In response to the unprecedented attack by the Namhors, the planetary invaders, humans began a mass recruitment of willing people into the earth's military force.
The military force and every other offensive and defensive forces of all countries were synthesized into a single force for the sole purpose of fighting against the planetary invaders whenever they come attacking once more.
At the moment, the earth's was enjoying a peaceful moment but no one doubted that it wouldn't last for in several occasions, irregular moments of peace was observed in between the heated clashes and nothing differentiated those earlier moments of brief peace from now.
Although several theories had been put out, the actual reason for the attacks of the, Namhors enemies of human kind on humans was unknown. The only known fact was that they would return and when they do, humans would suffer great losses. Many fear that soon enough, many human youths would be conscripted into the earth's military force or everyone would be compelled to go for military trainings.
Just like earlier, the road was smooth and was made busy by only a few vehicles. The interiors of the car also was quiet and comfortable. Just the ideal situation Sunny needed at the moment.
He had many issues going through his mind threatening to burst his skull open. On spotting the military men earlier he knew that he would not be given the opportunity to speak with Roger who he badly needed to ask about what happened the previous day and even bribe him to speak if need be. He felt better when Roger intercepted him however he did not feel any better at the end of their conversation as what he told him made no sense to him. "How the hell did he fly?"
After racking his brain unsuccessfuly quite a long while for answers, he decided to give up.
The answers he had to the mysteries which he had been tasked to unravel at the moment were that his mother was killed by Razta." He clenched his fists on remembering this fact. Even though he knew Razta had been given a lifetime punishment, he still did not feel satisfied. He even doubted if taking a pound of flesh off his body would make him feel better. He really needed to take more than that. He wished he could show him the wickedest way to die.
To the second question, although it made no sense to him, Roger made him understand that he flew back into the room after jumping off and that on discovering that he had this ability, he now respected him for not showing off and using it against him whenever he came to bully him.
The fact that he flew did not go down well with Sunny. He had heard of humans who possessed abilities which may include flight but never in his life had he fantasized and wished for the ability of flight. In fact he hated it. He was only thankful that it did save him but knowing that most humans could wield not more than two abilities, he would not love an ability such as that to take up his ability slot.
If he really did fly, why was that so? He no longer doubted the fact that he flew back into his bed because all other guesses he made weren't even possible or intelligible however, he couldn't still understand why he flew.
A familiar click sounded sounded in his head and a menu popped up as usual.
[Quest Unravel the unknown completed]
This notification confirmed to him that he really flew back to his bed as it only appeared after he was certain of his mother's killers and understood how he managed to survive his fall just like it did after he escaped being killed after being saved by Sergeant Scott however it brought dozens of mysteries to his mind: What was this? Is it only peculiar to him alone? Is it a coincidence that it appeared at this moment of his life? Does it have anything to do with his previous day's flight?
[Quest received: Reach level ten]
A notification popped up before him stunning him a bit as he had not expected it.
He stared at it for a while then curiosity got a better part of him. Earlier, he had a lot on his mind but at that moment, he had all the time he required to discover what the hell these notifications were and where they came from.
He had only seen similar things in movies and had never thought that such a thing would really be in existence. He searched his head fruitlessly for a possible reason why these notifications popped up in his head.
"What really have I become?" A robot?" He queried himself and just as he expected, he heard a click in his head and a screen popped up before him
[Name: Sunny Raven]
[Race: Scanning...]
[Level 1]
[0/100 exp]
[Strength: 10]
[Agility: 10]
[Stamina: 10]
[State: Normal]
"It is still yet to discover my race. I am a human for God's sake!" He screamed inwardly feeling bad that for several hours the stuff was still unable to tell what race he belonged.
"What really are you?" He directed his question to whatever made the menu pop up before him.
[Quest received: Reach level ten] another menu appeared before him.
"Does this mean that all my questions will be made clear to me on reaching level ten?" He asked but this time there was no response whatever form from wherever. He sighed helplessly and shook his head.
"I think you are too dumb to stay within me." He cursed it for not replying his questions.
He scanned the vehicle which he sat within at the moment. This having been transferred to another vehicle he sat amongst many strange students who he had never seen before. There was no one whose face seemed to ring a bell in his memory. This was also the case with every other person within the vehicle to everyone, everyone else looked strange.
Sunny didn't care. He only wanted to know if there was another person who could see what he saw and if he would see anything similar before another person but there was nothing as such neither did anyone stare at him in an interesting way.
He sank back into the car seat which he sat on to explore what he had gotten and figure out things for himself as much as he could.
It strangely looked so similar to video games he had enjoyed playing. By wishing to explore and not asking questions, a new screen was displayed before him which contained more tabs and menus than had ever been displayed before him.
Beneath the quest tab was another for skills. Driven by curiousity he entered it just by merely making a thought of it.
[Skills]
[Unlocks at level 10]
"What else can I do with this?" He asked and soon got disappointed at discovering nothing else. However he wasn't so down he really wanted to know what lay in wait for him at level ten . "Perhaps it would be fun combining it's games with the academy's hassles." He concluded optimistically.
Many fell asleep but Sunny could not sleep not when he had the opportunity to watch what the earth had become. He felt pained on sighting Citywide a once bustling city could now be best described as deserted ruins. The only pointer to the fact that they were in city side was the damaged welcome and goodbye signs.
Somewhere at the outskirts of the city, the military cars lined up in a convoy came to a halt before a large shelter heavily guarded by armed soldiers.
