Chapter 6: “Kill the Beasts”

Ares felt a surge of power coursing through his veins. He smiled brightly and said, “I almost forgot. I have a new strength to test out.”

He didn’t need to chant any spells; he only had to imagine his skills and they would manifest. He conjured two balls of white fire and hurled them at the nearest red fur dogs.

The fireballs exploded on impact, creating a loud noise and a blast of hot and cold air. Ares saw the red fur dogs vanish in the flames. He said, “What a strange fire. It burns and freezes at the same time.”

The other red fur dogs saw their fallen comrades and howled for backup. Soon, Ares was surrounded by eight more of them.

He said, “I used two mana to kill two of them. That’s too slow. Let me show you 10% of my power.”

He created eight more fireballs around him and aimed them at the red fur dogs. They sensed the danger and tried to flee, but it was too late. Ares said, “You shouldn’t have come here. Now you must die.”

The fireballs flew out and hit their targets, creating a series of explosions that wiped out the red fur dogs. Nothing was left of them except ashes.

Ares was amazed by his own power. He said, “I only have low-level skills, but I’m this strong. How much stronger would I be if I had high-level skills? Maybe I could have shown them my strength back then.”

“Master, you need to reach level 500 to unlock the intermediate level skills in the shop. For high-level skills, you need to be at least level 1000. The same goes for the equipment in the system shop.”

Ares said, “I don’t care about intermediate or high-level skills right now. But I want to buy two more skills. System, recommend me a skill that can increase my speed and a skill that can enhance my sword attacks.”

“Buy both.” Ares didn’t hesitate and bought the two skills that the system suggested.

Ares felt the knowledge of the two new skills enter his mind. He learned them in a matter of seconds and was ready to use them.

“Mission failure penalty. All your soul mates will die.”

Ares was shocked by the mission and its penalty. He said, “What a sudden mission. And what kind of penalty is that? System, are you joking?”

“If you don’t want to lose all your soul mates, master, just kill the beasts.”

Ares heard the word soul mates again and realized something. He said, “What do you mean by soul mates? Will I have many of them in the future?”

“You lewd master. Please focus on the mission.”

The system’s voice startled Ares. He said, “Fine, I’ll do the mission. I have to secure my bright future.”

He ran towards the north, but then he stopped. “Master, they are coming from the south.”

“System, you are so considerate. If you were a human, you would be my type.”

“You are single, why don’t you flirt with the system?” The system said something that Ares couldn’t hear.

Ares changed his direction and headed south. He left Avalon City and waited for the beasts that were about to attack. He said, “The city is about 5 kilometers from here. This is a good place to slaughter the beasts that threaten my future.”

He held his sword in his right hand and a fireball as big as five basketballs in his left hand. He could hear the footsteps of thousands of savage beasts. The ground was shaking under their weight. They were a huge horde.

“Come on, you future burdens. Let me kill you and preserve my bright future.”

Various kinds of wild animals emerged from the thick forest. There were tens, hundreds, and then almost five thousand of them. The weakest beast was level 30 and was at the front. The strongest beast was level 700 and looked like a winged lion.

“BOOM… BOOM… BOOM…” The sound of explosions filled the air as Ares threw his fireballs at the beasts.

“This is my opening attack,” he shouted as he continued to rain fire on the beasts.

Ares killed more than four thousand beasts and leveled up 42 times. His power increased greatly. The remaining hundreds of beasts were no match for him. Even the beast leader was not a worthy opponent for Ares.

Two hundred beasts with levels above 300 surrounded him. Among them, there were 20 beasts with level 500. They could destroy Avalon City if they reached it.

“I recovered my condition and mana after leveling up. It’s time for dessert. They should at least get me to level 190.”

Ares decided not to use his fireballs anymore. He chose to attack directly with his sword and his two new skills.

Ares cut off dozens of beast heads with one slash.

Ares’ speed and double slashes made it easy for him to hit the vital points of the enemies and kill them. Only 20 level 500 beasts and one level 700 beast were left.
