“This is my seal. Boris will accept it.”
“Thank you, Master.”
“It is nothing. Now go next door and meet Amelia. She will find you a place to settle down. It is safer to leave tomorrow morning.”
“Yes, Master.”
…
“What do you want?”
“Are you… Amelia?”
Jason stopped in front of the young woman.
Honestly, he didn’t expect to see a figure like this in such a place. She was definitely below thirty, and her looks weren’t inferior. She was a beauty except for the shallow healing scar across her left cheek.
Her grey shirt and long pants gave her a daring look that matched her deep black pupils. Jason thought her silver hair was exceptional. Her voice and gaze carried a cold and distant feeling.
What stomped him was not her looks or her cold eyes, but the strength she was hiding. This was the Grandmaster that observed him when he entered the village. She definitely had the ability to talk to any person in such a tone. Even to a weaker Wizard.
“I am. What do you need?”
‘Don’t you already know why I am here?’
He was sure she already knew he had been to meet Master Merlin.
“My name is Jason. I am looking for a place to stay tonight. Master Merlin said you might be able to help me.”
“Hm… There is an extra room in the house. You can stay there. Are there any weird behaviours I have to know about you?”
“Huh? I might leave at night and only come back in the morning.”
He showed her the armband.
Her behaviour didn’t puzzle him at all. A person like him didn’t pose any threats to her. Jason felt she still didn’t know that he knew about her strength. However, her indifferent eyes made him wonder if she was thinking of him as a child.
“If you can leave, why stay here?”
“I can leave back to my world, but I can only come back to the place I left.”
“That explains. Dinner will be ready by six, and I am closing the door by seven.”
“Thank you… Can I pay you with silver?”
He had no idea how much he should pay her, but he had no coppers or gold with him. He wasn’t trying to freeload, and he didn’t want to start on the wrong foot with someone as powerful as this.
“Money? What good is that?”
“Don’t you trade with the Forestedge?”
“We do? But what can we buy? People here trade gems and minerals from abandoned mines for food and other basic needs. Money is useless to Light Shone, so just keep it.”
“I understand.”Jason tied the small coin pouch back to his belt. He didn’t understand the current state of the village, but he decided to find out.
“I will be back before the dark.”
This woman had enough strength to feed the entire village, and so did Master Merlin. However, both seem to be retiring in this place, hiding from the world.
…
“Here.”
Dawn gave the coin back to Jason.
She was initially unhappy about receiving one silver to share with detestable Logan, but she still had to respect Jason’s demand. Besides, she wasn’t that hungry. Because of the intense training she had, Dawn could stay without food for days. She just asked this to confirm if the others also felt hungry like her.
“What happened?”
Jason wondered if the situation was bad as Amelia said.
“There is nothing for sale. The situation seems bad, man. Most people are not that well.”
Logan also wasn’t in the mood to fight Dawn. He saw the malnourished children and hungry villagers. Things were too real to the point where he failed to think that this was just a game and that these people were NPCs.
“Doesn’t Alexandria support them?”
“Apparently not. This village isn’t a part of Alexandria.”
“What?”
Jason frowned.
“Yeah. We talked to the village elder. This village was originally a part of the lost kingdom. Something that is supposed to be inside this forest. Then after it was gone, this village was left alone.”
“Gone?”
“Hm… Yeah. Something that happened a very long time ago. This village is apparently very old.”
“So no one is coming here?”
“Not really. Adventurers used to come here long ago, but now most explorations are happening at the sea. This was what the village leader said. I recorded everything, do you want to see it?”
Dawn was happy to assist Jason.
“No.”
Jason fell into thought for a moment.
‘This won’t do.’
He already established a valuable connection in this village. If nothing bad happened between him and Master Merlin, he would leave a great attachment to this place in the future.
Honestly, he had no idea what the future would bring to him, but Light Shone would be his starting point. He first had to make sure that this place was suitable for him to live in.
“Are you interested in hunting?”
This was the only way that came to his mind with the things available to him. Even for that, he wasn’t confident about hunting alone with his current body.
Food was one of the most important factors, and he had to rely on the resources of this village for that. Besides, gaining the trust of the villagers could ease many things. After all, he was not even from this world.
No matter what he experienced this far, he couldn’t expect all the people of Yuriel to treat him equally. On Earth, there were many problems among humans who lived in the same world.
He knew how people would treat the people from Earth once they started living here. No matter what they do, they would be people who came here from another place.
‘I wonder if I could find a different place.’
Even if the Angel of Death made sure they were treated fairly in his past life, there were many things she couldn’t do.
‘I have to make sure I have the right to live here peacefully.’
In the end, this was the world he would live in the future.
“Hunting? Do you have a plan?”
Logan was interested. The hunger was real, and it was shown as a debuff on their stats. He wondered if it was even possible to play this game properly.
“Hmm. Did you see any blacksmith?”
“Yeah. It is located on that side.”
“Let’s go.”
He couldn’t hunt with a sword with his current strength. Especially not the monstrous animals that lived on Yuriel.
