I Can't Accept This

“Host is expected to get up at the crack of dawn for physical training.” The already familiar voice of the system rang out, waking Leonard up.

Leonard peered outside and confirmed that it was still dark outside. However, he stood up and headed outside his room.

He opened the door carefully, making sure that he didn’t wake his mother up before heading outside.

“Before considering martial arts, the most important thing is to build the physical body to an optimal condition using strength training….”

Leonard listened attentively to all the instructions the guardian gave. Very quickly, he ran several laps around their neighbourhood until he was panting and dripping with sweat, and even when he felt like he was going to drop dead from lack of breath, the guardian’s instructions didn’t ring out.

After running and lifting objects up the hill for about an hour, the system's guardian finally said he could stop.

“Mental strength +2!”

“Physical strength +0.5!”

Although it wasn’t anything important right now, Leonard still smiled with happiness and then went back inside to get ready for the day.

With everything that had happened yesterday, he had been unable to save his money in the home bank he usually used.

Upon bringing up the wad of notes that Peter had given him, he was stunned to see a total of $900 there.

Even if he worked for two months, he might not have earned such an amount!

What was even more surprising to Leonard was how easily the system had known the amount. He had a total of $300 in savings before, and now, with this, they had some more money again.

He saved $700 and kept $200 asides.

After he was done getting ready, he rubbed his entire body with his mother’s homemade ointment over all the bruises from yesterday.

Although it was only the difference of one night. With his mother’s ointment, the pain had gone and only the purple marks were left.

By the time he was ready to leave for school, his mother was already awake and had started laundry.

“I made a bowl of porridge for you. You can have it before the first bus arrives,”

Leonard didn’t argue and sat at the small table to eat. He ate very quickly, drinking the porridge in two mouthfuls.

“Mom, I left some money on the table for you, don’t walk to the city this time around, okay?”

Like always, he boarded the bus and allowed his mind to think over everything that happened between yesterday and this morning.

When he got to school, some of the people that saw him pass by looked at him twice. It was just one day but the Leonard that had entered the classroom yesterday with a stained uniform and a little out of breath from running late was far apart from the Leonard this morning.

His entire person reeked of confidence, and he even seemed a lot more charismatic. Aura was one of the most significant things about a person. A lot of people notice an aura first, even before the dressing. However, it was not a widely acknowledged thing.

Since he had hurried to school because of the plans he made with Susan previously. Only very few students were around.

The ones that were around were also not the troublesome ones and they didn’t find trouble with him.

After signing the first attendance sheet, Leonard went to the library to meet with Susan.

“Leonard, you are here,” Susan said as she beamed at him.

She shifted, patting the space beside her so he could sit down.

“Before we start, if you don’t mind, I got you a gift,” Susan whispered, and Leonard watched, a little curious and a little uncomfortable, as she opened her bag.

She pulled out a white box and passed it to him with her cheeks turning red and a shy expression on her face, “My savings couldn’t buy more than this model, but it’s also a new model,”.

Leonard looked at the white box that she placed in his hands and placed it back in her hands.

“I’m sorry, Susan, but I can’t accept this.”
