'Crap', Earl thought to himself as he heard the door hinges squeak, everything seemed to be moving slower in his eyes, it was obvious that his grandpa was the one who was at his door, who else could it be?, but after what had just happened, whatever kind of crazy contract that had happened, it left his room and body a complete mess, he couldn't let his grandpa see his room right now, his books were all over the table, his shirt was ripped, and the giant alchemy circle was still clearly visible on his chest to anyone who came in, not to mention that he still had a massive headache as his head was suddenly flooded with so many messages that he frankly knew nothing about, "Earl, are you okay in there, I've been calling you for a while now, but you didn't answer, so I came to check up on you", grandpa Ollie said from the other side of the door, "Stop!!!" Earl shouted from the inside of his room, he then proceeded to silently approach the door, being extra careful as to not make any noise, grandpa Ollie, who was still on the opposite end of the door, paused for a moment as was frankly surprised at the sudden scream, "what's wrong Earl?", grandpa Ollie asked once more, he waited silently, but after 10 seconds there was no response, "I'm coming in" grandpa Ollie said, he then proceeded to open the door, Earl, seeing as the door was now half open, suddenly rushed towards the door, slammed it shut, and locked it.
"I'm okay grandpa, you don't have to come inside, I was just pretty busy", said Earl, 'that was close', he thought to himself, if he had been even a second late, there would've been a serious problem, grandpa Ollie, seeing his grandson's reaction and reply, smiled as he spoke from the other side of the door, "I know your at that age, but you should finish your work for the day before anything else okay?", "No grandpa I wasn't...", Earl tried to explain, but his grandfather quickly cut in, "don't worry, I remember my first time" grandpa Ollie said, "It was a bright afternoon-", "Okay grandpa I get it, you can go now!!!" Earl shouted as he didn't want to hear whatever story his grandfather was about to scar him with, "Suit yourself then" his grandpa said as headed down stairs to the shop, "Well at least he's gone for now" Earl said with a sigh of relief, he looked around his room and noticed the huge mess that whole ordeal had caused, he once again looked down at his chest and could still clearly see the alchemy circle inscribed on him, it looked like someone had dipped a rod in hot fire and drawn it across his chest, yet for some reason, when he touched it, it didn't hurt, he was amazed by the fact that he felt no pain, he quickly turned around and picked up the mirror, as he previously dropped it after hearing his grandpa, he wanted to examine the circle more, but upon close inspection, he noticed that the lines of the alchemy circle, the symbols, the whole alchemy circle itself started fading, "What?" he asked out loud out if confusion, all he could do was watch confused as the circle became less and less opaque, and eventually, it was gone, suddenly there was a loud thud, startled by the sudden noise Earl jumped back as he searched for the source of such noise, "Oh, it's just a book", he said as he spotted the old tattered book, he walked over to where it laid on the floor and picked it up, "something tells me that I shouldn't open you up" Earl said, but he was still adamant on curing his curiousity, he began investigating the book once more, it seemed like a regular old tattered book, with nothing really special about it, no inscriptions, symbols, markings, or writing on the front, side or back, however, if he wanted to serve his curiousity, he would have to open up the book, and that's exactly what he did, although this time, he did it slowly and with the utmost caution, as he didn't want whatever that had happened before to happen again, as he opened the book up he noticed something had changed, on the first page was the alchemy circle that was inscribed onto his chest, and underneath it were symbols which translated to the word grimoire. According to the history books, early alchemists were supposedly taught the art of alchemy by the gods, this same gods taught them many things, including an ancient language which was used in drawing high amounts of mana for specific purposes, some thought that the mana came from the gods themselves while others thought it came from a mana well deep within the body, but nonetheless, the mana that was drawn when using such symbols were insane amounts, and let the humans evolve and grow twice the rate they would've, hence the reason why alchemy circles where needed for most big actions, while a smaller tasks could be done without it. A grimoire however is a special book created with mana, it is normally used as more of a journal, in it contains spells the user has learnt, and also instructions on how to do such spells, draw specific alchemy circles, or perform certain rituals, in fact the book Earl used in getting the mysterious book open was his grandmother's grimoire, grimoires can be stolen and used by others, hence things like the instructions Earl followed were things anyone could learn, or more accurately, perform, however one could only use