Without much formalities, the students were made to stand in a single file and were led to a large room where for the first time in their life the saw the legendary teleporter which have been talked about so much talked about, a simple looking device with a large circular hole at the centre.
The circular hole was filled with what looked like a friendly blue flame when the teleporter was turned on after the coordinates for the teleportation had been imputed.
Next, a soldier stepped in then in a likewise manner all the student who had lined up including Sunny stepped in. Many felt uneasy stepping into the 'impossible' invention especially after seeing it distort the space around the human who steps in however, they had no options than to follow the previous students. In the course if the teleport, all students felt as though they were being squeezed and very few felt nauseous however all these feelings vanished when they realised where they had been teleported to; an abode of futurist inventions too advanced than they ever thought the earth could hold at that moment many of which looked risky to them and for many reasons made them feel like there would certainly be accidents. When this did not happen after many moments if sightseeing, their view of the military academy began to change to a perfect world of superb inventions.
The buildings all around them were so big and were sculpted into unique architectural designs which looked strange at first but on closer inspection, they began to look more like representations with several meanings and significance.
Seeing this no one could doubt that the humans only managed to make this huge leap in technological advancements by monitoring and studying how the Namhors weapons and other inventions of theirs worked.
No doubt the topography and vegetation of the area wasn't only carefully selected but also heavily influenced by several factors including human factors.
The rate at which several buildings which were being erected at different points in the lush green plain, also pointed to the fact that the military academy might soon become compulsory for every for human.
For quite a long while, the soldiers did not stop the countless freshmen from gazing tirelessly at the fascinating sight before them and Sunny got totally carried away by the sight before him to notice that the students were now had been asked to move to a certain direction. He only snapped out of his awe when he felt a light tap on his back.
A well built blue eyed boy slightly bigger than him called him back to reality.
"We're already moving." He told him with a friendly smile.
Sunny fit himself into the line just before the boy and once again, in a single file, they walked into a building. Just at the door, they were handed a digital badge and then a machine which scanned them for reasons they didn't know then into a very large hall with countless soldier's.
"Hang your badge on where you feel it is most convenient on you. It is the most item you will have throughout your stay in the academy. Without it, you will be denied access to every privileges you should enjoy as a student including your meal daily allowances, use of facilities and so much more. It is simply your lifeline.
Your badges also displays your respective Energy level." An unseen informant told them and they did just what they had been told although most of them just like Sunny found it difficult to understand what they had been told as all the terms were strange.
"Right now, we will begin testing your levels." This time it was sergeant Scott who spoke. Even though this too sounded strange they all braced themselves up for all they knew it was a test which would surely affect them in several ways in the course of their stay in the academy. Edit
After being dealt devastating blows by Namhors in their first clashes, humans sought alternative sources of power and only then did they suprisingly discover some truths in the existence of magic. In fact, magic was discovered amongst humans. It was not in the form widely known by many which was casting of evil spells but magicians were able to do things beyond the natural without much difficulty. To make it more acceptable to many humans, these powers were termed abilities.Science found facts and useful theories in many arts which had been written off by some religions as devilish. Both people who possessed such powers and those which could not be explained by science were pleaded with to join the earth's military. Some shared their powers in the form of seals and imparted knowledge of it to others using mediums such as magical books while others who believed sharing of powers could be damaging were more secretive about theirs. When the art of magic became widely spread it was disc
"Must I always have stalkers on me?" Sunny wondered. Even though he heard no footsteps or any other sounds from anything animate, he was so sure that he was being followed. But who was it, and what does anyone want from him this time?He stopped for a brief moment before continuing to walk down the lonely alleyway. He did not know how possible it was, but he was so sure that whatever was following him was continuously drawing nearer. He turned sharply to at least catch a glimpse of what it was before it ducked or hid, but just like earlier, behind him was an empty alleyway so silent, just as it had always been."What the hell, you cowardly piece of shit. If you really want to get something from me, why don't you do it in an open confrontation? Why do you prefer to hide behind me and continue coming closer whenever I turn my back? Don't you think attacking me from behind is too brazen?" He screamed but got no response asides the echo of his voice which kept bouncing back to him. After
Gradually, his consciousness returned to him. Everything was calm just like he had expected the afterlife to be; so cold and lonely. Lucky enough for him, since he was already dead, he would find comfort and solace in his momma's embrace and just that would give him the warmth he required. He didn't open his eyes at once; he first smiled at his expectations which was of course seeing his mother's smiling face first on opening his eyes. Next, little by little, he let his tightly shut eyelids loose then with a little more effort he pushed his eyes open and just like he had expected, his mother was sitting next to where he lay patiently waiting eagerly for him to open his eyes."Mama." He hollered softly with a dreamy voice. He was so glad that he really saw her first. Unfortunately, this half dreaming state of his faded away. When he spoke, his senses awoke fully ushering the full reality to him; the same reality where his mom was no more. He no longer had a Mama to cover him up so h
"Sunny you aren't leaving home until you make your hair look much more better than this. Why do you derive pleasure in looking like a weirdo?" This has been his mother's anthem almost every morning whenever he thought he was set to leave for townside where his school and many other amenities they needed for survival was located. "In response to this, he would smack his head with his palms, mutter some words of insults to himself in regret forgetting that once more however, this does not stop him from forgetting again a day or two days later.Vera, his mother, starved and overworked herself to ensure that he had the best of the things she considered most important in his life.
