‘Am I crazy?’
Raymond wanted to take back those words the moment they left his mouth.
He wanted to act as if he had just said them out of curiosity. However, that wasn’t the reason for his words. These were the exact words he heard from the dread king.
The moment Raymond informed about Jason to his contractor, he got the question of why he was informing them about Jason now. Raymond could only explain why he wanted to confirm if Jason was truly the one. It was a poor excuse, but he had no other explanation for the delay.
Rymond expected some kind of backlash from his decision to delay the information from reaching his contractor. However, he felt a drastic change in the emotions of the dread king the moment he observed Jason through Raymond’s eyes.
‘Not human. Heavily corrupted by the dark dimension. That human is partially a dimensional horror.’
Just after giving him the message, the dread king cut off the connection between them out of nowhere, leaving Raymond in a daze.
It was obvious even the dread king didn’t want to deal with Jason for the time being.
Corruption of the dark dimension was an extremely rare occurrence even in The Endless. The only way for a human or an animal to be corrupted by the energy of the dark dimension was for them to be exposed to the dimensional fissures for a long time.
This rarely happened because usually, a dimensional horror would soon follow a fissure. No animal or human would spend their time willingly near a fissure to another dimension. Even if they did, many creatures didn’t survive the corruption. As for those who survived, they would lose their mind as their bodies altered with the corruption.
The corrupted ones would then go on a rampage, annihilating all living beings until someone superior would take them down. The corrupted being would lose their intelligence, but they would gain superior physical capabilities and advanced regenerative abilities.
‘Those corrupted creatures would never look like this.’
Raymon knew how their physical bodies would change and how they would lose their minds.
Jason Hope in front of him was in perfect shape and had a sharp mind. There were no signs of corruption.
‘Will he take it as a disrespect?’
No matter what, Raymond considered Jason as the crown jewel of humanity.
“I….”
He wanted to explain his reasoning.
“Huh? Corruption? Are you talking about the mutation?”
“Huh? Mutation? Is that what you call it?”
Raymond felt baffled by Jason’s question.
They knew the mutation due to the exposure to various energies of magical domains. The corruption was something completely different to them. The mutated creatures would have changes in their bodies, but they wouldn’t lose their minds.
“That is a bit different.”
Raymond tried his best to explain to Jason the difference between mutation and corruption.
…
‘That is weird.’
Jason knew Raymond was referring to his mutation.
With the bond he formed with Nocturne, Jason was sure that the mutation came from the dark dimension.
However, the source of his original mutation came with the first simulation.
‘I am not sure how it even affects me.’
The mutation surely improved his physical stats even in the real world. However, he never saw any physical changes in his body other than when he was in simulations. As far as he remembered, he never lost his mind because of the mutation.
‘The mutants are not unintelligent beasts.’
In his very first simulation, the place where he first learned about the mutation, Jason learned the invaders who brought the mutation were from an advanced galactic species. Also, according to Amelia, the mutant had intelligence similar to humans and they also had the same technologies.
The corruption Raymond mentioned was similar, but Jason wondered if a person would lose their mind completely. He knew the mutation caused him to have increased bloodlust at the initial stage, but it went down as the mutation progressed.
He wondered if they were talking about the same thing.
“Hm… I think I have some effects of mutation, but I can’t show you.”
Jason wondered if there was a way for him to get the mutation out of his body.
He didn’t mind having the mutation as it made him stronger at almost no cost. He knew the mutation was there since he felt it with the connection of Nocturne, but he couldn't surface it.
‘Now that I think about it. Is the mutation there even when I am in Yuriel?’
According to Amelia, all the simulations he went through could be real. If so, he might be a partial mutant.
‘I wonder what happened to those kids….’
He thought of the children he trained in his second simulation.
“You… You can’t… Mr Jason… This isn’t a joke….”
“Huh?”
Jason came back to reality with the sudden question.
“I am not joking. I can’t bring out my mutation at will. Well… According to you… Corruption.”
“What do you mean…? Are you saying you are corrupted? I mean….”
“Well… Sort of. But I am in perfect mind.”
Jason shrugged.
“But… How?”
“I am not sure. But… Do you think it is the reason for my advancement?”
Jason raised his brow.
He also thought this was a possibility, but it brought many other questions to his mind.