spells from another grimoire only if that person has both the same affinity, (the same mana network) as the person they stole it from, and skill to do so, but not everyone was given a grimoire, though it was common for alchemists to have them, they were a huge percentage of alchemists that didn't have grimoires, there was never a specific reason as to why, it was just how it was in their world, after all both of Earl's parents didn't have grimoires, but they were still one of the greatest Alchemists alive, yet here he was sat down holding what seemed to be a grimoire, and what's more, his name was written right below the symbols, "does this mean I have a grimoire now?" he asked himself, it would seem weird that despite both his parents lack in having one he would get one, but they could also perform Alchemy at very early ages, meanwhile he could not despite his age, as he was thinking though, he noticed that the book was vanishing the same way the circle on his chest was, only this time the book was getting covered in a white cloudy substance, the same one that covered it before, and eventually it disappeared, he was dumbfounded and completely confused, he couldn't understand what was going on anymore, his brain was overheating and he frankly didn't know what to make of his situation, so he just decided to clean the place up, he started by picking up his books that were scattered all over his desk, he was in the middle of arranging them when he realised something, he could see a small icon appear at the bottom right of his vision, it resembled the book that had just vanished in front of his eyes, he quickly placed the books in order, picked up his broken chair and sat down at his desk, he began concentrating on the icon while reaching out his hands, trying to physically grab it, "what the heck, what am I supposed to do?", immediately after asking that question, he suddenly saw those messages appear once again[Bonding successful, You are now the new master of the Grimoire]'Grimoire?', He thought to himself, "So I was right huh?", he said as he pondered on the subject of that book being a Grimoire, he thought for a moment, but quickly found it unlikely, this was because most Grimoires had an alchemy circle inscribed on the front of them, but that book was completely plain, ' But if it was one, then that would mean, I might be able to perform alchemy', he thought. Grimoires were books that had detailed guides to performing spells (as mentioned earlier), summoning creatures, and enhancing mana generation, most families of high political standings had powerful Grimoires, and although they were expensive, due to their previous owners being high ranking alchemists, they were not too hard to come by, if that book was really a Grimoire, it could help him start his journey of alchemy. Though not all Alchemist had Grimoires, and most didn't need one, due to fact that either their families secret alchemy was not to be documented in a Grimoire, or they had already mastered their field of alchemy, there was still the possibility of making one's own new alchemy, although it took some time and was relatively hard to do, the possibility still existed, especially since his was empty, except for the front page that is, but nonetheless, if Earl had a Grimoire it would give him new found hope, although his grandfather was going by well, a Grimoire was far beyond what they could afford, hence it would be great to have gotten one for free. But there was one problem, "I don't still know how to.... make it reappear", regardless of if it was one, it would be useless if he couldn't manifest it, "maybe I'm missing something here", he thought as he tried remembering what the book visually looked like, as he pictured the book in his head, a word suddenly popped up in his head, he immediately said it instinctively, "Boki!!!" suddenly white particles started forming in front of his eyes, they started forming something, and soon the white particles disappeared into thin air, and in their place, was the book, only it looked a lot newer, and now had an alchemy sign on the cover of it, Earl was dumbfounded at what he just saw, not only by its sudden appearance, but the overall change in how it looked, he quickly grabbed the book in front of him, he now had hope that maybe with its new looks, it now had a few spells or instructions, maybe the contents were locked or sealed by its previous owner, and if it was, he would want to open it and read it as soon as possible, but when opening it, as expected, it was blank, just like it was before, he opened page after page, after page, after page, but found nothing, "Am I missing something here?" he thought to himself as he began turning the book upside down, while he slouched in his chair, he kept on turning the book in all sorts of directions, but nothing changed, he then remembered one thing, The system. Each time he thought about the system or events that lead to it, it seemed to pop up, so he gave it one more try and a screen appeared Infront of him,[HP: 100/100][Race: Human][Affinity: None][Affinity: None][You currently have no affinity for alchemy] He noticed that he not only had no mana, but no Affinity for any form of alchemy, the system also gave him short detailed stats