The original inhabitants brought resources from other planets and objects in the surrounding solar system to this planet, and the crash of the floating constructions made it worse. In the end, the planet had more materials than its original mass, and Jason thought of getting rid of them over time.

Also, the lack of sunlight due to the polluted sky, and the energy was a limited resource for the time being. He had to clear the sky to ensure the machines could work for a longer time.