Along the way, Jason learned the real condition in the village. There were around three hundred families in the village, and most younger people seemed to be leaving. Since there was no exact value left in this small place, Alexandria seemed to have let it slip out of their grasp. As for the ones that were left in the village, they lead a scavenging life of collecting minerals and gems in the abandoned mines. Which was a risky matter, with the animals and unstable mines. This explained why there were no official guards in this village, and the reason for two hidden characters to appear there.Jason felt enlightened, but he was also baffled. He didn’t know about a lost kingdom that existed thousands of years ago. ‘I thought I lived here for twenty-five years. Apparently, I know nothing.’However, he felt this might be the real reason for no powerful wizard trying to claim this massive continent. Still, he was nobody to look into such deep matters. As for now, he had to hunt without
‘That feeling….’After resting for an hour, Jason got up from his cabin. ‘I risked my life.’He couldn’t shake off the disappointing feeling. Honestly, he knew he just underestimated the strength of the boar, and he definitely overestimated himself. If he received that injury in real life, he would be a cripple without the help of a Life Wizard. He already knew Dawn couldn’t do anything against the boar. Even he couldn’t penetrate its skin. If not a wizard, only a master-level warrior with an aura could harm it easily. The only other way to kill it with ease was to target its vital points. That was what he wanted to do, but he wasn’t powerful enough. ‘How did I forget the rules of hunting?’In the first five years of his life on Yuriel, wild game was exclusive to nobles and higher powers. It was exactly due to the difficulty of hunting. The animals they bred in captivity were somewhat smaller and less ferocious. In fact, he was just thinking of himself as the Master Swordsman he on
“Jason. Come and have a seat.”Freya’s voice sounded cold. Jason nodded to Freya, who seemed to be a bit hostile toward him. He noticed fifty or so people giving him odd eyes. He actually didn’t mind them as he knew they were looking at his worn-out clothes. He received similar looks when he entered the massive skyscraper. If not for Ashley's personal card, he wouldn’t be even able to get here. He ignored everyone and found a chair at the end.It was the building's 11th floor, and he saw many different gaming cabins and other facilities on the way there. This room looked more like a gym and had several mats on the ground. The steel chairs and the light table looked as if they were carried here in a hurry. They were playing several recordings people had in the game. Jason liked the recording method of the videos, but he knew the secret behind this first-person view. The armband was directly connected to the human brain and these footages were what people see in their view. There
“Sigh.”Freya gritted her teeth. Since they already invested in The Endless, there was no way to pull back at the moment. She was testing the waters with Jason. Besides, she was too surprised to hear that Jason had that much in-game currency with him.‘Is he a Beta tester? But there was no Beta testing.’Compared to Jason, their pro-gamers looked like immature children. If not for the fact that she trained them for a month, things would have been much worse today. “Fifty!”She knew there was no currency available for sale. Honestly, she already checked the available channels. ‘Huh?’Jason looked at Freya with a puzzled mind.“One hundred, each.”Freya clenched her fists, thinking Jason was trying to refuse. She wondered if he was lying.“D… Done.”Jason took a moment to process the information. ‘Did she say one hundred, each? Should I scrap more silvers? I should rather decide after receiving the reward for the message.’He thought for a moment before deciding. Even though the pric
“Are you ready?”“Yes, Master.”Freya didn’t break her eye contact with Jason as she answered her master. She carefully studied the young man in front of her. The reason for all this to start was Jason’s fault. She was annoyed by him to the point where she had to vent her frustration.Jason was the first man she met that had no regard for her words. He simply said whatever he wanted and did whatever he felt like doing. Of course, she admitted that he was capable, at least in The Endless. What he delivered to them so far was obviously valuable, but she had to teach him a lesson. On top of everything, she hated his arrogance. He refused to put on any protective gear and simply used the gloves saying he didn’t want to hurt her. Not only that, but now he was standing there with one arm behind his back like an idiot. The more Freya thought, the more she became angry. Jason had no respect for her. Still, she refused to forget all the practice she had over the years. It was never good t
‘Sigh. I am finally out.’Jason felt relieved when he finally stepped out of the village. He now had a total of thirty-five silvers and a couple of sapphires the villagers exchanged for meat. The gems weren’t as valuable as they were on Earth, but he could earn at least another fifty silvers from these. After breakfast, Logan and Dawn trusted him to sell the things they got from the village and bring back the money. There was a reason for those two to stay behind, and it almost cost him his life. “Damn… I should be careful when I am talking with her….”He almost crossed Amelia for the second time when Logan and Dawn asked him to teach them swordsmanship. Since Amelia was better than him, he looked at her instinctively. Luckily, he didn’t receive much trouble other than a sharp gaze and a terrifying little chat of ten minutes. Finally, she agreed to teach Logan and Dawn instead of him.Even if he reached the level he was in his past life, he would never be able to match with someone
“Young man, do you know about the Lost Kingdom?”“No, I just heard that name yesterday.”Jason had never heard about this story before.“It is a kingdom that was supposed to be where the Dark Forest is.”“Supposed to be? What is the kingdom's name?”He frowned. Rather than truth, this sounded more like a story. “You are sharp, kid. But can you bear the consequences of knowing the truth?”“I think I have to know.”Honestly, Jason started to feel like this was a game. If Xanders said the same thing to another player; especially one who didn’t know the truth behind The Endless, they would have thought this was a story with rich lore. “Very well, keep this to yourself, then. The truth is that even the name of the kingdom is erased from history.”“Huh? Are you sure there was a kingdom?”“Young man, if you explore the Dark Forest you may find many ruins.”“Then why is the name erased?”Jason raised his brow.“Listen well, young man. The story started about two thousand years ago. It says
Jason sat inside the small stone house with Master Merlin. The living room gave a slight scent of herbs and he felt some intense mana coming from one of the rooms. He didn’t care much about that since it wasn’t very useful to him at the moment. Magic stones were good to increase the opening rate of magic nodes in a person’s body, but not until he reached the novice level. “Jason, before teaching you the magic, let me give you the knowledge about how magic works and what it is.”“Yes, Master.”“Very well then. Listen, my young student.”Jason saw a content smile on Master Merlin’s face. Of course, he knew many things about magic, but he wasn’t lying when he told Master Merlin that he was ready to learn. What he knew was the knowledge that came out during a time of catastrophe, and he never had a high enough position to learn everything. He would listen to everything even if there was no change in his knowledge.…Jason tried his best to add what he knew and listen to what he learned