about himself, which just made him wonder, just what was this system?, and why he got it after trying to open the book. While looking at his stats, his decided to look more into the Affinity tab, maybe there were instructions on how to get one, as he concentrated on it, more information began to appear, Just then a message popped up[Quest: bring an item containing magical energy to gain it's attribute/affinity][Reward: Alchemist Affinity, Random skill unlock] A smile appeared on his face as he read the message, "this is great, my grandpa store is filled with all kinds of magical items", he said to himself, he was excited and was about to run downstairs when he stopped, his grandpa's items were probably sealed or contracted, and asking his grandpa for a random magical item worth money wasn't even an option, plus he needed to think carefully about what type of alchemy he wanted, most people didn't get a choice, but if he was given one, then he had to be wise in the choice he was going to make, but one thing was for sure, if this system thing was going to enable him to perform alchemy, then he would do whatever it took, the problem was finding a magical item. Magical items are items which contain magical energy, this means that they contain natural magical essence and aid in performing alchemy, in more advanced forms, magical items could perform specific magical attacks like making an ice wall, or creating a smoke screen, they were created using beast crystals, which are extracted from the body of dead beasts, adventurers are mostly tasked with obtaining beast crystals for this purpose, but they can also be used in creating beast armor, weapons and gear, but the power of a magical item depended on the beast crystal that was used in making it, which is why it was a problem finding one he would be satisfied with, although his grandpa's shop had a few, they were all created with a lower grade tiered beast crystal, and if the strength of his alchemy would be based on the beast crystal, or strength of the magical item, then he would need to find a powerful one. He spent the rest of the night going over each stat that his system displayed and tried to understand most of them, he understood the basic ones like Race, Affinity, HP, Skills, but got more interested in the more complicated options such as spiritual energy, he tried reading more on it, but each time it would give him an error message, and he eventually gave up on it, he then kept going down all his stats till he reached a section that was grayed out entirely, this made him wonder even more "is this because I'm currently a Level 1?", while reading the tab under the Level stat, it said that the higher his level the more skills he would be able to use, and the more options he would be able to access, for example when looking at the Shop stat, it stated he had to be Level 15 to access it, and he was currently level 1, but he could rank up once his Experience points or Exp for short, were enough, he could get Exp by completing quests, but the system said nothing more than that, he would just have to find a way to get Exp, but with that he was exhausted and needed some sleep, "Tomorrow I'm gonna get a magical item no matter what" He said as he drifted of to sleep on his desk. It was the next day, and Earl woke up really late due to all the exhausting events that occurred yesterday, he quickly got ready and wore his school uniform, he then ran down stairs without even eating breakfast, and ran past his grandpa who was wearing a robe, he was currently opening the shop up, "Good morning grandpa, I'm sorry but I gotta go", He managed to say as he ran past him, "Wait Earl, I've got something for you-"His grandfather said but was quickly shut off "I'm sorry grandpa Ollie, tell me whatever it is you wanna say when I get back", with that Earl hopped on his bike and rode to school as quickly as possible, grandpa Ollie then sighed as he grabbed his clay pipe and inhaled some of the smoke and puffed it out, he then pulled out a pendant from his front pocket "What's his problem?, I just wanted to give him this pendant his parents left", he said as he put it back into his front pocket.Earl quickly got off his bike as he parked it outside the school, he ran up the steps and ran towards his classroom bursting through the doors panting, " I'm....*pant*.....here", Earl said with sweat running down his face, everyone in the class ignored his existence, and pretended like no-one had walked in, however his teacher, Mr Adam closed the textbook he was reading and looked over at Earl, "It's nice for you to finally join us Earl, when my class is already over" he said while giving Earl a death glare, Earl seeing his upset teacher quickly bowed his head remorsefully, along with the top half of his body down "I'm sorry sir I just overslept", Earl said in an apologetic voice, Just then a female student suddenly spoke up, "It's not his fault Mr Adam, I heard that people who have zero mana have a brain defect, so they need more sleep or else their brains wouldn't function properly", laughter filled the classroom as she finished her sentence, and Earl couldn't do anything other than