If that was the case, then everyone who reached beyond Grand Wizard level, including Amelia, should be some sort of a mutant.
Even if he gained the ability to break the shackles, there was another reason one might fail to advance beyond the limit.
The reason was the flow reversal.
If not for Amelia, even Jason would have hesitated to follow this path.
‘It is no wonder Grand Wizards are stuck. No one is willing to share this knowledge with them.’
The floor reversal was a concept that could scare any wizard.
It was reversing the flow of magic within one's body to unblock the Magic nodes. This was similar to crashing two forces opposing one another inside the body.
‘It is not difficult to try it out, but I guess no one is daring enough to do so.’
It was a risk that many wizards wouldn’t take. Even if they did, most of them would try that out when they reached the end of the line for them. A weak body couldn’t handle the flow reversal, and it would harm the wizard instead of helping them to open the next Magic node.
‘It is difficult if no one is willing to share this knowledge.’
It would be different if the wizards were desperate for a breakthrough.
However, it wasn’t the case in places like Yuriel. The Grand Wizards were the ultimate power, and they were the true royalties on the planet. There was no reason for them to push themselves beyond the limits with unwanted risks.
Until the invasion from the Cervians in his past life, no Grand Wizard on Yuriel had a life-threatening challenge except for old age.
“Can we test some of your blood… Mr Jason?”
“That is not a problem.”
Jason looked at the excited scientists standing behind Raymond.
“Really? Can we really examine your blood?”
“Go ahead. I will try to see if I can bring out my mutation. But didn’t you test my blood already?”
Jason pondered for a moment.
“We did, Mr Jason. But we didn’t look for the corruption of darkness.”
The lead scientist looked a bit worried.
“Corruption of darkness. That is a fancy word.”
For the first time, Jason tried to feel the mutation in his body.
‘This level of control over spells? I never thought it was possible. This is a true world of magic.’Jason closed the book with complicated feelings. He spent a few more days studying the profound Magic of the Endless.‘That is very strange even to think.’The VR game they launched on Earth was The Endless, and this world was also The Endless. He had a nagging feeling that there was a connection between these two. However, he failed to find any direct link at the moment. Still, Jason admitted this world had the very essence of magic. The spells had been refined for ages to appoint where everything was precise. The usage of power was optimal with the best possible casting time. He spent time looking into the details and trying to refine his spells using these methods. Other than that, Jason did some soul-searching while he was here. He actively looked for the remnants of the mutation within him. Surprisingly, he found traces of mutation in his body. It was hidden within his blood
“I did it.”Raymond opened his eyes. His heart fluttered with emotions. Finally, he broke the human limit. He was no longer an average human wizard who failed to advance. ‘I should thank him. But… Where is he?’He realised he didn’t see Jason Hope among the people waiting outside. Everyone looked excited, but Jason Hope, who guided them on the path of redemption wasn't there. ‘He is the greatest contributor to mankind. I am sure our leaders will reward him for sure.’With his success, they finally found the way to advancement. Genetic mutation through corruption and the flow reversal. Both of these came from the mysterious man, Jason Hope. Jason Hope’s name would go down in history as the greatest contributor to human advancement.‘Well… I should go out.’He saw the small celebration happening outside the protected chamber. “Boom!”A loud boom shook him in his very soul. The earth shook, and the walls of their underground bunker shook. ‘What is this?’He realised the sound wasn
‘Here we go.’Jason again found himself floating in the void. He felt he had more control over his emotions than before, but that didn’t help him from feeling terrified. The same void, the same scene, and it was the same battle. The end of the universe as he called it. Jason felt the feelings had become too real for him to handle the pressure of the situation.‘How can I be so helpless? How can all these advanced civilisations be so helpless?’He felt the terror gripping his heart as he stared at the ending. …A glowing spaceship wandered at the edge of a black hole in a dark corner of the universe. While everything in the surrounding hag showed signs of destruction and annihilation, It absorbed the energy from the black hole to power up itself. The spaceship looked as if it had the most advanced technology available, and the bright lighting emitting from it gave a sense of liveliness in the empty and broken space. The energy shield around it lit up from time to time, burning up t
