couldn’t help but wonder, as it was lying on the floor exhausted, what it would feel like if it could stop time and just look at it. Observe each watery bubble before it touched the ground. The fires on its wings dimmed, and the phoenix morphed into a small human. Welcoming every drop with his outstretched fingers. Like he always wanted to. Soon, the rain formed puddles, followed by a cool freshness in the breeze. Most of the Library of Pergamon was in ruins. Thankfully, the rain came when it did, or the rest of this grand building would have succumbed to the flames.Paige woke up suddenly, not because her clothes were soaked, but because she remembered what she was up against. An entire demon army. Her eyes tried to adapt to the light and rain. She had no idea how long she slept. The only thing that sent her on edge
With a crack as loud as thunder, the third statue split from its pedestal. The entire thing accelerated down and crushed into this unfamiliar woman. Amplified by the figure’s powerful magics, this statue sent forth an immense shockwave, toppling the walls and limiting their visibility. The woman coughed.- “Really?”- “It was worth a try.” – the figure shrugged.- “There…is…no need to fight.”Aiko retaliated as she tried to release her neck from the woman’s suffocating magic. But, as soon as she said that, the mysterious woman waved a hand, and Aiko found herself glued to the wall and with a fractured skull. Although Aiko was out cold, her godlike powers focused on stopping the bleeding and getting her body back in shape.- “You know you can’t kill us, right?” – the figure added.- “Who said I want to kill you?”- “You are damn sure acting like it.”- “I just want you to know your place. That’s it.”- “I can relate to that.” – the figure chuckled. “Actually, I’ve been meaning to ask.”
[ During the rule of the God of Time - 5,000 BE* ]*BE – Before Elidy*AE – After ElidyA woman strode forward. Her long legs and slender arms exposed beneath her silky, almost transparent dress. Her massive wings carried her across the sky, leaving behind a powerful gust of wind. Her green, transparent hair, decorated with a dozen golden accessories danced with the breeze. When she landed, the elf guards greeted her with respect. This woman was a stunning beauty, with a slim face, full lips, and a distinctive jawline. She resembled an elf, as she was almost as tall as them. But, her eyes were a lot bigger, and her ears pointer. Her leaf-like wings tucked themselves neatly on her back.- “Lady Ayesha Elmcup, welcome. The royal family is expecting you.”- “Can you call your queen? We don’t have much time.”- “Right away.”The elf queen soon came and the two conversed.- “Ayesha, if you are here, it means…”- “War is coming. He took them. Erased them from existence. The creatures are to
The cavern expanded like some natural ballroom. A tiny hole on the roof paved the way for white-gold rays to shine through. Blessed spirits did their nightly dance, channeling their essence into the magical staff ahead. This place would be a sanctuary in any storm. But, when unwelcomed visitors were to enter, the spirits would release an ear-splitting screech. Just as they did right now. Blood ran down their necks from their raptured eardrums as Aiko and Kana battled their way inside.Aiko had finally mastered her skills, supporting Kana with impenetrable shields and quick healing spells. No matter what the spirits would throw at the sorceress, she kept fighting back. Without Aiko’s endless rejuvenation, Kana wouldn’t be able to come this far. But, with Aiko by her side, she couldn’t care less about the injuries she suffered. Like those sharp stones that sliced her skin, tore apart her dress, and broke her bones. After all, everything would regenerate as soon as it got damaged. These
Barefoot, naked soles on grass… once that was a unique kind of bliss. It felt natural for the grassland to tickle her soles. But now, it was different. Every inch of her skin was covered in deep cuts and bruises. Even walking on the gentle grass felt like running over a billion shards of glass. Her stunning braids, adorned with the most beautiful flowers, came undone. Her short dress was all torn apart. Yet, that pain felt like a passing memory. There was something else that consumed her mind. This young child, a forest spirit, who was supposed to emit this bright and joyful energy, had succumbed to darkness. The kind of darkness that would render anyone insane. She looked at her hands. She looked at her chest. She looked at her own reflection in the pond.Blood. So much blood. The girl tried to wash it clean. Wipe it off. But, it didn’t work. Every time the water went over it, the blood would come back. As a reminder of what she did. She knew it didn’t come from her own wounds. She w
Once hollow, the shadows solidified into a person capable of outrunning even the tracker demons. From her fingertips, fog condensed into an apparition quite like the demons that roamed this place. Creating the perfect distraction for her to pass through. There was no joy in Nora’s eyes, nor a suggestion of a smile, just pure seriousness as she ran across the narrow corridors. If luck would have it, she would leave unscathed.Grey shadows formed into platforms which she used to climb to the top of the tower, and reach that single hole she opened when she infiltrated this place – her only exit strategy. The shadows were like patient clocks, waiting for her feet to land and then disappear. But, the further she ran, the more demons came out. Many emerged from the walls, trying to block her at every turn.Nora would let her eyes see how close they would get. And when they were at the right distance, the tip of her blade would exterminate them. Even the shadows that were steps for her to wa
Stars filled the sky, splitting over the black marble. In this vastness of eternal space, a couple of shadows blended into the dark as their flames died down. Frost grew over their limbs. Soon, ice crystals covered their entire bodies, allowing their brain to empty and become one with the flow. Karma felt the wind blow her hair over her eyes like a choreographed cyclone. In this place, days, seconds, months, and hours didn’t matter. Even the seasons moved like a fast clock, turning and changing in an infinite loop. Walking here rendered their souls to the greatest clarity. How the stars moved where he walked felt as though the galaxy could follow his shadow. Merge with his essence. This young man. He was somewhat too thin for his height. His body seemed malnourished. Stretched even. A very large wooden bead necklace hung on his skinny neck. His extremely pale skin peaked through his loosely fitted robe. His long blond hair was now a dusty grey. It changed with his sudden growth. As
The smell of smoke was one thing, the shaking another. But, it wasn’t the million primitive arthropods that left Yakeru panting, but, the thin air that was difficult to breathe. Ever since they set foot on this plane, getting a breath of fresh air felt like a lucid dream. As soon as the army of giant and heavily deformed metameric creatures fell, the adventurer focused his gaze onward, not letting a single moment pass him by.The gate though solid, it was slowly split open. Massive claws dug deep in the bricks, and on the other side, an ominous presence lingered. The stink. It was polluting his lungs. Like some kind of sewage that had filled with centuries and never got cleaned. A place where corpses would get dumped and stay there for all eternity. Stacked one on top of the other. When the gate swung open, demons and mutated insects swarmed by the dozens. As if they couldn’t wait to feed on this man’s essence.Fire came as a golden ball, igniting the
Merging with the shadows came naturally to Nora. Long time ago, she learned to live rootless, able to transform into the strangest of situations and still appear like everyone else. She has been in the game longer than she can remember, and the ties to her dark self only grew deeper. Her magic allowed her to take any shape she pleased. To command any voice, she deemed necessary. She would walk alone, then select a few others and walk by their side, as if she’d known them for ages. She pinned the tip of her blade in specific points, masking their magical essence with a shadowy cloak. These markings, they saw and heard everything about everyone, like a goldmine of information. The only difference was that her power would only register the voices, images, and thoughts of targets weaker than her. Not a single demon grew wary. But, the fact that most of them were a bunch of mindless brutes, thirsty for blood, made her work a little more taxing than she predicted. She need