Suddenly the whole atmosphere turned into a serious one, Mr Adam repeated himself once more, "You have to take the final exams right here, right now Earl", Earl was now confused, why was he suddenly told to take the final exam right now?, he had till Friday to do so, he wasn't pre-informed nor properly ready, plus he wasn't even in his normal school uniform, which was designed to aid alchemy, all he had on was a plain white shirt, and some shorts. "But sir, I still have to Friday, so why am I-", Earl tried to reason, but was suddenly cut off by Mr Adam "I've been instructed by the AAO to conclude all final exams today, as they have decided to not make the highschool submission date next month, but by Monday", Earl was in shock, not only had the AAO suddenly changed the final exam date, but they had also changed the Highschool submission date. The AAO, or All Alchemy Organisation had existed for about 400 years now, and they oversaw all new Alchemy practices since then, they m
"Earl... Earl.... Earl!!!... Earl wake up!!!", Earl could hear a familiar voice calling out to him, it was grandpa Ollie. After finding Earl passed out right outside the shops door, he quickly took him inside and laid him on the shop floor, he took a towel and some water and placed it on his forehead, but still after 3 hours he still hadn't regained consciousness, grandpa Ollie didn't have any medicinal herbs with him, nor could he perform any form of Alchemy, this was the best solution he had at the time. "grandpa Ollie?", Earl had finally regained consciousness, though his vision was still a little blurry, he slowly sat up straight, as he was lying down on the shop's floor, "what happened to you?", grandpa Ollie asked with a worried look on his face, Earl held his head trying to remember what had happened, he remembered everything from the early morning visits, down to the details of what Mr Adams had said, his face suddenly went white when he saw a message appear[Vlad Talisman de
Earl was running through the forest as he was rushing home, he left Nora's dead body in hopes that some beasts would eat it, even if they were weak beasts, it didn't mean they didn't eat flesh, plus there was a good chance they would, as they would not only be attracted due to the smell of her blood, but also because of the dead beasts carcass, after about 10 minutes of running, he finally made it out of the forest and his house was in view, *Pant**Pant*Earl was panting heavily as he had been running for quite a while, he was drenched from head to toe, but at least now he had an idea of what Spiritual Energy was. It was the natural energy his body had, each time he got injured, his body would heal itself using spiritual energy, this was probably also the energy that was used by Alchemist in summoning creatures, activating special beast gear, and performing special skills, this explanation also fit in with the idea of why he had to consume life energy, as advanced Alchemy made use of
Miss Edna and Mr Adam, along with Jake were all running towards the forest, after hearing what Jake had said, Miss Edna wasted no time in rushing over towards the forest, the forest, though it had beasts, was often a place where people strolled through, also due to the fact that the most dangerous beasts one could find there was intermediate, students would train there, it wasn't anything any decent student couldn't handle, but based off what she had heard from Jake, only one thought came to mind, 'Could the ORA be making their move already?', if they were, and attacked a student in the forest, then that meant she would most likely have to prepare for immediate battle. After a couple minutes of running, they made it to the entrance to the forest, "Which way did u hear the scream?" Miss Edna asked, "That way" Jake said while pointing in particular direction, "Thank you" Miss Edna said before running into the forest in the direction Jake had pointed, seeing her move, Mr Adam followed su
"Oh and don't forget to pack up, cuz you might be gone by Monday'', those words had been in Earl's head all weekend, he started packing up his bags by the time he heard her say that, but he was still speculative on whether he would get accepted or not, though all the anxiety from the Nora incident had died down, his new found anxiety of being rejected or accepted had resurfaced. It was Monday morning, and as Early as 4am, Earl was sitting outside the shop with all his bags packed outside, he was wearing a white shirt, and brown shorts, along with some sandals, he tried his best to comb his messy hair, but it was no use, and ended up being a waste of time, he packed everything he thought he would need, from clothes and books, to hairs and baby teeth, he was so anxious and nervous he was killing himself over it, 'Are they late?, Am I early?, Am I late?', he kept questioning himself, just then his grandfather then walked outside stretching out his arms, "Don't you think your a little too
