Chapter 3
Successful…transaction?

How was that possible?

The crowd that was mocking Fred to the limit just moments before was stunned when they heard the beep of a successful transaction from the POS machine.

Had there been a mistake?

That was a hundred thousand dollars!

Despite their glamorous dressage, the revered Mr. Graham was the only one here who could afford a hundred-thousand-dollar meal.

What about the rest of them?

They were just riding on his coattails!

Yet, Fred had actually paid a few hundred thousand directly using that transit card. How was this possible?

“The waiter must be in on it!”

One of the people who regained their composure first scoffed disdainfully, “He’s a well-known good-for-nothing who leeches off his wife’s family. Do you guys actually believe he managed to spend a hundred thousand dollars?”

When that was said, the crowd finally heaved a sigh of relief.

Right!

They would rather their lives be forfeited than lose to this Fred who they have always looked down on!

Hence, someone immediately laughed sarcastically and said, “So it seems! What did I just say? Fred, you certainly are interesting. You’re putting on a show for us! You didn’t even miss out on bringing a trustee with you for this act of yours!”

“Have you no shame? You can’t keep up this level of pretense but you still decided to oversell yourself!”

“That's not true! He probably got the money from the Cadmans.”

The crowd made a show of surrounding the waiter and asked, “Young man, Fred roped you into this, didn’t he? How much did you get? Three hundred? Five?”

“I… I…”

Bombarded with such questions, the waiter instantly started stuttering, unable to answer. This made the crown even more certain that Fred had hired help.

Valerie’s face had gone completely red then as she trembled with fury.

The disgrace!

It was this feeling of disgrace again!

Once again, this piece of trash, this good-for-nothing man before her, her nominal husband Fred, was the one who brought it upon her!

Even Valerie just wanted to scream at Fred now—why would he not just die?

“Haha, enough enough!”

Soon, Mr. Graham pressed his hands down slowly and got everyone quiet down. He just looked at Fred and said with a smile, “Mr. Hoffman, you could have just said you didn’t want to pay the bill. Why make a fool of yourself like this? How about this? You hold onto this room card. Take Miss Cadman up, clean up the room, and then have her prepare herself. After that, you can just watch over the door for Miss Cadman and me. You won’t have to foot the bill tomorrow morning, and I will also give you a million dollars on top of that. What say you?”

The crowd fell into silence, the sound being of the room card falling before Fred.

“Oh, dear! My apologies, my hand slipped! Mr. Hoffman, you don’t mind picking it up yourself, right?”

He had obviously dropped the card in front of Fred on purpose. Despite that, Mr. Graham deliberately smiled and said, “Also, I forgot to inform you, Mr. Hoffman, the elevators in this hotel seem to be out of service today. You can use the stairs to make your way up!”

There was a snigger.

Looking at the room card on the ground and the wheelchair-bound man before them, the eyes of the crowd filled once again with derision and mockery.

Asking Fred to take the stairs when he is a disabled man?

How was he going to move?

Did he expect Fred to bend down and pick up the card before crawling his way up the stairs?

As for the elevator being out of service, that was impossible! They had taken the elevator up when they arrived just now.

More importantly, Mr. Graham had requested Fred clean the room himself and then send his own wife to Mr. Graham’s bed. He even asked him to watch the door for the night.

He was practically asking Fred to make himself a cuckold!

Was there anything more humiliating than this?

As the saying goes, the flames of a bustle are fanned even when one merely spectates. Someone immediately laughed and said, “Fred, this is a lucrative deal! Let your wife sleep with Mr. Graham for one night. You won’t have to pay anything, and you will also get a million dollars. Is there any easier way to get money than this?”

“Exactly! Hurry up, Fred. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Mr. Graham is willing to throw his money away, so why don't you hurry up and pick up the room card?”

“Why aren’t you picking it up yet? Fred, could it be that you want more? You can negotiate with Mr. Graham then! Let your wife spend a few more nights with him. Who knows? You might just earn several million!”

The jeering was incessant.

However, Fred’s expression was calm like he heard none of them. He just slowly looked toward Valerie.

That was right.

His wife-in-name, Valerie Cadman!

There was the rare bitter smile visible on Fred’s face.

It was because he saw no dissuasion on Valerie’s face. On the contrary, there was a hint of urgency and anticipation!

Just for a measly million?

“M-manager?”

The sudden exclamation made everyone look over to the side.

They all saw the hotel manager stepping in through the door. He looked extremely docile, however.

Next to the manager stood a dignified man with an extraordinary aura. The hotel manager had led him right in front of the crowd.

“Stellar Walker, M-Mr. Walker!!”

Mr. Graham, who had just been needling Fred, was immediately stunned when he saw the man. He hurriedly ditched Fred and trotted over.

As for the others, especially Valerie, their eyes instantly lit up.

The man before them was Stellar Walker, someone who made Mr. Graham grovel and elicited a respectful address from him. He was the inspector sent by the actual owner of this hotel, Fantastic Corporation.

Mr. Graham already had the crowd kneeling and licking his feet. A big shot like Stellar Walker was not someone they were even qualified to meet on usual days!

However, with such an important figure before them, they did not dare to be forward due to the difference in their statuses. Mr. Graham was the only one who went forward in a subservient manner and asked, “Mr. Walker, w-why didn’t you mention anything about your arrival? I’ve already prepared the hotel—”

Whoosh!

Mr. Graham was only halfway through his sentence when Stellar Walker strode past him as if he was nothing but air. Mr. Graham’s hands hung midair awkwardly.

Mr. Walker did not stop.

Stellar went straight to the waiter and stared at the black card in his hand. The black card that everyone had been ridiculing as a transit card before.

“Who used this card just now?”

“I did…”

The waiter was obviously not the most mentally sturdy person. He had not been able to answer when the crowd and Mr. Graham questioned him before. Now met with Stellar Walker who was a god-knows-how-much-larger character than Mr. Graham, he ended up stuttering for while.

Fortunately, he did not forget the use of his eyes. He immediately looked to the back, at Fred in his wheelchair, forgotten by the rest.

Following his gaze, Stellar looked over and his entire body shook instantly. The pupils shrunk and his initially dignified aura disappeared.

He looked at the silent man with a sharp face in the wheelchair tensely.

It…it was him!!!

It really was him!!!