‘I am back. What a relief….’Jason felt relieved when he found himself back in the familiar room. He was back on Yuriel, and he was home. The time he spent away was much less in this simulation, but it was still away from his loved ones. Also, this simulation was eventful, where he had to interact with many new things daily. ‘Hm…?’A smile crept up as he felt the rapid footsteps approaching him.He missed these two a lot.“Daddy!”The little bundle of joy fell into his arms. “Hanna… Eh…?”Jason felt something was wrong when he felt the wetness on her face. “Hig… Hig… Daddy… I miss you.”“Hm?”Jason felt baffled by her words. It was still dark outside, and everything looked the same as when he left Yuriel. Ah… Did they change?’Amelia and Hanna had different clothes compared to what he remembered them wearing when he was dragged away. ‘But why aren’t they wearing night clothes?’This wasn’t Hanna’s pyjamas, and Amelia had clothes she usually wore during the day. “I was only gon
“Is it done?”Jason looked at the writings on the eggshell. His blood started drying as Amelia wrote on it in some ancient language. He knew this was the one she had used before to bind Nyx to Hanna. He wanted to learn this from her but still hadn’t found time to do so. “It is done. Now we just have to get one drop of Hanna’s blood.”Amelia looked at Hanna with a smile.“Eh… Will it hurt, Mommy?”Hanna tried to act brave, but Jason saw signs of worry hidden in her face. “Of course not. Have I ever hurt you?”“Noooo.”“Well then, I am not going to hurt you now. Come on, give me your hand.”Jason smiled from the side, looking at the interaction between the two. Amelia wasn’t verbal, but her love for Hanna was obvious. She treated Hanna like a real daughter, just like he did.“Come here.”Amelia pressed his index finger on Hanna’s thumb, and the latter closed her eyes.Jason looked at Amelia and she had a smile on her face. Jason knew Amelia was more than powerful enough to take a dro
“We need to talk.”Amelia whispered to the side. Hanna seemed happy, and she saw no problem with the contract. Since it was a blood contract made even before the creature came to life, it should be effective enough. “Mommy! Mommy! Daddy! Daddy!”The little creature seemed to repeat what it heard from Hanna, and it seemed to be energetic. It flew around Hanna while waiting for its master to choose the proper dress for her. In the end, Amelia made three similar gowns from three different colours for Hanna. It wasn’t a difficult task, and she knew it would make Hanna happy. The little thank you kiss she received made her worth. After all, things like making clothes were never in her mind. ‘If I was back there….’There was a time when she would receive everything from clothes to food to her hands from the moment she woke up. However, that was a long time ago, and she knew how difficult it was to go back to that time. ‘Things changed a lot. I hope I won’t get blamed for all this.’She
“Do you think there was a world like that?”“I am not sure….”Amelia wondered if what Jason described was truly possible. A world where Magical creatures lived together with humans. She knew Jason’s previous simulation was a time-travel event where he created the Titan civilization. On the other hand, she didn’t know much about his previous simulations. However, what Jason described this time was beyond her level of comprehension. There was also a problem with why the world described by Jason only had humans in it. The magic wasn’t exclusive to humans, and many other races had wizards among their ranks. ‘There is a possibility that all that is to be an illusion.’As for the Ancient Wrath’s egg, the person who supported Jason could have easily passed it to him. However, it made her question where the egg came from in the first place. ‘Could this really be true?’If what Jason described was true, it could be a part of history she never heard of. The details of the first to the fo
‘It is sure getting lively/’Jason didn’t log out since he came back to Yuriel. Hanna finally fell asleep at dawn, and her new pet also followed her to bed. He sent back Nocturne after Hanna wanted to sleep. Nocturne seemed to be greatly interested in Hanna as all he wanted to do was to play with her. It took some time for Hanna to adjust to Nocturne, but there were no other incidents after the first one where everyone panicked. Still, Amelia was a bit wary of Nocturne's presence around Hanna.Amelia took over the duty of preparing breakfast after Hanna fell asleep. She gave Jason some time to sit down and gather his thoughts. Many things happened while he was in the simulation, and his three days of absences must have caused a lot of news in Light Shone as well. “Let’s see what changed.”He knew there were changes in his body since he contracted Nocturne, but he didn’t get to check them. Besides, he had ninety-four Magic nodes open at the moment.‘I can do more now.’He didn’t bl