Earl was sitting there inside the room in between two girls and two boys, the boy who had spoken when he entered the room was Henry, while the girl he had argued with was Ruby, they well still currently arguing, or at least the boy was still talking why Ruby didn't say much, just an insult here and there, the other two people were also quiet, so Earl decided to speak to them instead, he turned over to the girl beside him and put out his hand, "Hi, I'm Earl, what's your name?", the girl seeing this put out her hand and shook his, she had red hair that's was wavy and long, she wore a black top, and a black cargo pants, she also had a necklace on, and wore the traditional Japanese sandals, "Hi I'm Annie, nice to meet you", Earl then proceeded to shake her hand, but then one thought came to his mind as he did, ' Soft ' , her hand was soft, he was afraid that if he shook any harder her hand would get squished, now that he gave it some thought, the girl he had just met was beautiful, she ha
After making their plan, the man who escorted Earl there came in once again, but this time escorted the entire team to the last floor where a huge platform, with hundreds of people already on it, they were each in groups of five, and just as Ruby had said, it seemed like it would be a battle Royale, more teams were being brought to the ring, so most of the team's already there had decided to go over they're plans again, but most of Earl's team had decided to just look around and try evaluating the other teams, but almost immediately Earl recognised someone in the crowd of people, "Jake??!!", of all the people to run into, it had to be Jake, he had always hated Jake so much, and he just had to meet him at the entrance exam, Jake always bullied him due to his weakness, although he hates it and fought back most of the time, the end result would always be the same, but even if now he felt a little stronger, and although he had no idea how to fight properly, he would at least help his team
With the pact made amongst one another, talks about the ORA continued, and eventually everyone started sharing their experiences specifically with them.One-way or the other, it eventually divulged into a topic of backstorues, making all the students share details of their transformations during the search for Sidney and Earl. They all were glad to hear that Williams lost his stutter. Hearing his back story and what happened to him only lit a fire in their hearts concerning the ORA.They'd hated them deeply already, but to think they'd take advantage of abandoned children like that... It reminded them that there was nothing the ORA weren't willing to do for their goal.Giving them all the more reason to train and become strong enough to fight them and take them down.Henry revealed the promise he made with his village elder, and everyone showed their support, especially Crystal and Ruby.Earl, Sidney, Annie, and Ruby never knew anything about this, and how could they? Henry was always
Jake laid down on his back, completely shocked silent. He watched Earl distinguished the attack he would've hit Jake with, before smiling and saying the words, "I win."It took a moment for Jake to realise it, but he'd lost the match. The final match in the mini tournament that they were holding, he'd lost that match. He'd lost to Earl.He was completely shocked by the whole thing. The moment he and Earl's fists collided, he felt the brunt of Earl's attack send him flying backwards, and he saw Earl fly off too.But it seemed Earl either recovered insanely quickly, or Jake was thrown a lot harder by Earl's attack than he would've liked to think he did. Before he knew it, Earl was standing over him with an attack ready to be launched straight at him.For some reason his mind went back to when they were kids, back when he'd bully Earl, call him names, and always boss his around because he was stronger than he was.He then remembered the fight that happened back in the entrance exams, the
"Flaming lotus!" Said Earl. "Vortex!" Said Jake. "Whoa!" Said Sidney, "what the hell are those moves?" He asked. "I don't know... But this is getting fun," said Crystal. Both Crystal and Sidney knew that Earl was going to lose the contest no matter what. It didn't really matter what happened when it came to him, he'd already lost two matches, nothing could make up for that now. However the situation for Jake was different. If he won, he would 'officially' be the strongest soon to be second year student in the entire school.Earl wasn't fighting to win, or at least not to win the current mini tournament they were all having. He was fighting for his pride, he was fighting to win and prove himself.Jake was fighting for the same reason. For the longest time he'd been on top of Earl when it came to power and fighting prowess. Ever since Earl got his alchemy, he'd been growing extremely fast, but he still hadn't been able to beat Jake once. This fight wasn't just for the title of strongest
As the smoke cleared from the battle fought, on the floor was Jake and Sidney, both with satisfied looks on their faces.Earl and Crystal had their mouths held open in complete shock. They had a feeling the match would end quickly, but not in one attack. Both of them had their mouths held open in complete and utter shock and confusion. Crystal slowly turned to look and Earl, and Earl slowly turned to look at Crystal."That was..." Said Earl, "... So cool," said Crystal. Their shocked expressions slowly turned into huge smiles."Those guys are crazy," laughed Crystal. "I know right... They're even crazier than I am," said Earl with a huge smile on his face. Both of them hopped down from the training dummies and made their way over to the middle of the training grounds.Sidney and Jake were both huffing and puffing on the floor, breathing heavily. Blood ran down the side of both their faces."Wh-what... are we gonna... do now?" Said Jake. "What do you mean?" Said Sidney, "I won that fig
