Chapter 13: Gratitude.

Yana and Garun both left Shi Yan behind.

Shi Yan felt that he was being used and it didn't feel quite right for him at first, but after accepting facts and the benefits he's being given, he's actually just a rich heir with almost no constraints on ihm.

But after pondering for a bit, he's the one actually using them.

They are just following the orders left behind by his ancestors. Basically, his ancestors weren't forcing him to follow their will, he was given options.

They were even so kind as to provide him an allowance that even most rich people wouldn't be able to give.

Following their orders and getting an unknown amount of wealth that would probably burst out the mind of most if not all the rich people in the world.

He then asked himself, is it too much for them to ask for some conditions to gain their hard-earned wealth?

To Shi Yan that had to work for pennies, it's not.

They probably didn't know who he is, and yet, they were willing to give him this inheritance just because he is their blood relation.

Shi Yan sighed, he smiled: "No harm trying."

Shi Yan stayed in the hall for a while.

After a while, a servant knocked on the door.

"Come in." Shi Yan uttered.

"Master!" As soon as the servant entered, he bowed respectfully.

"What is it?" He asked.

The servant immediately replied: "All of the tribe's people, Lady Yana wishes for you to go to the entrance to accept them yourself."

"Also, Lady Yana said that you have to think of ways yourself, and to remember what you've done today."

Shi Yan nodded his head: "Okay, you may leave."

"Yes!" The servant replied and immediately left.

Shi Yan pondered for a bit before: "To act mysterious? Silent?"

He pondered some more, basically, they want to act like those cool people from the novel, cold, aloof, yet mysterious and charming in their own way.

After a while, he couldn't help but chuckle.

It's basically him getting a second identity.

He also thought that having a second identity will help him in the other world as well.

Truthfully, after he received all of the knowledge from his ancestors, he felt that he could do it alone.

But he had already read tons of stories like this. Those main characters had everything but resources.

Basically, if he's a main character, doesn't that mean that his story is just about to end? Everything seemed to be given to him without trouble.

"It's... it's like Im either a villain that has it all and is waiting for the main character to kill me... or a side character meant to make the main character stronger, either from challenges or learning..."

Shi Yan couldn't help but sigh with a chuckle.

He then started walking to the entrance of his small city mansion.

After fifteen minutes, he arrived at the entrance.

There, he saw people dressed in dirty robes, thirty-two people are leading them.

There are children, women, old people, as well as able-bodied men.

Yet, all of them seemed to have been suffering from malnutrition.

The first thing that entered Shi Yan's mind is 'I want to help them'

But immediately, the words of Nara came into his mind.

Helping is good, but you need to have them offer something back in return. 'An exchange.'

Seeing Shi Yan stay silent there, the thirty-two leaders went forward: "We're our tribe's representatives."

Shi Yan looked at them without saying anything more.

"I-in total, we have around 8,200 people that are able to work." A leader uttered, his hands slightly shaking from both fear and hunger.

"S-some of our people are still u-unable t-to work, but they are on t-their way here, they are just weakened, but after having eaten food, t-they are slowly gaining t-their strength."

"Other than 8,200 people currently present that's able to work, there are 12,000 more slowly making their way h-here."

The first thing that went into his mind was them being treated as slaves till the end of their lives, but at the very least, they'll be able to eat, right?

Shi Yan was contemplating what to do.

Yana and Garun are just smiling behind him, the servants are lined up inside the gates of the mansion.

But as He was contemplating, something happened.

"UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! UWAAAAAAA!"

"WAAAAAAAAA!"

The sound of a baby crying was heard, and the mother of that child immediately had darkened expression. People around her couldn't help but have the same complexion as well.

To make a ruckus like that in front of a great being.

They couldn't even breathe properly for fear of angering this person if they breathed too loud.

Yet now, a baby suddenly cried.

Truthfully, this woman was meant to be with the latter group, but due to her husband being sick, she needed to represent her family, and with no one to take care of her child, she had to go here with him.

As they all were shaking from fear, Shi Yan started to move.

Thud.

With how silent the area was.

Shi Yans' body clad in metal armor is really loud, every step he took sounded sending shivers down everybody's spine.

Thud~ Thud~ Thud~

He started walking to that baby, causing the mother of that child to feel really scared.

Soon, when Shi Yan was about to approach her, she couldn't help but accept her baby and his fate.

She looked lovingly at her child, begging for the baby's forgiveness.

Everyone from the tribe felt pity for her, they had forced her to stay behind, but she forced herself to go.

Now, it's her own fault for doing so.

Everyone gave way to where Shi Yan was heading.

Thud~ Shi Yan stopped in front of the mother and child.

The mother closed her eyes accepting their fate.

"What's the name of the child?" Shi Yan asked. His voice sounded rather heavy, it was the effect of the dragon helm.

Hearing this, the mother's eyes suddenly opened, and looked at Shi Yan straight in his eyes.

Seeing this, everyone felt anxious, it's an unwritten rule of their society, to never look at death in its eyes!

Still, the mother replied: "H-he's.... his name is Arfol, my baby is just six months old."

Shi Yan nodded his head, he then removed his armored gloves leaving the leather gloves behind.

Slowly, he touched the baby's hand.

The baby immediately quieted down as he looked at Shi Yan in confusion.

Shi Yan smiled, at least, he knows what to do.

"Set a temporary resting place for everyone to rest and to receive the following group."

"Everyone able to help, cook some porridge first." He then looked at the mother: "Your name?"

"I-I am Suya."

"Suya will be leading the cooking group, she will need one two hundred people to aid her, the rest will construct a temporary resting abode for everyone two hundred meters away from the mansion."

"That is all for now."

Hearing this, the tribesmen were shocked.

Seeing Shi Yan going back to the mansion, they couldn't help but still look at him in confusion.

Weren't they going to slave their entire life for food?

Yana smiled while Garun laughed: "You heard the master, all of you will prepare first, we need you all up to your feet in two days."

As he spoke, he went back to the mansion.

As experienced people, they knew what Shi Yan is planning.

Hearing Garun's words, all of the tribe's people felt shocked for a while, then, their minds cleared up, and soon tears flowed from their eyes.

All of them bowed gratefully toward where Shi Yan had vanished.

They didn't utter any words, but deep within their heart, they engraved something.

Gratitude, a gratitude heavier than their own life.