The explosion was large and huge, far bigger than what anyone was expecting. Not Jake, not Sidney, not Crystal, not Earl. However as the dust slowly settled, the aftermath came into view. The dome of crystals that Crystal had made to protect herself from Earl's attack was shattered to pieces, with only a few stems of crystals sticking out of the ground.Earl was standing there, with his hand held out, and with dust all over him. He began coughing as he waved his hand in front of his face, trying to clear away the dust.It didn't work very well. Earl opened one eye, looking at the place where Crystal was supposed to be. The dust hadn't cleared up, and as a result, he hadn't seen her to confirm she was down.'On second thought, maybe I used way too much firepower,' thought Earl, 'I hope she's okay,' he thought to himself. As he looked down into where she was once—the shattered dome of crystals, he saw a silhouette, one that closely resembled Crystal. It wasn't moving, and it was laid d
Sidney was there, holding himself up using nothing but one of his hands, and with a crystal spike not too far away from his throat, he accepted whole heartedly that he lost the fight."I can win her in close quarters combat," said Crystal. "That's probably what you were thinking right?" She smiled. Sidney couldn't help but see the irony of the whole situation. He'd known that the Lloyd's were stronger than normal, but he'd put his hopes in his enhanced body holding out. And it was the right call at the end. He bet on himself and won.His enhanced body proved strong enough to withstand the 100% force of the Lloyd's, but what he'd misjudged was Crystal's battle iq.She waited for the instant his hand made contact with the floor and picked her moment to strike perfectly. As Sidney remained upside down, he dispersed the mana he'd gathered in his throat, allowing the tiny alchemy circle to show itself.A mouth came out from the alchemy circle, biting repeatedly like a pair of jittering tee
Earl was panting on the floor, pinned down by a butt load of straw, which doubled as the other end of Sidney's arm.Earl messed up. He'd let the curious side of him out too much, egging Sidney on to press on the offensive. This was what ultimately caused his failure. Earl hadn't even shown all the tricks he had up his sleeve. But to be fair, neither had Sidney, both men had simply fought, and one ended up being the winner.Earl didn't feel bad in the slightest though. The thrill of fighting Sidney for the first time left him with a smile on his face."That's the match!!!" Yelled Jake, "Sidney wins, and Earl loses!" He added. "You're amazing, Sid," said Earl, wide grin on his face as he remained pinned down. Sidney reverted back to normal, the straw dissipated. He walked over and held out his hand, "that was a lot harder than I expected," he smiled. Earl grabbed his hand, Sidney pulled him up."So you can like, transform into Gy now?" Asked Earl. "It's a new spell I got," said Sidney
Chapters 225: A winner, Earl Vs SidneyCrystal still stayed in shock as she slowly turned her head around to see Jake. He had most likely used his wind to slow his fall so that when he landed next to her it would sound like he was farther away. She was still completely capable of fighting. They'd only just started the fight after all, and she hadn't shown all she had to offer, but the fight was already over.If this was a real fight to the death, he would've lopped off her head in that moment. Perhaps she was just overconfident before, but she'd been sloppy in her first match. No, she couldn't even make herself think she would've done better. There were still two people she would fight later, she could show more of her power then.As for now? She'd totally lost. A smile sat on her face. "Whoa... You weren't playing around," said Crystal. "I kept your face in tact, now you can seduce Henry another time without worrying about how pretty you are," Jake smirked."You think I'm pretty?" As
The rules of the mini-tournament were clear enough for everyone to follow. Whoever won the most battles would be the winner, and the ones who lost the most would be the fourth strongest.Though it wasn't completely official, it was still going to be had. The four of them knew that the difference in power between them would most likely be miniscule at best.Crystal was a natural talent, and she came from the family of the Lloyds, known for being incredible combatants. She was bound to be one of the strongest in the school from birth alone. Jake was the epitome of hard work. Luck was on his side from the beginning, so he was something of a big fish in a small pond. But now that he'd been introduced to the river, he still held his own. Wind alchemy wasn't seen as something incredible or noteworthy by most, but Jake had changed that fact in the minds of the students. He'd held his own as one of the strongest people amongst them, and he didn't look like he would stop growing anytime soon
